  • 4.10s are not a good idea for highway driving, though. you get about 12 mpg at 75 mph? runnin almost 3k rpm sucks gas like hell i'm sure

  • wow all the way to three those gears are to much i might consider 3:73 i don't want to waste to much gas thanks for making this video man it helped.

  • Hey LowPro.. probably already answered this but.. is your GT an Auto? Just trying to figure out which gears to get in mine. 4.10's look really fun before I get it tuned. What do you think?

  • lol my 3.0 ranger is at 3000 going 70 with 410s

  • Awesome vid man. Helped me a lot with the decision.

  • Thanks for showing this! I have an '02 GT and I'm on the fence about 3.73 or 4.10.. but after seeing this, I can handle 2.5k @ 70mph.. It'll just give me incentive to stay honest and cruise 65. haha. Great vid. Thanks again bro.

  • @Colemode Oh, and did you get your speedo re calibrated prior to taking this video?

  • AMERICANXMETAL: and anyone listening to him needs to get this straight...if you are drag racing and or just want low end power then 4.10's...manual coupe....and 4.30...manual convert

  • i have an 89 with 4:10s and an auto and i love it still havent got the spedo fixed though so still havent figured out where 60 is yet

  • for anyone wondering about 4.10's or 3.73, basically, 3.73's are more considered for manuals, and 4.10s are more considered for autos.

  • gay

  • kiss gas goodbye

  • Auto or 5 speed?

  • What gear are you in?

  • any one who uses there mustang as a daley driver or goes any were and is considering a gear change should get 3.73 gears becouse there beter on gas but if you dont care a bout gas migage you should get the 410 gears

  • i understood the point of that vid just fine thanks man ive been debating 3.73s or 4.10s and about to buy and this helped thank you

  • thanks for posting.

  • Do people not know that you're just showing people what there car would idle at going down the road with 4.10s? Jesus..

  • Hahaha, that's the truth man.

  • @stangalltheway ya man? Nice vid! check out HELLBOUNDAPPAREL . COM

  • Nice Video. I have an 01 auto GT. idk if i should get the 4:10's help me out?

  • 4.10's and an auto go together pretty well. If you plan on super/turbocharging the car down the road, 4.10's would be a little much. They would be ok with nitrous depending on how big a shot. Too big and it will be too much gear. If you cam the car, 4.10's will help out big time.

  • naww just soem gidde up power. lol. S/c or T/c is kinda pricey. thanks tho! ;)

  • @Mustang2160 truth is 4.10's on your auto would reduce gas mileage down quite a bit but the power gain would be pretty sick as far as him saying too much for a turbo or supercharger he is an idiot and has nothing to do with that you would actually see better gains with 4.10's so go for it just remember it will decrease gas mileage. I actually installed a new tranny and 4.10 gears on a 2002 gt last week and i took it out to make sure the tranny was gunna hold up and holy hell first gear is crazy.

  • @5secret yeah thanks man. lol i went with the 373's about two months ago.

  • lmao people are dumb!

  • you idiots he's not making a video of him getting on it. he's just showing where the rpm is at that speed with his 4.10's... Thanks, Lowprogt

  • LMAO, finally, someone who gets the purpose of the video. No problem, hopefully it was useful or at least interesting to watch.

  • seriously, that looks really slow. you cant be gunning it. way to slow . wtf was that?

  • It was me not gunning it, just SLOWLY accelerating to show the RPM's at cruising speed with a 5 speed and 4.10's. It's all in the description...

  • i hope your not on it... cuz i have 3:73s in my auto 96 GT and from 60-80 when i get on it is quick as shit.

  • Clearly not on it. Just showing the RPM's at speed.

  • yeah is that an auto or 5 speed im guessing five speed

  • 5 speed.

  • is your car a auto or stick..if so what gear are you in? im considering putting 410s in my 01 auto gt

  • 5 speed, 5th gear. 4.10's in an auto are perfect.

  • do you need to change the speedo gear when you change the gears?

  • For a pre 1999 car, yes. For a 1999 or newer the speedometer is electric, and doesn't use a traditional speedometer gear.

You can use a "SpeedCal", or a flash tuner (SCT, Diablosport, Sniper) to electronically adjust it.

  • no...my friend has a 96 gt, and hes got 3.73's in it..and its an electric speedometer. and hes got a superchips tune on it. and when you tune it...it asks what gears you got in there so it adjust the speedo when he puts the tune on it

  • Can you helpme please??

i got a 87 gt stang(msd 6al,bbk cai,bbk shorties headers,h-pipe,40 flowmasters,75 wet shot,70mm trhotle body, throtle body spacer, automatic overdrive). i want to change my gears because my car is to slow in aceleration so 4.10 or 3.73 are better set for my car, I just wanted be quick and faster and have better time in 1/4 mile... thanks

  • I would suggest 3.73's for your car. The 5.0 has alot of low end tourqe and doesn't need a steeper gear as much as a 4.6 Mustang does. Also, with the nitrous the 3.73's will give you more top end before you run out of gear, compared to the 4.10's. I would also suggest getting a higher stall tourqe converter since your car is an automatic, and maybe a shift kit as well. Those, combined with the gears will make a big difference.

  • OK.....THANKS

  • Gut IT! lol

    Those things shed weight fast!

  • I've got a 98' GT w/ 4.10's and the torque and low gear combo makes it difficult to resist roasting the tires at intersections and redlights. haha

  • yo what if i got a cold air intake with the 4.10's how would that get with gas?

  • So in 5th gear at about 78-80 your at 3k rpm? That sucks for gas mileage, but nice for acceleration. What does 3rd top out at now? (Mine stock gears is about 90-95).

I may get this setup but the gas much be a pincher on the highway.

  • Yep, thats about the right RPM.

Gas mileage was the same on a PURELY highway trip, 25mpg cruising about 60-80mph varying.

Aside from that it seems to have lost about 2-3mpg overall depending on how and where im driving.

I want to say third gear ends at 70-something MPH, I can't remember 100% right now.

The gears are real fun. If you are worried about gas mileage, 3.73's and even 3.90's are still GREAT choices.

  • Hey thanks for the quick response dude!

Yea i am looking into gears eventually depending on when i get a supercharger from Kenne Bell. May not be for a little while, damn expensive unit... lol

  • No problem man, lol. I know what it's like to wait on someone that takes forever to answer a message, haha.

Yeah you really can't go wrong with a KB. If you go that route, I suggest you stick to 3.73's as it will make power RIGHT off of idle and won't need a steep gear to get in the power band.

Anything steeper than that will just cause traction issues. 3.73's will also be better if you run at the track, you may run out of gears with 4.10's if your trap speed is high enough.

  • Good information to know. Thanks for that. I added ya as a friend check your profile.

  • No problem.

    Thanks man, just added.

  • yes but you can shift down now and take off

  • is this a 5 speed or auto? was it worth it?

  • Its a 5 speed.

The gears are definatly worth it. Makes a big difference getting off the line and running through the gears.

  • ya but if your cruising your running a higher rpm right?

  • I have an 02 GT and let me tell ya. With the stock gears, 5th gear is practically useless. Ford geared that bitch pretty tall to get an impressive HWY MPG number I have no aspirations of doing 150mph so I'll be doing a 4.10swap soon

  • Yeah, that is true. There really is no need to downshift to 4th anymore on the highway unless you are REALLY trying to get around someone. My gas mileage didn't suffer too bad with the gears though, as long as you keep your foot off the gas.

Even with 4.10's you can still clip 150mph, not that you need to though, lol.

  • Yeah, that is correct. With stock gears 60mph wasn't even 2k RPM. It was nice, but the performance is great with the gears and 5th gear is actually useful around town now.
