  • I am pretty sure the inspiration for this was actually a tune from the 1940's called "But Beautiful." Look up "but beatutiful - jazz flugelhorn." Same instrument so you can REALLY tell the similarities.

  • One of my favorite movies ever! This song is beautiful

  • Bob Hoskins didn't play Eddie Valiant in this film - he WAS Eddie Valiant. This is my favourite cue in the film - gives off a sort of feeling of reminiscence and mild sadness, but also brings back positive as well as negative memories at the same time.

  • 1 person misclicked, or will rot in hell.

  • I was listening to "Dear Kathy" by Benny Golson this morning, and I swear that song must have been the inspiration for "Valiant and Valiant." Very somber, drown-it-away-in-a-bottle kind of feel to it. Good stuff.

  • This music makes me wish I was a detective in the 20's. Love that old style music.

  • what was the name of the song with the sax at the beginining of the movie?

  • @kayin72 Yeah, I can't seem to find that one either.

  • One of the greatest movies ever made. I love this film so much. I always get chills while listening to this theme when Eddie looks at the pictures. It says a lot about his character with no dialogue needed

  • I love my brother!

  • Nobody in the world could have played Eddie Valiant like Bob Hoskins. I'm sooo happy that this film was made when it was. If someone tried this film nowawdays, they'd of put cg characters in it instead of good old fashioned cartoons and tried to hire some untalented hollywood stud to play Eddie instead of a real actor and it would have been completely horrible.

  • @lilmissmusic2012 Robert Zemeckis said they were working on a script for a sequel and the the cartoons would be drawn regularly with a few computer shading and coloring effects, and Bob Hoskins said he would reprise his role as Eddie.

  • @SoulStarStudios Seriously? I loved the original. If they can get everybody who did the cartoon voices like the ones for Roger and Jessica to be in it too I'm totally watching that!! 8D

  • @lilmissmusic2012 Yup! Zemeckis has even talked about it 8)

If you see a video called Roger Rabbit 2 screen test with CGI, don't worry, that was an experiment that Disney turned down. Last November, one of the guys working on it said "I couldn't possibly lie or confirm, but if you're a fan, very soon you will be very, very, very happy."

  • @lilmissmusic2012

Given the logic of today's moronic, business-oriented film studios, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to cast Justin Bieber as Eddie Valiant. Thank God it wasn't made today. Bob Hoskins freaking nailed the role.

  • @TheShockMaster Yeah, Bob is the best. ;D

  • Please someone tell me how to play that first song on the tumpet

  • @TheBlueipod2009 what a question. sound it out.

  • this is my fav piece of music from the whole film. very touching and emotional.

  • I adore this movie and the soundtrack since i was a kid when i saw this 4 times in theaters at 7, this movie's soundtrack is terrific. This track relaxes me.

  • For some reason I love that crane shot showcasing 1947 LA as Eddie gets off the back of the streetcar. Its a damn shame LA no longer has the best public transportation system in the world.

  • Am I crazy or this song just sounds exactly like "Pedacinho do Céu" from Waldir Azevedo?

  • @sergiodias22vix-- I do hear a similarity in the chord progression.

  • @sergiodias22vix You're right!

  • @sergiodias22vix I must be deaf because I can barely hear any similarity between the two at all. Only a little in the bass.

  • Found a version of this song on Itunes, but the tempo was too fast, where did you find this version of the song? I have been looking everywhere!!!!

  • Scotch on the rocks...

    AND I MEAN ICE!

  • Who da fuck disliked

  • This music makes me want to go to those classic days where things were done right. Now? Everything seems to fall apart so easily. Don't make them like they used to.

  • Great post.

  • what a beautiful sad song. so nice.

  • YEAAAAHHHHHH !

  • Best song in the movie. Best movie in film history. I always get a little choked up during that scene.

  • this is my favorite piece of any musical score I've ever heard. Alan Silvestri is my favorite film composer <3

  • Beautiful tune. It feels like the hard luck of a bitter detective, who has had his hard times.

  • i miss the sax as heard in the film

  • Poor Eddie. He must really miss his brother. R.I.P. Teddy.

  • Brilliant movie. One of the best films I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of good movies.

  • I'm trying desperately to find sheet music for this :(

Free hopefully. But not just piano, bass, trumpet, strings, the works...

  • the begining sounds like the begining of "i remember clifford too"

i just love that sound....... its peacefull and sad :)

  • I remember doing a song in Jazz band that had a tune very similar to the very beginning of this song.

  • In my opinion the beginning sounds a lot like "But beautiful", a jazz song by Jimmy Van Heusen... what do you think about it? Here's a clip on youtube: /watch?v=AY53MpFCpVE

  • Alan Silvestri does the best scores. I love his stuff.

  • like the real classics, it was great as a kid, but this movie gets better the older I get!

  • this tacks me back. to when I was a kid

  • A toon killed his brother... dropped a piano on his head.

  • "Not just A toon....."

  • can you upload the other soundtracks to the film like "Maroon Cartoon" please...

  • Eddy Vaillant :-)

  • If you knew much about jazz, you'd understand that big-band/swing are sub genres of jazz. I figured people were smart enough to realize that I was asking for the specific sub genre by mentioning swing, but I guess I was mistaken and should therefore clarify: what specific type of jazz does this fall under.

  • I love this song. Does anyone know the specific Genre? It's not quite big band/swing...I'd like to find other songs similar to this. Any artists/suggestions?

  • Ever hear of jazz?

  • the moment when he finds the photo of his brother is heartbreaking, Bob Hopskins was never better. Robert Zemeckis is a genius director for doing this movie!

  • That was an heart wrenching moment few people can remember from the movie, just that quivering on his lips and the shock in his eyes was and outstanding display of acting.

  • i shed a tear, god bless you Alan Silvestri

  • I loved this song when i was a kid reminds me of my grandma good memories

  • a great score!! it's like detective music mixed with cartoon music!!

  • What's this song title? And that at 2:03 too...

Beautiful song, it's real music. One of the best i ever heard.

  • It's called 'Valiant & Valiant' by Alan Silvestri.

  • I'll take the scores for this song. A video of me while playing the piano will be published soon on YouTube.

    THX guy!

  • @sdpadrefan Man this is a great song thanks for posting it. I mean it plays in like there 40's style jazz and is slightly sad yet not too sad.

  • That's my favorite scene in the film. It tells you everything you need to know about Eddie Valiant without a single line of dialogue.

  • @levanyzzuf This scene always make me sad, almost crying...amazing acting by the great Bob Hoskins combined with amazing composition.

  • This is great, do you have any more.

  • 1:10-1:55 : I used to cry A LOT watching this moment, and I still do, even though most of the time, I skip it !

  • brilliant, what is known about this great song?

  • This song is incredible.Very good slideshow from a great movie.

Pix fits perfect to the tune.Sweet video dude.Thx.5*

  • good movie no doubt brings back memories when i was young dude

  • great film

  • beauty

  • The sounds of the rotten luck of a down-and-out Detective.

    Genius.

  • I like this tune - shows Eddie Valiant's true colours (Despite his rough exterior, as shown in the film, he happens to be a good person subconsciously). Bob Hoskins gave an outstanding performance.

  • One of the great overlooked film scores in all of American cinema.

  • Love this score!!!!

Thank you so much for uploading it!!

Been trying to figure out the song the title to this piece for ages..!

  • I've loved this score since I first heard it. I've been trying to get the soundtrack but it didn't sell well and nobody makes it. Thanks for this much.

  • BTW is that a Coronet or a Saxaphone?

  • I would guess it's a trumpet.

  • 0:00-2:03 is the perfect song for a funeral.

  • Always been looking for tis great tune. Thank you for sharing!

  • this song will always remind me of my reminds me grandma as a kid i use to always watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit at her house

she passed away at 63 in 2001 God rest her soul

  • You have my sympathies :)

  • always loved this song as a kid
