This was the first period drama that I'd watched at the tender age of 13, from then on I've become a period drama addict, reading them, watching them...everything. This has to be one of the best, a tragic love story that makes me cry each time. And of course, Ralph also makes it that little bit more special, a very unique actor!

This is a great movie, but it's better to watch it without having to much expectations when making a comparison to the novel, because they certainly took some liberties in the making of the film adaption. jeje I think a few people don´t like Heatcliff because he´s not he "good prince who save the girl" that is how the things suposed to be, but I think Heatcliff is better because he´s cvomplicated, and passioned and more real than the normal good guy.

In the other hand I think that Finnes is a good Heatcliff for two reasons:

-the scene when he cursed Cathy

-The scene when he break in to the linton´s house and cries with the cathy´s dead body in his arms.

Everybody should check out the less known early seventies adaptation of Wuthering Heights starring Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff. I liked that version better than the Laurance Olivier one. I haven't actually watched this version though. But demure Ralph Fiennes as rough and ready Heathcliff and a French actress as Yorkshire lass Cathy, I don't think so! But if I get the chance I'll watch this version too, see if it's any good.

some men understand heathcliff because they have a bit of his character inside.

i also believe that most women seek for a bit of "heathcliff" in men

I know the books a 'classic' but it was difficult to understand. The bronte sisters were all melodramatic, which yes, when used properly does result in a magnificant story. But i found it trecherous to get through. Jane Eyre was much smoother. Cathy was a cantakerous cow that meddled with heathcliffe. Bloody women. And thats coming from one.

A contorted, twisted love story, surprising when you think that Emily Bronte lived the secluded life of a nun and her times were ones where sex wasn't mentioned. Was she so sensuous herself so to have imagined such a heated plot? I supposed she knew what the reactions to her book would be. Now she is celebrated and her love story smacks of extremely elegant and inexplicit, seeing the dour realism of our times.
