Hi I want to buy a loop pedal, and I am doubting between rc3 and rc30. I am not a good musician and not very technical;-) though I'd like to use the pedal for street performances with, voice & guitar and sounds from my computer. I won't be able to use electricity, so all machines should be on battery. I am seduced to buy the rc 30 cause seems to have more variety possibilities and more depth. But as an amateur is the rc30 not too complicated? What other machine I need to complete the set?xhelena
@ProjectFabel Both are great pedals. I'm usually split on which would be best for a beginner. But since you want to do guitar and mic, I'd recommend the RC-30 because it has an XLR mic input as well as a guitar input.
If everything needs to be on batteries, you'll need an amp. Roland has several battery powered amps. First, I'd recommend the KC-110 or the AC-33 for best sound quality. Cheaper choices would be the MICRO-CUBE-RX. If you want power and clarity, look at the more expensive BA-330.
Hey dude ,does it possible (in the rc-3 version)to make a loop with a clean sound (in the clean channel of the amplifier) ,and then switch to an overdriven sound (with the gain),without that having an effect to the previous clean loop? Sorry for my bad english i'm french ^^
@Armincast This has to do with the order of effects. If the distortion pedal is placed before the RC, then you can record a clean loop, then play over the top of it with distortion by kicking on the distortion pedal. If the distortion pedal was after the RC, then everything (live playing and loop recording) would be distorted. Make sense?
@Armincast I would put the Loop pedal through the Effects Loop and it should by pass the distortion. Search 'boss rc3 robchappers'. First vid. Go to about 3:05 and he explains it. There ya have it!
THANX DUDE!! Very helpful video, straight to the point.
Can you also tell me if the RC30 has more than about ten beats to choose??
I own an RC2 and was helping a friend with his RC30 today but only noticed about 10 beats to choose from. The RC2 has about 30 beats, surely the RC30 has at least the same number of beats to choose from??
Dude, this changes EVERYTHING. Thanks! I have been very frustrated by the difficulty in live use b/c of that order. Do you have any other RC-3 videos with other ideas for use?
To my (and a lot of other players) horror the RC-3x series has latency when switching phrases: Just enough to completely throw off timing. This completely ruins any plan you might have to create different patches for song sections..
Afterwards Boss admit the error but state that this is not a "phrase change function", but a "song change feature" They've basically removed phrasing altogether, and now call it "song switching". Crap. Long story short. Stick with older RC's or digitech.
@BriansSecretDoor When you pull the plug out of the output jack, the power turns off. This is a built-in function of the pedal since there's no dedicated ON/OFF switch.
@Depthy2020 A lot of the features are shared between the two units. It's easier to show both in one video rather than make two separate videos of the exact same feature.
Can you set the tempo of the beats/loop with a bpm? One thing I hated about the rc20 was didn't know the exact tempo by numbers it was just tap tempo or knob that increase speed but it didn't tell you the bpms. Does the RC-30 or RC-3 show the bpm of the tempo?
Thanks a lot for that i was stuck with that dub after record.... and couldn't get to play right away.... Now it works as i wanted and i have to thank you.... In fact i don't understand why they sell it that way..... i didn't read the whole manual, but i think that should explained on the 1st line of the box.... It gives a lot of confusion and headache to figure that out by yourself.... Again, thanks a lot !!! ;)
That's awesome you are a hero, sir! I was stuck on this and infuriated! I must admit to only skimming the manual, then putting it back in its box and buying a JamMan. I did ask Boss the question about how to avoid overdub mode, but I was angry with the RC30 so bought straight away. At least I can back to back them and keep my favourite (however I under stand of power is removed it will revert to overdub getting in the way again
@hydorah Thanks, I'm glad this video helped you out so much!
However, the last part of your comment is incorrect. It will not revert to the original setting if power is removed. It will keep the new record order setting until you change it back.
I'm in a small choir singing group type deal, the only guitarist. We do alotta stuff where it's just me playing and us singing, I'd like to do layers so I could something besides chords. Would you recommend the RC 3 or 30?
@MarkDally No. The RC-2 's play order is fixed and can't be changed. This is a new feature on the RC-3 and RC-30. (The RC-50 always had the ability to change play order.)
Hi there! I own the Boss Rc-2 loop pedal and I use it for my live performances all the time, I play a spanish acoustic rock instrumental style. I want to know if it is possible for example: to record a live loop chord progression and improvise over that and then switch over to another saved phrase chord progression in a different key on the fly and improv over that? and maybe switch back and forth? Thanks in advance!
@S1ay3R007 You can buy a Boss FS-5U switching pedal which will change the loop to the next one in series (1 - 11 on the Boss RC-2) and when it reaches loop eleven it switches next to loop one. Look up loop station mods on You Tube, where some people fit a switch into the loop station with the same function.
hi ive just been experimenting with flamenco on the rc 30 and it does work with that looper. don't know about rc2 though. you can record percussion or a chord progression on one track then switch to a different track to lay down the second progression.. then improvise over each on the fly. flamenco seems perfectly designed for looping.. it works in rythmic cycles . the more i use this machine the more i like it. live looping is a
i have an important question concerning this device!, can you switch the current Loop by using the pedals?? I read in a forum that you can press right pedal and hold to switch to second synced track, (I mean the second track, with that loop station you have the advantage to use 2 Loops simultaneously, so switching to the other track for turning it off (I maybe have recorded a bassline there) would be very useful. I know you can press track 1&2 buttons, but for that you have to go on your knees
Hi just a question
When the machine is in playback mode can you play over your first track without recording : just for fun or practise before you actually record

@MarkDally 10 beats in the 4/4 time sig. Another 10 in the 3/4 time sig. The RC-3 and RC-30 are the same in this regard.
