If you've ever had a shoulder injury like that (which I have) you'd know that even underhanding the ball is basically impossible. Shoulder function is shot and it's so painful that even if he'd tried, there's no way the ball would have made it all the way from the mound to the catcher.
My favorite part of this movie. I just find the whole One More part hysterical. Love how he announces from the dugout that he is taking him out. Just go the mound and get the ball.
