I am pretty sure the inspiration for this was actually a tune from the 1940's called "But Beautiful." Look up "but beatutiful - jazz flugelhorn." Same instrument so you can REALLY tell the similarities.
Bob Hoskins didn't play Eddie Valiant in this film - he WAS Eddie Valiant. This is my favourite cue in the film - gives off a sort of feeling of reminiscence and mild sadness, but also brings back positive as well as negative memories at the same time.
I was listening to "Dear Kathy" by Benny Golson this morning, and I swear that song must have been the inspiration for "Valiant and Valiant." Very somber, drown-it-away-in-a-bottle kind of feel to it. Good stuff.
One of the greatest movies ever made. I love this film so much. I always get chills while listening to this theme when Eddie looks at the pictures. It says a lot about his character with no dialogue needed
Nobody in the world could have played Eddie Valiant like Bob Hoskins. I'm sooo happy that this film was made when it was. If someone tried this film nowawdays, they'd of put cg characters in it instead of good old fashioned cartoons and tried to hire some untalented hollywood stud to play Eddie instead of a real actor and it would have been completely horrible.
@lilmissmusic2012 Robert Zemeckis said they were working on a script for a sequel and the the cartoons would be drawn regularly with a few computer shading and coloring effects, and Bob Hoskins said he would reprise his role as Eddie.
@SoulStarStudios Seriously? I loved the original. If they can get everybody who did the cartoon voices like the ones for Roger and Jessica to be in it too I'm totally watching that!! 8D
If you see a video called Roger Rabbit 2 screen test with CGI, don't worry, that was an experiment that Disney turned down. Last November, one of the guys working on it said "I couldn't possibly lie or confirm, but if you're a fan, very soon you will be very, very, very happy."
Given the logic of today's moronic, business-oriented film studios, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to cast Justin Bieber as Eddie Valiant. Thank God it wasn't made today. Bob Hoskins freaking nailed the role.
I adore this movie and the soundtrack since i was a kid when i saw this 4 times in theaters at 7, this movie's soundtrack is terrific. This track relaxes me.
For some reason I love that crane shot showcasing 1947 LA as Eddie gets off the back of the streetcar. Its a damn shame LA no longer has the best public transportation system in the world.
This music makes me want to go to those classic days where things were done right. Now? Everything seems to fall apart so easily. Don't make them like they used to.
In my opinion the beginning sounds a lot like "But beautiful", a jazz song by Jimmy Van Heusen... what do you think about it? Here's a clip on youtube: /watch?v=AY53MpFCpVE
If you knew much about jazz, you'd understand that big-band/swing are sub genres of jazz. I figured people were smart enough to realize that I was asking for the specific sub genre by mentioning swing, but I guess I was mistaken and should therefore clarify: what specific type of jazz does this fall under.
I love this song. Does anyone know the specific Genre? It's not quite big band/swing...I'd like to find other songs similar to this. Any artists/suggestions?
the moment when he finds the photo of his brother is heartbreaking, Bob Hopskins was never better. Robert Zemeckis is a genius director for doing this movie!
That was an heart wrenching moment few people can remember from the movie, just that quivering on his lips and the shock in his eyes was and outstanding display of acting.
I like this tune - shows Eddie Valiant's true colours (Despite his rough exterior, as shown in the film, he happens to be a good person subconsciously). Bob Hoskins gave an outstanding performance.
I've loved this score since I first heard it. I've been trying to get the soundtrack but it didn't sell well and nobody makes it. Thanks for this much.
