  • Kipkay was way better on make magazine, why isn't he on anymore?

  • Would you need any kind of overcharge protection chip?

  • i have this addition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woot

  • Put kipkay back on make magazine before I beat you guys up

  • No shit

  • KIPKAY KIPKAY KIPKAY. Thumbs up if you want kipkay back

  • keep KIPKAY AWAY ! bring back bre !

  • Could I perhaps do this to an xbox battery ( the one that you put batteries into it)?

  • @skull0302 Brilliant! ^_^

  • All you fucking idiots that keep saying "DURR HERP DERP ISNT IT EASIER TO BUY BATTERIES!?!" Yes it would be. It also would have been easier for einstein and all the great thinkers, educators, and inventors in the world to sit around, jack off, and eat potato chips, like you do. You are a waste of space. Some of us actually like to learn, experiment, and make shit like this.

You dont like it? Go eat more chips - its what your good at..fucking uneducated, lazy mongoloids. I liked this video.

  • oh no they kipnaped him!

  • @thatwhatuwishshesaid I WONT HIM EITHER

  • I lol'd at the "Family Matters" part. Great informative video!

  • kipkay is more easy to understand..this is just boring and confusing!

  • thumbs up if you have that remote controle

  • Bring back Bre Pettis!

  • wat if i live in a cave?

  • Shake much?

  • WTF?! Where the hell is KipKay?

  • I want kip kay ):

  • the iznallah kipkay channel !

  • were is kip and tux the cat

  • @jaquan123ism

    And Domino!

  • While you're at it, you should add in a meter for the battery charge. that would be the only thing I would do different.

  • WHAT! First Bre leaves... now Kip?

  • I love Collin's music :)

  • im going to do this to an xbox360 controller

  • you want kipkay go watch something else duh*

  • Dude, try supercaps instea. NI-MH die faster than you can buy them!

  • hook up wire.. :D

  • Does anybody know if resistors draw power?

  • BreePetis

  • "where is kipkay ?" I'm still asking where is Bree Petis

  • Haha Cool XD

  • where is KIPKAY we want he not that losers

  • This is functional but it looks TERRIBLE! gosh, really no style whatsoever. typical USA.

  • @asutn Thats why you favorited the captain america trailer.... Typical bitch ass hypocrite...

  • @HDiGITTY

at least there is some production design behind it. I love movies btw.

  • Your soldering skills are horrible to be honest

  • Kipkay! Kipkay! Bring him back!

  • The ending made me happy.

  • we want kip kay!

  • If you're using Ni-MH batteries, they will recharge, but they will have a "memory" which means unless you drain them completely before recharging them they will lose a certain percentage of usefulness each time you charge them.

Point being, you'll still need to buy batteries for your remote, you'd just need them less often. There's about $0.67 price difference between the battery types- I'm sure you'll absolve that pretty quickly with this project though.

  • wish you could do that on a ps3 controller.

  • we need these for cell phones

  • Bring back kipkay

  • @mrpandabear13 he has his own channel.( youtube/kipkay)

  • You should lay off the caffine.

  • Where is KipKay ?

  • You should have glued the solar cell to the remote and ran the wires inside the remote, Would be a much neater job.

  • So, what is the charging control for to not overload the batteries???

  • can you use some less boring music

  • use this with a minty boost

  • 95% of the time my remote is stuck between the couch cushions. How the hell is the sun going to reach in there? STUPID!

  • @captwasabi Well.... aren't you supposed to place it in a sunny area? Duuuh!

  • "Dislike" for the "Family Matters" joke.

  • I don't know what made me wanna kill myself more, the guys voice, or the music in the background. You = 7 Kipkay= 100

  • Where the *UCK is Kipkay?!?!

  • you should really work on shorter sentence phrasing

  • ahhhhhhh ur dum. if u leave it in the sun it will wrech it, maybe make a seperate box?

  • Nice video, but the background music is terrible!

  • In my opinion, it's more practical.

  • you know you want to watch family matters!!!

  • Comment removed

  • just for fun, write on the inside of the battery cover when you last changed the batteries. My TV still has the originals after 4 years of use. This solar cell modification is a waste of time and effort (as well as money)

  • As a speaker of the Queens' english, I often have nightmares about the horrors of 'sodering' irons. Please be considerate: if you don't pronounce the L in solder, then at least be careful where you point that thing when it's heated to the temperature of molten lead. Thank-you.

  • thumbs up if u havent changed your remote batteries in over a year

  • Too much trouble when all I have to do is go to the kitchen and grab another pair of AA batteries....really this is a too impractical...lol

  • people kipkay still does his stuff stop complaining

    he is fine

  • Is it possible to overcharge batteries with a solar cell?

  • i dont get why people talk crap about this. who cares he was bored you can be bored too...

to makemagazine try using solar panels to charge rechargeable batteries in the remote if you can so you can charge batteries and use the remote ^w^

you see i recommend this because im bored too.... i just cant afford to buy all the stuff to do these kind of things

  • Where's KipKay? :(

  • his hands are SOOOOOOOOOO shaky

  • so make your remote look stupid and have to spend the money i will use in about 10 years on a remote when i buy new tv that gives me batteries with it by time they run out??

  • kipkay has gone to make an electric toilet brush lol!!

  • Its cool but I don't think you need that big of a Solar cell, If you have a Calculator Solar Cell it should work, I charge my Batteries every 1-2 Years, The Solar Cell should be able to charge it in 2 years...I Hope:P

  • this guy sucks!!! kipkay did these projects so much better!!!

  • GET KIPKAY BACK!!!!!!!!!

  • so stupid!! all this work for nothing

  • looks a little ghetto with the electric tape

  • KIPKAY WHERE THE HEL* ARE YOU!!! >:(

  • get us kipkay!! he's much cooler ! (no hurting feelings its a great video but...)

  • get us kipkay!! he's much cooler ! (no hurting feelings i hope...)

  • kipkay why did you left us :(

  • WOW... you are really bad at soldering aren't you?

  • wouldn’t it be cool if it could recharge with heat energy... then all the time the remote is in my hand, it would be recharging (that’s more like it !)

  • Jesus... what a mess.

  • i dont need a solar TV remote, my batteries can last for a year. thanks to enegizer :bd

  • logitech should do this with their remotes..

lcd screen, touch capabilities, an actual processor and memory chip :P

Using solar, i would only have to swap batteries once every 2 years...

  • @bmw2go11 just curious, how long do the batteries on those things last?

  • @TheGuyInUrCloset on average i swap rechargeable batteries every 10 months

the remote sucks up and kills batteries if it's in use or not, sadly.

  • @bmw2go11 wow, thats still not bad, and if you are using rechargable batteries, they usually dont hold a charge quite as long, so I would say it would only use new batteries every 12mo , not bad considering all the stuff those remotes do. I've always wanted one but they are too expensive for me.. :(

  • Bring KipKay Back!

  • dur, can I use a duck ?

  • My remote from my tube tv from 2004 still has its original no name batteries

  • can I use energizer rechargeable batteries?

  • *removes makemagazine sub due to kipkay nolonger producing it*

    YOU SUCK !

  • @LoGDamo YOU SUCK TOO!

  • i pretty sure making this costs more than the 2 batterys yo need like every 2 years...

  • why you gotta hate on Family Matters? That show was the shit.

  • Pretty nifty idea and in truth over the long haul it will be cost effective BUT I'm not real sure how practical it really is.

  • you shake like hell!!

  • Won't this kill the battery instead of charging it? It would be charged lots of times unnecessarily and not fully.

  • we want kip kay!

  • you should have done this for a ps3 or xbox controller, that would have been a good idea

  • did kipkay die?

  • @MadMacheart yeah he has just been posting his recent videos from heaven .......hopefully

  • No he left MakeMagazine look for KipKay on youtube! he got his own channel on facebook ! @MadMacheart

  • Another project that is sompletely out of sense! Does Make Team, get bored since last few years? You have nothing else to do? There are many better things you can make video about!

  • you know you suck at soldering?

  • @TheGrim666 As long as it works who gives a crap?

  • great a project thats actuallu helpful

and for all the idiots saying just buy batteries THATS NOT THE POINT those batteries end up in land fills...

  • Where's KipKay?

  • sucks if u have no window...

  • Please bring Kipkay back :(

  • wouldn't it be so much easier to just go to the dollar store and pick up some batteries? and their cheaper than the total cost of this project too.

  • that stupid music....

  • Please fire this guy or at least don't ever let him do any other video.

  • Why would you change away from Family Matters?

  • @ihatecolereynolds I don't remember that show...... who was on it?

  • Respond to this video...I don't remember that show.... who was on it?

  • OR...You could buy a Logitech Harmony.

  • can you make me a solar powered flashlight?

  • @TheWillsono but you use flash lights at night...

  • Comment removed

  • @bigcrowfly the answer is:it"s cool, and it (in my opinion,i eat this stuff up) is fun to make.i like it, but kip kay does it way better.

  • What voltage is the solar panel rated at? It would need to be at least 1.5 volts to charge up one cell anProxy-Connection: keep-alive

    Cache-Control: max-age=0

20since it is in series it would need 3

  • Where is kip

  • the problem with this is that the heat from the sun will damage the remote !

  • Oh wait. If your remote dies, you can walk five feet to TUUUURN the dial on the tv.

(Or hit the up and down buttons). Btw, I'm not an oldie, I'm 16.

  • who doesnt like erkle?

  • Hmmm, the idea is nice, but the execution is mediocre at best... The wires could have easily been hidden inside for one...

  • Unsubscribed makemagazine, subscribed Kipkay-Channel ->DONE :D

  • @DonaldCollis Lighten up, Francis.

Instead of sounding like chicken little, why not give us a link to a simple voltage regulator circuit we could solder together?

  • @freesk8 If it is so important to you you find it and post it. But don't nail this guy to the cross for just trying to help some kid spending money on a kit just so they can seriously hurt themselves. Not everyone has a electronics degree and someone should point this flaw out so that it potentially might keep someone from pain that could be avoided.

  • @DonaldCollis We double checked with the author of this project and the solar cell is too small to cause harm. Don't use a bigger solar panel or try to charge a Wii remote or any LiPo batteries without proper regulation. Keep in mind that you do any projects at your own risk.

  • @makemagazine way to stick it to him lol

  • @DonaldCollis I'd like to add, if you are dumb enough to modify a device without doing sufficient research on what is happening, nobody is liable for damages but yourself.

the solar cell is a 3V cell. These type of batteries can be charged higher than 1.5 volts each without catching fire, it just reduces the life.

A regulator is only nessesary if you are charging in high current applications where overcharging can be way out of the range of the batteries.

  • That was pretty good, actually.

  • You suck... wheres kipkay

  • great project for winter i mean now we got a ton of sun

  • @badboykilroy Subscribe to KipKay, problem solved!

  • Last time I forgot my remote in the sun it melted...cheap crap xD

  • You: I hate this show but i cant turn it of

    Random person: why?

    You: Its night

    Random person: ???

  • Thumbs up if you are glad kipkays gone

  • @ryantheleach nobody likes you

  • To be honest, kipkay does a better job...

  • this guys has Parkinson.

  • i change battery every 2 year..... i think i don't need this

  • Are we ever gonna see KipKay again, he's what makes this worth watching...

  • i guess collin's midi board came in handy when making the music

  • I'll give you a D for effort and a B for a cool idea.

  • 2:06 No Heat shrink :'(

  • Now try a solar-charging cell phone

  • no point the tv remote battery barley ever runs out.......

  • @loliver231 So true

  • @loliver231 but it is soooooo annying when it does xD

  • @loliver231 ... until it does runs out.

  • @loliver231 I think this is just a general example. You could do something similar to this to a lot of other battery-run things.

  • @loliver231 would love to try that on my wirelesskeyboard, never run out of battery ingame would be awesome

  • umm i use the dead batteries for the remote because they work why is this needed?

  • man, you need to lay off on the alcohol, your hands are shaking like shit :D

  • I really like this project.... I'd like to try it on my wii-motes!

Though like an earlier poster said, what is to stop the batteries over charging? Or is the current so low that it effectively just trickle charges the cells (which i think you can do for a long time quite safely)

  • I was just thinking why anyone would want to do this. A remote's batteries last a really long time so who cares? And If you leave it in the sun too long you could make the batteries rupture.

  • where is weekend project with kipkay ?!?!?!?

  • KIPKAY?
