@Tangimana53 This driver likes to take it easy, he's generally never in a rush. I'm presently not a garbo at the moment :(. I've heard of blokes averaging 300 bins per hour, something on the lines of that.
@tharealsteven o lol well maby not to u but its not completely square its corners are angled lol im trying to find some way to ship a bin from australia its been a goal of mine for many uyears
@Myavrick, This area has no dog owners in the street. I know of many other streets where heaps of dogs go full on berserk when any truck enters their street.
So in theory it would be as quicker with the rear loader and two men . One of the other draw backs is on the driver , as he has to concentrate not only on going forward but also on distance to the bin as well as getting out if anything is in his way . its a good idea , but like you said it would have its limitations
@kawa7900, In some cases it is more advantageous to get some guys on a rear loader to some areas, but in most cases, better off getting an auto side loader to do all of it.
It sort of defeats the purpose , as im assuming its to do away with man power . and having the driver jump in and out doesnt make sense . Yeh it would be great to have a road where you could go up and down un hinderd but in the real world of garbage that doesnt happen .
@kawa7900, In some aspects yea it does. It depends on what type of area, inner city areas for example, drivers who work there have to keep jumping in and out the cabin of their truck to move bins away from trees & cars etc
Yeah, no comparison! Its interesting on the Heil videos of the Durapak Python, the Python arm is very smooth, however on the models sold, the arm is terrible, even though they are on new trucks, it shakes around terribly.
What makes the difference to the Aussie arms and the American arms is the mechanisms used to lift the arm. In America the most popular lift to use is a hydraulic ram which is slow and heavy while over in Australia all arms now use hydraulic actuators and rotars. The MJ arms use 2 actuators while the Superior Pak's us a single rotar, the bennefit of the two actuators is that it increases the lift capacity. The rotars and actuators as you can see on this arm are very small and quite light.
I really dunno where ya got the idea of lazy from.. 1 Of the reasons why they use these types of trucks is cuz their more safer, faster and efficient. The only time they use a rear loader is to do the laneways and public bins
im a big liar but seriously my uncle is a garbo and true they are manufactured or whatever by city wide my collection happened today and my cousin got the bin u told me about he says thanks
heey man, CityWide doesnt actually use hybrids, but there pretty close anyway. There actually a Volvo FE Chassis, with a 'Euro 5' engine which decontaminates all the toxins in the diesel before letting it out into the air. Volvo dont have any Hybrids in Australia yet, only a few test models in Europe :)
I am very glad that we don't have hybrids over here, I don't believe that they are any good or suited to our conditions. For garbage trucks you need ruthless torque and diesel engines provide that with less parts and things to go wrong.
Yeah, the ACCO is pretty loud compared to other chassis', but by far the best, they have such a distinctive sound to them and everyone knows that that noise is the garbage truck! But when it comes to arm speeds, nothing matches the ACCO, Australian Built is the best!!
do u mean the 140litre Sulo Series 2 bin at 3:02?, becuz the reason he shaked it cuz he possibly thought that sumthing like a pizza box could get jammed in it, but it cant happen becuz of its design. As for the 140 litre OTTO bin at the end of the street, then yea, sum thing like a pizza box would definately get jammed,it used to happen all the time wen i had that kinda bin

One thing I notice is the lack of barking dogs. Maybe this neighborhood doesn't have dogs or the Dog Whisper show is working !

wonder what would happen if the bins were up tight together or there were cars parked so you couldent get access with the arm ?.

@kawa7900, simply jump the cabin of the truck and move the bins into a more accessible area.

damn thats faster then most heils curbtenders mcneilus's amreps & labries in the us
badboykarlos 2 years ago
Ah yea, the MacDonald Johnston's are pretty reliable
tharealsteven 2 years ago
Its probably because there are less moving parts and the MacDonald Johnston arm is smaller in size and therefore lighter thatn the American arms.

i live in Manningham council and they have volvo hybrids they work good as i went in one cause my uncle is a garbo

No doubt, their awsum as. Technically, Manningham Council doesn't do the service themselves, a company known as CityWide does it.

These bins are smaller than a 60 gallon. A 240L is similar in size to a 60 gallon.
macdonaldjohnstonfan 3 years ago
a 32 gallon cart is a 120litre mgb
tharealsteven 3 years ago
Yeah, i know, but it is smaller than your average American bin.
