The Yamaha trumped the ZX in MPH which is a better indicator of real world power. The ZX also looks like it has an extended swing arm which definitely got it out of the hole quicker. 2 badass bikes none the less.

The R-1 in the real world (not the pages of a magazine) has the worst stock 1/4 mile times of any of the liter bikes.

@sc63sr20det LOL...I forgot about this thread, I sold that bike 4 months ago. The "slightly" was sarcastic. Thought that was obvious, guess not. The 12 was stock bore but had Webb Cams, was lowered, stretched, strapped, geared, dyno tuned and air shifted. The 8.93 was with the help of a Cold Fusion 40 shot. Like I said, I sold the 12, still have the 9 though. Does the 9 offend you too, do I need to explain how I got it to run 9.60's? Not trying to hurt any feelings here...
This is so true. I have started with ZX-12R 2002 (stolen after 8 months :( ), then BMW R1150R Rockster 2004, Yamaha R1 2007, and now back to ZX-12R 2005. ZX-12R just fun to ride. Would be great if Kawasaki could come up with modern concept of "big blade" with 1200cc engine and all modern toys like ABS and Stability Control...

Now don't get me wrong a great Rider on a 1000 cc bike (crotch rocket) can beat a 12 ,Busa ,and a 14. ZX10's post quicker numbers than the 12,and 14. I think it's more of a better rider and strectch of street thing. I beat a Busa on my boys ZX10 twice at the track but lost after we raced on the highway due to him catching me then passing me. He had enough road to do it. But naturally the 12, 1300,ZX14 's are ment to be faster than the 1000's Top end.
If u want a fast bike that can rape nearly all big CC bikes that goes for bikes like busa's ninjas SHITTY r1s go for a gsxr1000 theyre lighter but can do same top end as a busa and because of the power to rate they can rape a busa easy on acceleration :D

11.3 not bad for an amiture. Hell its not bad compaired to most people. It actually takes talent to get a bike like these into th 9's. people who generally do that race all the time and I bet half of them its part of there main job. Most people will never see 10's on theres without some practice. But once again until we all turn into Valentino Rossi or Russ Collins. I don't think we should worry to much about how fast you can go. Just enjoy the ride.

they started limiting bikes to 300kph or 186mph because France was going to prohibit the sales of these super fast bikes so manufacturers made a gentlemans agreement to keep it at no more than 300kph
that isnt why they governed bikes. the manufacturers did it so that the states would not impose a law that would have them going even slower. they basically took responsibility b4 they needed to.
You are correct but kawasaki did not start governing the 12 till late 2000(2001) so they are still capable of speeds aproaching 200mph. Just wanted to make sure you understood that..

The R1 is only just run in, so I havent had the chance to really wind it out yet!!
As for the ZX12, I took it to 200kph a few times and it did it easy and still had plenty left in it.
Depending on what you want, the ZX12 only needs a sports muffler (and sports air filter to improve air flow), coz the bike is awesome in standard format!!
If you get a ZX12 and really crack open the throttle, choose where you do it coz the bike absolutely launches into warp speed in a matter of seconds!!

The only road car I've seen put a sports bike down was the Bugatti Veyron. Then again, it does cost £880,000 pounds, a thousand times the price of the average super sports. I appreciate cars can be made to be extremely fast, but I don't think it's the norm. I'd definitely disagree with the bikes being easier to control. You have to maintain balance, and power on two wheels, and coordinate all four limbs. With a car, you point it in the direction you want to go, and push down with your foot.
My first time running anything in the quarter was my bike and ran a 10.70 completey stock incept for a slip on...which is pointless without a commander and it was slightly lowered.
Every one talks about the "horsepower" but numbers mean nothing with no rider......the r1 has a lot of trouble staying on the ground to to anyone who has ridden one..there fast but hard to ride.
the r1 pumps out more horsepower than the zx-12r and will dust the zx-12r in a quarter mile, as for weight, the r1 will make the zx-12r look like a little b%tch on the straight aways and especially in turns, the r1 is a lot lighter and nimble than the zx-12r which feels like a bus
i'm not 100% sure on the horse power of the old zx but i'd say the two are equal or the zx might have a small advantage. but its simple for me to see that you don't know to much about bikes. An R-1 will not "dust" a zx-12 in the straight line.. your retarded if you think that.

@sc63sr20det LOL...I forgot about this thread, I sold that bike 4 months ago. The "slightly" was sarcastic. Thought that was obvious, guess not. The 12 was stock bore but had Webb Cams, was lowered, stretched, strapped, geared, dyno tuned and air shifted. The 8.93 was with the help of a Cold Fusion 40 shot. Like I said, I sold the 12, still have the 9 though. Does the 9 offend you too, do I need to explain how I got it to run 9.60's? Not trying to hurt any feelings here...

This is so true. I have started with ZX-12R 2002 (stolen after 8 months :( ), then BMW R1150R Rockster 2004, Yamaha R1 2007, and now back to ZX-12R 2005. ZX-12R just fun to ride. Would be great if Kawasaki could come up with modern concept of "big blade" with 1200cc engine and all modern toys like ABS and Stability Control...

I have watched stack 12 and busas go head ti head and the 12 won a few times. Its an awsome bike, any who says otherwise most likely doesnt know what their talking about. Make a modern 12.... Now don't get me wrong a great Rider on a 1000 cc bike (crotch rocket) can beat a 12 ,Busa ,and a 14. ZX10's post quicker numbers than the 12,and 14. I think it's more of a better rider and strectch of street thing. I beat a Busa on my boys ZX10 twice at the track but lost after we raced on the highway due to him catching me then passing me. He had enough road to do it. But naturally the 12, 1300,ZX14 's are ment to be faster than the 1000's Top end.

It actually takes talent to get a bike like these into th 9's. people who generally do that race all the time and I bet half of them its part of there main job. Most people will never see 10's on theres without some practice. But once again until we all turn into Valentino Rossi or Russ Collins. I don't think we should worry to much about how fast you can go. Just enjoy the ride.

You all just go by your favorite bike. Anyone with a little bit of knowledge will know that a ZX-12R would kill any literbike on a quarter-mile track if the rider has enough skill. Second what were you reading that told you that an R1 has more horsepower than a ZX-12R. You cant be serious. As far as quarter-mile times they are too light to get a good enough launch to ever beat a 12R. They are much too wheelie prone.

I ride a 2005 zx12 and a 2005 zx10.. I like the zx12 for its sheer power at the top end,
you can cruise at 200 kph and still rocket to 300 if you feel like it.. its my lamborgini of bikes, whereas the zx10 is very flighty at high speeds

The ZX12R horsepower / sheer acceleration is seriously mind blowing!!
Add a sports muffler (I had a Yoshimura RS3 cut down a few inches) and the bike sounds absolutely phenomenal!!

The R1 is only just run in, so I havent had the chance to really wind it out yet!!
As for the ZX12, I took it to 200kph a few times and it did it easy and still had plenty left in it.
Depending on what you want, the ZX12 only needs a sports muffler (and sports air filter to improve air flow), coz the bike is awesome in standard format!!
If you get a ZX12 and really crack open the throttle, choose where you do it coz the bike absolutely launches into warp speed in a matter of seconds!!

The only road car I've seen put a sports bike down was the Bugatti Veyron. Then again, it does cost £880,000 pounds, a thousand times the price of the average super sports. I appreciate cars can be made to be extremely fast, but I don't think it's the norm. I'd definitely disagree with the bikes being easier to control. You have to maintain balance, and power on two wheels, and coordinate all four limbs. With a car, you point it in the direction you want to go, and push down with your foot.

First of all... Are you nuts.Or you don't no shit about bikes. it takes a lot for to beat a 12r. And if it's really a 2000 12r it's gonna take hell of a lot more to beat it. Especially if the upgrades are almost the same between the two. Second the times are good. It takes skill to get those bikes in the 9's. Every run they do the'll get better. Great Vid.
