Police use this tactic because they know most people are repeat offenders, they place the bait car in an area that appears to happen the most, they catch the person using the bait car rather than chasing them in a stolen car, bait cars are usaly equipped with shutoff switches kinda like what you see on monster trunks

Entrapment isn't a legal police tactic in most countries, in Australia police can be charged for it. It's legal in some places in the US for some reason, i think its fucked up. so, to solve the overpopulation in prison, they should stop sending the "stupid" criminals to prison? the fact that there are alot of criminals doesnt mean that we should just let crime slide. especially ones as basic as theft crimes. prisons being overcrowded is an issue, but its a FAR seperate issue from the fact that people who commit crimes deserve to be punished.

i would also argue that prison sentances are rarely handed out to first time car thieves without a prior criminal history
