This probably best explains why the shows resorted so much to recycling actors for alien roles (i.e. Vaughn Armstrong) so much. People who can not only handle the prosthetics, but still put in a good performance are rare indeed.

It also gives me a lot of respect for guys like Ron Perlman or the guys who played the orcs in Lord of the Rings.

I read somewhere that Marc Alaimo was rushed to the hospital in full Cardassian makeup after a stage light fell on him. During an earthquake, Shimmerman also went home without removing his makeup and spooked a bunch of people driving along the freeway.

Some dude in full Cardi makeup drove Mr. Shimmerman home. They were in a convertible, if I remember he story correctly, and people were flipping out as they drove past.
