I think playing rythm is easier the petit bouche, becasue the neck is narrow and thinner than on the grand bouche. So on the Grand bouche i can use the thumb, but on the petit boucche i need to use barre-chords.
A couple of reasons the Grande Bouche is easier to play.
1. Shorter scale. Big hole is 25.5". The small hole is 26 5/8". The shorter the scale, the closer the frets, the easier small hands can play it.
2. The longer scale guitar requires the string tension to be much higher to tune to 440 hz concert pitch. The tighter the tension, the harder it is to push the strings down to the fretboard.
@macdige It would be a lot harder to play for me, because the neck joins the body at the 12th fret. Now, that might be fine for a rhythm guitarist, but it's a definite no-go for me. Also, if you can't handle the paltry string tension of a petite bouche jazz manouche guitar, don't ever ever ever even think about playing a traditional arch-top jazz-box w/ flatwound 13s.
Very interesting videos, many thanks for taking the time.
