@MrMooseman485 Because the general public are tasteless robots who like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Kanye West, and the like and completely LACK taste in true art.
@dicebagdaryl umm I love Kanye West, he is one of the most accessible and creative artists today. I also love Verdi's operas. I consider myself part of the "general" public. Maybe the real problem is that there are too many elitist snobs out there who know what "true" art is supposed to be like. Maybe the "general" public associates opera and classical music with prudish, snobs who look down on said "general" public, thus making it a negative association.
@NoirOrchestre Ghiaurov is considered to be the greatest opera bass ever lived along with Siepi. I personally don't like him. My personal limit. He might not be the darkest voice, but the man was undoubdetly a bass: he sang very naturally and openly. I agree that Fiesco is a role where you might want to hear more vocal heaviness and dark sounds: it is usually associated with basso profondo repertoire.
Outstanding production. As a singer myself I appreciate Ghiaurov's amazing talent but the staging also captivated me; such amazing looking scenery and stone-looking wooden steps.
@34fgsfgsdtu48w7qtaqt And now that he and Siepi are gone, who will sing these wonderful parts? God must be happy: he can hear two among the greatest bass voices singing every day.
Listening to a voice like this ... transporting

I will never understand why videos such as this one only have 25,000 some views while 'Friday' has close to 90 million.

@TheClevelandSteamer I couldn't have said it better myself; some people are just too close minded to understand and appreciate modern artists...

Realmente Lo
admiro por todo concepto.

For me he's more a Boccanegra than a Fiesco...

Ghiaurov em seus melhores momentos. A nota mais grave (fá sustenido) é emitida com o mesmo volume das demais.

I'm working on learning it myself, but I'm a baritone so it's a little low for me =)
raigekimaru 1 year ago
@raigekimaru Cool beans but why are you learning a bass aria when you're a baritone? I'm sure you'll do fine with singing that low F sharp.

@Geronimo1913
is that F2sharp of F1sharp?

Well, this is how a bass shall sound.
Where are the great basses in our days? There are only great Wagner basses and the Italian repertoire is raped by bass-baritones.
