  • i just ran into this video because i wanted to know more about e-speaking, and i must say i admit that there's too much of a hype around stuff like in this case siri whereas other programs can do the exact same thing and barely get that recognition. i think your video was helpful and now i'm sure i'll get e-speaking :) i am sorta shocked by the little amount of views on the video because it's so good, such a shame.

  • Adriod apps called "assistant" same thing like siri and it also talk back to you

  • I do not suscribe to the whole 'apple worship' thing & would never dream of queuing overnight (as happened here in Scotland) to buy a pretty average phone! I have, found a problem with voice recog' softwear in the past, in that, If one has a distinct/strong accent / dialect there is a Lot of problems in getting the softwear to understand, in my case Glaswegian (Im from Glasgow). This caused abandonment of the softwear quickly in the end do not use them, anyway bye for now Zen - :o)

  • iPhone is slowly going downhill and have been for some time. (It is the same product in a little fancier case with a little fancier software capabilities) - But all in all, the same product. This Siri-thing = Old news. It's been around and just because the majority of the population aren't aware of it - doesn't mean it's a "hype" or new. It's old... It's been around. Apple are just trying to keep being on their 'high' - Problem is, they're running out of amazing "omg"-ideas.

  • most PCs already have voice recognition in them under --start> control panel> ease of access> Speech Recognition Options> Start Speech Recognition

  • @theremixphilly While that is true, what you can do with it is limited. With something like Vlingo ( for smart phones ) or E-speaking ( Pc ), you can say " search google maps for whatever, and it does. This is without a lot of extra ( scroll, select, page down, etc ) that make it tedious. Check your basic list of commands and you will find quickly that it is very limited unlike those that allow you to speak normally.

  • @ZenArcher this is true- and siri was around before iphone 4- I just think it's redic that apple is trying to cash in on a program that they know they didn't make but aren't really tying to let too many people know that it was around long ago and it's not their invention. When iphone comes out with a new feature they like people to think it was all their idea. not so much this time- so the iphone 4s is just a better camera. WOW- why are they so special again? I don't get it.

  • As usual, always informative.

  • That is all true, as I have played around with voice recognition software for years. However, I am enjoying using Siri, as she is writing this comment from my voice dictation.

  • Your Facebook link is for Shay Carl, lol.

  • @DrJohnBecker OMG! haha! I do like his stuff.. but jees! Thanks for letting me know. I am correcting that now.

  • Even Youtube has a voice transcribe option. (click CC) It's funny on this vid!

The best voice recognition and speaking app I've ever seen is Google Translate on the Android.. Say a phrase and it'll translate it and speak it back in a different language. Since the early ipods I don't really understand the whole Apple "thing" (and I've worked closely with Apple supporting their tech). They hold back their latest technology and build planned obsolescence into current models so you have to upgrade

  • @TheHolySpirit - I have to ask "WHY?". You can get Siri, but with an Upgraded contract, which translates to extra cost of not only your service, but added cost of the new phone. Or Get Vlingo that does the Same thing on your Current Smart Phone, even if NOT an Iphone on your Current plan. That's certainly more cost effective for the user. Seems to me it's all about the Benjamens.

  • @ZenArcher Not being from the US, I had to figure out what "The Benjamens" were. I think I got it! ;D And you'd be right.. Hence Apple has more cash reserves than the US government! I wish I was making that up!!!

  • Don't forget, Windows 7 has extremely good Voice Recognition. as does XBOX thru Kinect. .. You can't find the controller while watching netflicks? Ya just say "Xbox, rewind".. or pause or anything else.. And google has the voice for search mic button now.. I think they've just incorporated voice into translator so you can say something and have it played back in another language, and vica versa. Yeah, voice recognition as a selling point is for fools who haven't been paying attention

  • Yeah nothing new but thats apple, selling old stuff as new.

  • yeah..nothing new. but the rest was all garbage.. apple make kinda useful. that's it.

  • @hitpool500 Vlingo looks just as impressive IMHO. It does the same thing as Siri. Was available over a year ago, and let's be honest. People haven't used it enough yet to know if it isn't the same "garbage". Time will tell eh?
