Another thing is comedians tend to use their first names in their shows - I Love Lucy, Fran Drescher, Louis C.K., Drew Carey, Tim Allen, and Will Smith.

And, speaking as a writer who works with other writers, plugging in your name and the names of other writers for smaller roles is pretty common.

@efsq I don't think he does. Rainn just talked about his preference for who he wanted the character to be. He mentions the Dwight Manifesto, as it were, given to him by Greg Daniels, to set the foundation for who Dwight should be, and he said he always went back to that.

Besides, Dwight went off in a different direction than Gareth, and I'm sure Rainn had a lot to do with that.
