Funky indeed! This is early Sesame Street's means of combining words in unique ways that leave impressions that last many years! Another clip that's Delightful, Dandy, and Deserving of my praise!
It's true gem seriously left with Jim Henson...........sadly Henson isn't even on the label for all his movies and shows anymore........now it's disney. Or Sesame Workshop.
I have never forgotten this...and it was some thirty years ago. There was this sad, haunted feeling that came over me whenever I recalled "Little dolly, go to bed..." with the father's echoing, fading voice, and the doll becoming more and more distant. It was almost as if I were in the process of losing my own, ideal father somehow...the way I imagined that he should have been but never really was, and to then have him taken away from me.
Wow! So you guys too! Thats the reason I searched for it today. As a little boy, it also gave me goosebumps and caused nightmares. The tune & imagery always haunted me. & here some decades later it blows me away to read that it had that same affect on others.
I remember this. It was freaky to watch, but I can't say it gave me nightmares.
There was one particular classic Sesame Street clip that no one has posted yet, that...if someone does post it, THAT one freaks me out. It's a stop-motion animation with two freaks about brushing your teeth.
I am glad to know I am not the only one who was utterly spooked by this ckip as a kid...yet somehow I loved the melody, even if the pics and lyrics gave me the willies.
HOLY SH** BALLS! This scared the BO-JEEEZUS out of me as a little girl. I still have to watch this holding my hand over my eyes and peeking through my fingers.
I also had been singing this song (wrong) to my daughters for years until I saw it here and recalled how it really went. Thanks.

Oh sweet Jesus. This can only be explained by the abuse of hallucinogenic drugs.

This video gave me nightmares as a child. Watching it now as an adult might give me a chance to heal.
