check out the original by Doucet. Is Mastro Hamelin happy? Even though endowed with technical genius, as a common ailment virtually all classical pianists completely lack the groove of the great jazzers,
He conquered it all In the "classical" realm, I bet you: He would find joy in blending sheet music with the free "by ear" cocktail chandelier piano world of Liberace, Alba Rosa Castro, Carmen Cavallaro, Eddy Duchin, and jazz of Garner, Fats Waller, Donald Lambert, James P. Johnson, etc...
@pianomike1 Well, whatever, it's a reciprocal thing. Waller, Tatum, Peterson, Johnson, none of them were very profound classical musicians either. Nothing to be surprised at here.
hamelin is a fantastic pianist and i really enjoy this performance...however....i feel it misses the charm and "swing" that Doucet puts in this piece in his own recording. but again....love Hamelin!

@pianomike1 How would he play this differently if he had "The groove of the great jazzers"?
