It is not the Welsh who clog up Welsh roads! Considering the fact that 76079 is owned by a Welshman it might be wise not to make such stupid comments.
Excellent footage. The crew are only doing what they have to here, the timings are tight to keep out of the way of Arriva's 158's in order to keep steam's nose clean in the eyes of the authorities. This climb out of Tywyn up to the summit is the longest sustained climb of the day on a speedy stretch, but 76079 performs reliably well so this kind of thing is a daily occurence. I was on the footplate crew the following week and that loco is faultless.. bring on Cambrian Steam 2008!
Great video, I thought there was a helicopter overhead on the first clip as the exhaust was very noisy!!! Danzwood in theory with both the car and the train going at the permitted maximum speed you should have been just in front all the way. One or both of you was being a bit naughty going over the speed limit. (Im not critiscising just pointing out the laws of ophysics.)
Off the hook!!! I think i was on it that day! Bloody flying they were, on the max speed of the 4MT often! Great expeience - Its on the coast till the end of August, totally recommended!
cheers for the comment m8, um, around and about 60 mph i think, maybe a little more at times, they were really pushing hard, really difficult to keep up with it on welsh mountain roads! fortunatly we found this long straight national speed limit road near tywyn. perfect! lol
Be nicer with a "manor" on the front

Hope you remembered that the Bailey bridge isn't there any more...
I have a nice memory of being overtaken along the Tonfanau road by a 22xx with a very short freight (one wagon and a brake I think).

Made me laugh.
Indeed it is not there (a shame)
I saw a freight train there once too. 37 + about 6 - 8 various trucks

Shows steam can still flog along in the 21st Century....1968...when was that...There may be a reprise with the price of oil heading to the stars...

Yes that tracking shot is great. The first shot from the roadside could really have done with a tripod as it was a bit bouncy but OK.

That is great! I love the tracking along side the train. How fast we're you having to go to keep up with it?
