Million Dead and his solo stuff is all frigging cool, Pretty damn different from each other but still awesome ^_^
This song is so beautiful. An awesome mix of tragedy and upbeat melody. a cool video, also must agree the studio version is better but it's still cool.

It's amazing to me just how little talent is acceptable to so many people. I understand that with art the "excellence" is in the eye/ear of the beholder, but come on. This guy is a rank amateur--the kind of thing you see/hear at open mic nights in some crappy bar. Don't you people have standards? You throw around terms like "genius." It's a joke. Genius? This guy isn't even passable, let alone genius. I know little kids just beginning to play and sing who are better than this dweeb.
Yes, coolpirateclub. I should have been more specific. As a musician, I tend not to hone in on lyrical value if the music doesn't do anything for me. But after the tune grabs me I do usually begin to appreciate the words. I'm not going to say out of hand that he doesn't write good lyrics. That wouldn't be fair.
Don't get me wrong. Just because I can't appreciate a song simply for lyrical value doesn't mean no one else should. I just can't listen to a song that doesn't have much tune value and say to myself, "well, the lyrics are good." That's probably why rap and hip hop don't do it for me--they're all words and rhythm. The only melody involved is usually sampled from someone else's hard work hahaha. Seriously, though, I don't want to put this guy down anymore, if folks like him they like him.
Let them say what they want to say, music is music, lyrics are lyrics i mean if someone said something about a certain piece of music that you thought was genius was far from passable per say you would disagree. It obviously means something to them if they think its genius like saying they appreciate their music.
Personally, I think everyones gonna have to agree to disagree on this matter. It all boils down to your musical tastes and preferences. Everyone just shut the fuck up, revel in the fact we've finally got something good coming out of the UK, and listen.
At times he can be funny, at times mournful, and he is certainly a brilliant critic of politcs and society. His lyrics in his solo stuff are a little more straightforward than those in million dead, but no less excellent. Music taste may be subjective, but to judge someone's talent isn't - talent is a fact, you couldn't for example see a world class concert pianist and judge them as lacking talent.
rickcee: have you actually listened to anything else by Frank Turner? He is far from lacking in talent. Whilst his guitar parts in this song are simple, in other songs they're actually quite complex compared to your average folk musician. I think his lyrics are brilliant, not as typically poetic as someone like Jeremy Enigk, but in their own way very charming.
Jeez, Rodders...at the risk of complicating things with comments that actually have various elements to address, let me just keep it simple. This guy blows.
Rickcee, by any chance do you masturbate more than 4 times in one day? I'm judging buy all the utter spunk coming from your keyboard that you must do. Also talent is fact, which is a band and then 3 solo albums. Whether he is good or not is purely opinion. Talent in this case can not be argued, do you not find it strange how everyone disagrees with you? Also nice rocks man upload some "talent" next time x
Poats...it takes more letters to misspell the word "actually" when you add an additional "c", so it can't be that you're lazy. I think you're just a phony. I think you're trying to sound cool. You may be the hip hop generation, but you're definitely not hip hop hahahaha.
Fuck you rickee. Please, feel free to post a cover of this song on youtube. If it's better than the original, i'l give you a full pardon, but the fact of the matter is, you're insulting a man thats pouring his heart out over a guitar. Who gives a fuck if he isn't shredding like Dimebag, or playing the blues like BB. Music is fucking music man. It brings the world together, but it's faggots like you that don't deserve ears.
I'm not criticizing his right to express himself. I'm speaking as a musician, and the guy has no talent. I have no problem with him doing what he does. Do a cover of this song? Why would anyone bother? It's okay for him to sing it--it's his song. But why would anyone bother to learn a crappy song of someone else's?
He has a HELL of alot more talent than most people in this world. Sure, there are people with more talent too, but if you don't LIKE him, that doesn't mean he doesn't have talent, because he does. Its just your personal preference, which you should probably keep to yourself.
a genius? hahahahahahahahahaha. This guy is a major shitbreath, ummm, speaking as a musician. I won't say he has no talent. That's too indefinite. Let me be clearer: he has ZERO talent.
Poats...I understand it but it just doesn't do it for me musically. What can I say? Music is a subjective thing. By the way, it ain't "posh" to be able to spell. Are you like Ali G or someffing? LOL
That doesn't mean anything--made it somewhere is good enough? Puhleeze. Tiny Tim made it somewhere too. So did Lawrence Welk. Are you telling me that they had talent just because they made it somewhere? By the way...how do you know where I play and who knows my work? You don't, asshole. Besides, your spelling is so ghetto (fake ghetto) that I could barely understand your drivel. Why don't you try actual English?
Poats...what does being an American have to do with it? Music is a universal language. I've been a musician all my life and this guy sucks dick. Talent is talent...it crosses all national boundaries. I love lots of European and British musicians, but this turkey isn't one of them. Why? Because he has no talent.

I'm sorry your friend died, but man, you are absolutely talentless, as is your pal, Jonah. Doesn't anyone know how to play anymore? You strum like a child learning to play. And the lyrics--how trite. Puhleeze. People actually pay to see/hear you? What a joke.
please don't bother writing a comment like that & then going on to put 'puhleeze'. have you actually ever heard a human pronounce 'please' as 'puh-leeze'? because if you have then you know just as much as i do it makes you sound like an arrogant bastard that should just stop talking.
I'll tell you what...if you don't like my spelling of "puhleeze" because it makes me sound arrogant, let me say now that if thinking this guy has nothing makes me arrogant, then I'm arrogant. This guy is a major zero.
RIP Lex! I never know you but thanks to Frank it feels like I do. Live fast, die real!
