Charging devastators out of a position of strength without drawing away enemy fire first with the tactical marines?!?! That is against the Codex Astartes!
@ruarck it gives them a 3+ armor save (Power Armor) xD im such a warhammer 40k nerd. in the tabletop game the armor was one of the best armors. In this game its because no armor can really stop an orc axe. The saws are called chainswords and the goblin things are orcs
They've got armors thick like armor of tanks, and they getting killed by axes? I've thought that Space Marines are super soldiers capable of taking all these orks with one or two men...
@lihkan You have to remember that most stories about Space Marines are from imperial POVs. In terms of the game itself an Orc is a very terrible melee foe to face and no one really can take an ork propelled ax in Warhammer short of the tougher people in the setting.
While their armor is powerful, Orks are gigantic and powerful killing machines who can and do rip apart anything they face.

If Ork is comparable to space marine in combat efficiency, so the Imperium is fucked, because orks have almost infinite numbers, and space marines are quite few. And why in "Space Marine" Titus can take armies of orks by himself? Thats what Space Marines should be, almost immortal warmongers with technologicall edge, that orks will counter with numbers
@lihkan Because most Space Marines while POWERFUL warriors can quite easily rip most things a new ass hole, they still can be killed. Orks excel at killing and in this video I think these are ork Nobs, not Ork boyz.
Nobs are tougher and are better at fighting than boyz.
Boyz make up most of the Orks you face in the Dawn of War games, and is a fact that we should be thankful for. Titus is also a Captain so he is VERY experienced and powerful compared to most. Same as the Force Commander in DOW2

This game (with soulstorm and dark crusade support) has better skrimish/campaign/multiplayer than Dawn of war 2 games and newer.I dont like just making troops.I like making buildings, not like having just 1 base...If you miss the old multiplayer in the newer DoW games please rate up.
Games Workshop commissioned Blizzard to make the original warhammer video game, however something happened between them, and GW pulled out, leaving Blizzard with a half finished game. So it's more of direct influence then inspiration.
Why are there so many people saying that Warhammer 40,000 rips off everything? I mean come on, Warhammer 40,000 has been around for about 25 years, and there they are saying that Dawn of War rips off Starcraft and Space Marine rips off Gears of War. Warhammer 40,000 came out way before Starcraft and especially Gears.

why did they leave there entrenched position? the captain basically led them to there deaths from that trench-line position along with the dreadnought they easily could have held off several more waves until reinforcements arrived

@theodora2345 I will recommend you, in addition to novels, the Core Rule Book (3/4 are background) and the Codeces (army books) of the tabletop game. It seems you're not interested in the rules, but the rest its pure lore and they represent the canon (above the novels) of this universe and they contein history, tales, images (art and beautiful minis alike) that sure you'll enjoy. Best regards.
I would recommend the blood ravens omnibous first, as that covers the games. The its up to you really, theres lots of racers to follow, but space marines are by far the most written about, imperial guard being second. A good place to start would be the horus heresy series.
@theodora2345 I'm the same way, played the table game a few times as a kid, but too time consuming and takes up too much space & brain power. Novels are great, get the Horus Heresy stuff, read them in order. They're not exactly written in order but it follows a timeline as the heresy took place over like, 50 years I think. Temporal vaguries of the warp you know...

@theodora2345 Helsreach was amazing and Im working on the DoW omnibus which is the three DoW novels in one book. As far as the tabletop game goes see if theres a hobby/game shop in your area and just stop in. Watch a game and talk with people. Gosh i wish there were more online first person multiplayers that allowed you to make so many different movements and hand to hand combat, and stuff like this to where it's hand to hand mixed with guns, and maybe even a just hand to hand game, with swords etc etc, lol, ughhhhhhhhhhhh, i want more, lol. More variety, ooo and how about map randomization where no 2 maps are alike, bla bla blaaaaaaaaaaaa, lolz.

@thedora2345 Hell yeah the horus heresy series is amazing and have you tried the eisenhorn and ravanor trilogys? Btw I did the opposite as you I got into models first then books and than the game XD, the models are fun too. And yeah wtf why no bases? I am an extreme RTS guy with out it the game seems just that bit hollow, although luckily my key skill was MICRO not MACRO.

Lol, as awesome as this vid is, there are many flaws:
1. As a squad of bolter marines, i can see no concievable situation where it would be a good idea to charge a full squad of boyz rather than maintaining cover. That sergeant pretty much lead his guys to their death.
2. According to the vid, only one SM made it through a vehicle explosion. Really? Thats real bad luck.
3. Only one ork with a shoota fired. Where was the rest of his squad? If about 10 orks had fired, he should be dead.
@cyran204 1. But they have a heavy bolter guy still! And a Dreadnought until it too charged. Surely it would be best to hold out until the re-enforcements arrived?
2. That's still really bad for SM.
3. Orks care little about wasting ammo. Also, there should be more left. What happened to the burna guy? Are we left to assume that he died? If he was in combat, that would be awesome.
@Smiffy496 1. The space marines are all about honour, they aren't the sort of army that would just hide behind cover shooting, they would take the enemy face to face.
2. They were heavily outnumbered, even the space marines couldn't overcome those odds.
3. The point of the battle was to leave it to your imagination, he could have been killed by a space marine, the dreadnought, or the leader was killed before he got close enough.
You make some good points, but they can only fit so much on.
@Smiffy496 you know, just for the hell of it, I would like to remind you that orks cannot hit the broadside of a barn if they tried. Even if 10 were firing at you, they would have a hard time making shots land. As for running out of cover...well...

@BOnEhEAdD Agreed. Although Heinlein's work has been a great stepping stone for sci-fi franchises for decades, it definitely wasn't the only inspiration nor would I think it can be proven that he was the progenitor of the space marine concept.
@DifunctedReble proven... u cant prove anything really. But starCraft is pretty much the same thing as Sarship Troopers (and its supposed to be) and WH40K is that applied on Warhammer world. My point was that people should probably think of this all more as alot of material from the same franchise, that way they enjoy everything.
why is it that in every wh40k cinematic, any space marine without a helmet has a bullet or two lodged in his forehead? i know it makes sense and everything, not having a helmet and all, but the artists must really like drawing space marines like that

1st time I saw this vid It was so cool(many years ago). Now that I read up more on warhammer40k lore... this vid sucks. No way in hell such few orks(by ork standards that's few) could beat those squads of space marines from the blood angels... much less the dreadnaught present. Dawn of war 2's trailer did the space marines more justice than this trailer.

@theodora2345 I will recommend you, in addition to novels, the Core Rule Book (3/4 are background) and the Codeces (army books) of the tabletop game. It seems you're not interested in the rules, but the rest its pure lore and they represent the canon (above the novels) of this universe and they contein history, tales, images (art and beautiful minis alike) that sure you'll enjoy. I would recommend the blood ravens omnibous first, as that covers the games. The its up to you really, theres lots of racers to follow, but space marines are by far the most written about, imperial guard being second. A good place to start would be the horus heresy series.

@theodora2345 I'm the same way, played the table game a few times as a kid, but too time consuming and takes up too much space & brain power. Novels are great, get the Horus Heresy stuff, read them in order. They're not exactly written in order but it follows a timeline as the heresy took place over like, 50 years I think. Temporal vaguries of the warp you know...

Though, I found it funny how Relic actually got Drop Pods right in this opening scene, and then switched to the inaccurate "slamming-into-the-ground" drop pods.

Difference between the space marines of WH40k and the marines of Starcraft;
Starcraft - They fight because they have to.
WH40k - They fight because they WANT to. That's self motivation where morale counts in battle.
Still, both games are awesome. You gotta admit, the Terrans have a wider range of units which makes it all a lot fun to play with too.

@theodora2345 Must read 40k novels: #1 The Bleeding Chalice from the Soul Drinkers trilogy which is about an excommunicated Chapter of Marines that still believe in the Emperor even though the Imperium hates them. Has perspectives from Astartes, Guard, Chaos, Inquisition and Sororitas. #2 Hammer of Daemons which is about a Grey Knight imprisoned on a daemon world dedicated to Khorne. #3 Dead Sun Black Sky, Ultramarines and Iron Warriors and warfare on an epic scale. Gosh i wish there were more online first person multiplayers that allowed you to make so many different movements and hand to hand combat, and stuff like this to where it's hand to hand mixed with guns, and maybe even a just hand to hand game, with swords etc etc, lol, ughhhhhhhhhhhh, i want more, lol. @thedora2345 Hell yeah the horus heresy series is amazing and have you tried the eisenhorn and ravanor trilogys? Btw I did the opposite as you I got into models first then books and than the game XD, the models are fun too. And yeah wtf why no bases? I am an extreme RTS guy with out it the game seems just that bit hollow, although luckily my key skill was MICRO not MACRO.

Lol, as awesome as this vid is, there are many flaws:
1. As a squad of bolter marines, i can see no concievable situation where it would be a good idea to charge a full squad of boyz rather than maintaining cover. That sergeant pretty much lead his guys to their death.
2. According to the vid, only one SM made it through a vehicle explosion. Really? Thats real bad luck.
3. Only one ork with a shoota fired. Where was the rest of his squad? If about 10 orks had fired, he should be dead.

@Smiffy496 1. The point was to gain ground, and since they repeled the first ork attack the logical thing to do is mount a counter attack.
2. The point was most of them have already been killed so the few reaining died in the explosion leaving one.
3. If so many orks with guns fired at a single target, it would waste ammo, and alot of them weree killed during the battle befor hand.

@cyran204 1. But they have a heavy bolter guy still! And a Dreadnought until it too charged. Surely it would be best to hold out until the re-enforcements arrived?
2. That's still really bad for SM.
3. Orks care little about wasting ammo. Also, there should be more left. What happened to the burna guy? Are we left to assume that he died? If he was in combat, that would be awesome.

@Smiffy496 1. The space marines are all about honour, they aren't the sort of army that would just hide behind cover shooting, they would take the enemy face to face.
2. They were heavily outnumbered, even the space marines couldn't overcome those odds.
3. The point of the battle was to leave it to your imagination, he could have been killed by a space marine, the dreadnought, or the leader was killed before he got close enough.
You make some good points, but they can only fit so much on.

@BOnEhEAdD Agreed. Although Heinlein's work has been a great stepping stone for sci-fi franchises for decades, it definitely wasn't the only inspiration nor would I think it can be proven that he was the progenitor of the space marine concept.

1st time I saw this vid It was so cool(many years ago). Now that I read up more on warhammer40k lore... this vid sucks. No way in hell such few orks(by ork standards that's few) could beat those squads of space marines from the blood angels... much less the dreadnaught present. Dawn of war 2's trailer did the space marines more justice than this trailer.
