  • Schtick.

    Just Big 'Ol Schtick

  • The REAL Tonight Show... You have to pity the generation that associates "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.

  • I saw this when it aired. It wasn't that funny then. It isn't that funny now.

Anyone putting down the young people shouldn't. They don't know who these men are, so they have no point of reference. Why in the world should it be funny to an 18 year old?

Even when this aired, Jack Benny and George Burns were "has-beens" in the entertainment industry.

  • @Rich8951 so was jerry lewis (a has-been)

  • @ben6killer

Yes, you make a good point.

  • @Rich8951 thats why its mind-bogglingly GREAT!

  • @Rich8951 i only know jerry and johnny. i'm 19 and i found it funny. idk maybe i'm an old soul

  • I remember getting a record (and still have it) of this very show, I love that someone had saved this wonderful bit of history. It's just too bad that some people out there that don't know classic comedy is, thinks this is being mean. First, if Johnny did not like Jerry, he would not have had him on the show. 2nd, back in the day, with roasts and jabs to each other, that is what they did. All in fun, all with the up most respect.

  • @yogertlvr the rest of this episode has been declared "lost". you say you have it?? really?? c'mon lets see it then

  • @chuckcolson I have the audio track to this only not a video. I suppose I could try to convert it into mp3 and then make a video with it. I'll see what I can do ... its such a shame that alot of TV history is lost because of either no one ever though about trying to save the origanal or at least a clean copy.

  • @yogertlvr thats a swell idea! i'll murder someone to hear the rest of this episode, its the best i've seen!

here in my smelly hometown of Melborn, Australia i was lucky to meet a bootlegger who had a 1975 episode with Tony Curtis. i'll load it in before the year is out. messy boocoo!

  • @yogertlvr Mr Yogert, do you have the rest of this 90-minnit program on an LP? would you like to trade a copy for a Tonite video taped 10/3/75?

  • @chuckcolson sorry but i do not have this record any more, I thought i did, but about a week ago I decided to go through my record collection, and could not find it. I am guessing cause of the many moves that i have had over the years, that it was lost in the moves. However, if you do an Ebay search for the Johnny Carson 10th anniversary Record.

  • @yogertlvr the 10th Anniversary LP was of a roast thrown for JC in Las Vegas which was not televised. The last 40 minutes of THIS show is "lost". The Carson Group recently deleted the first 40 minutes off this site, so I guess theres no reason to assume the last 40 minutes are missing. The Group dosen't think these episodes are "hip" therefore no-one should see them ever. People with half a brain know better

  • @chuckcolson Im not sure what the lp was, it was a 2 record set with the smothers brothers on it. and others .

I checked ebay and it is their at the time couple days ago ,..

  • These gentlemen are so adorable!!! Very funny and classy from the old days.

  • even when their serious they arte funny.

  • Love what's said at 3:30!

  • Weird seventies' set. Those set designers must have been high, this looks like it was filmed in Johnnie's backyard. That carpet looks like freakin' astroturf.

  • Telegrams were the "emails" of 1972.

  • The only person still alive is Jerry Lewis at the age of 85.

  • This was the day when stars were stars. Todays stars are a bunch of egomanics.

  • I love Jerry Lewis!!

  • Well, I tell ya, these guys "earned" their respect over many years. You rappers, low-lifes, and trailer park trash think you are born with it. You have to earn respect before you can be "disrespected". It's the same no matter who you are.

  • @saganhill I miss every single one of these guys.

  • @saganhill U tell em ..I LOVE Jerry-

  • yeah jew homour kimonoui

  • Those were the days, I thought it was funny. LOL..... Thanks for sharing

  • you are an ass if you don't appreciate one of the greatest comedians.

  • antilolishhota, you are an ass if you appreciate one of the greatest comedians and also a great man who has devoted 60 years to a cause, what have you done?Except sit here and cristize someone who has great talent, something I see you don't have.

That is why you are jeolous of Jerry Lewis, I happened to be a great fan of his, he made me laugh, people don't laugh anymore. Because there nobody funny like Jerry Lewis anymore.

  • Thia is called H-U-M-O-R. not "dissing" which is a made up ghetto word of the streets, you schmucks.

  • It's called ROASTING

  • jerry is just annoying...not reeally that funny why bring him on with the the other greats

  • @arlichar11 They're all Jews except for Ed and Johnny....

  • @Valkonnen So what?

  • @searcherboy Oh nothing.....LOL

  • @Valkonnen yea i just noticed that! lol

  • I remember this show, Johnny's 10th anniversary. He had all the greats on like Jack Benny, George Burns and Tony Clifton.

  • @zoggy2 I was there Tony Clifton? thats a joke. ha ha ha!

  • Johnny dissed him good. Nobody likes you he says. Ouch!!! Probably true though.

  • @TheBigFag47

looks like you and Jerry have something in common. The only difference is he has kids that are physically disabled. you're a kid that's mentally disabled.

  • @TheBigFag47

U choking me out? That i'd like to see but then again ur just a little punk who can't back up his words so ul excuse me if I consider ur threats a complete joke. I call u mentally challenged cuz only the mentally challenged are delusional enough to think they can beat me in a fight. Fantasize about winning fights all u want but one day ur gonna say the wrong thing to the wrong person and the reality of ur stupidity will be punished by the reality of somebody's foot in ur ass.

  • @TheBigFag47

don't talk about what's gonna happen after you're gone. Just be gone.

  • But Jerry has gotten a nasty demeanor the older he gets, even back then he was rude to people and especially his fans.I idolized him until I heard him yell at one of his telethons, grab the money from that old bag up there, and no he was not joking.

  • @Dawn1959 indeed Jerry has got to be one of the most overrated celebrites of all time. he's a sick man and his fans fail to see the light that he is an ass. unfunny untalented and annoying

  • George, Jack, Joey, Johnny, Jerry ...and Ed.

I'll take that gigantic foam Jerry dissed but leave the mossy pile & jungle set.

  • Absolutely looove his sarcastic face after he first compliments the studio :D

  • Joey Bishop was a no talent hack...

  • @broadjumper1 what the hells amatter wiht you? Joeys hilarious n even if you dont like him have a little respect huh?

  • @biden1 What's the hell's the matter with ME? What the hell's the matter with YOU?

Sorry, but Joey ain't funny, never was.

  • Terrific! Thanks for posting

  • Odd that George is sitting by himself, while four people have to share the other couch.

  • @stargate121 That's because George Burns had a habit of passing gas when one least expected it. The others were very aware of that..

  • Is there a part 2 to this?

  • THE dumb generation of today low IQ. low grades in school .lack of a clue in historic classic T.V. GO eat your Rap crap like kimonui said.

  • @leftfootlouie if you spend your time on youtube comment sections you will really interact with the ballsy, disrespectful, worst part of any generation; people tend to abandon themselves and get lost in some online gangster image since this is all anonymous. Don't waste your time getting mad here, visit your nearest university which likely has 10,000 to 20,000 or more students (lots of kids learning). Technically people know more today than ever before (standing on the shoulders of giants).

  • at 1:46, why does Jack Benny break George Burn's cigar? Did Jack hate George?

  • Lewis never released that film he talks about.

  • Comment removed

  • A WHOLE lotta talent on that stage. You sure couldn't do that today

  • Too bad the sound wasn't better but these are all major, major legends. Jerry is awesome.

    Still funny today.

  • they were all on coke

  • @test2ube82 the only one on coke is you

  • comedians bust balls. backstage it's so much nicer, they are just gunning for laughs here. jerry is ok, they all were ok people.

  • Suddenly i'm in the mood for a paul mall infiltered

  • no ur a prick

  • wow maybe its humor but I sensed a lot of stuff built up and going on behind the scenes! and yes guys back then had real talent, they got tired of holding back like I can see here and then you get 60s, 70s humor- George Carlin is a perfect example

  • Yes, it is sooooo politically incorrect that I love it! I also love the word "capacious!" LOL! This is how REAL television was back in the day. Jerry looked looped on something.

  • good old days

  • What's up with the title and some of the comments?! This is just like any other regular Carson show. Jerry acts like he normally does and is quite funny. He is meaning to say what he is saying for laughs and so is everyone else. They were having fun! I agree with kimonui's comment below.

Thanks for sharing. Though, needs a different title change.

  • Jerry in his hey day was a jerk.

  • A jerk that has raised over a biliion dollars for charity ... yes ..over a billion dollars. How much have you given?

  • My father gave back in the 60s and I also gave. But that didn't mean that he didn't have an ego the size of alaska.

  • Humans are very capacious beings. They can manage to be generous humanitarians and jerks at the same time.

  • that set looks great! not too functional but ...

  • People. PEOPLE! Ya clueless overly PC newbies to the world. This is what they did. jeez. It was called humor. Theirs. and ours. Aw hell. Just go back to yer rap music.

  • Painful to watch. Yikes!

  • He made his fame and fortune with his talent and genius. He enjoyed being in the center of attention, and he knew very well how to do it, but that's not a crime. If an order came to shoot all those who like to "pose" all the artists would die, and not only them...

  • That seemed uncomfortable at the very least.

I would loved to have heard the difference in conversation with no audience present.

Also, Jerry seemed to be sending the message that Carson wasn't, "big time" yet. At ten years, he wasn't.

  • I think Jerry was filling in for Don Rickles!

  • Please post the rest of the tenth anniversary special. It was in the words of "Johnny" "GOOD STUFF!"

  • He broke the cigar as part of the gag.

  • YOU ARE NO FAN...LOL

  • You're a fan...?

  • Hey lady, say good night Gracie, Yes...huh, huh, huh, now cut that out, ahh, I did not know that. What's Joeys tag line??

  • Why is George Burns sitting all by himself? Did he have bad flatulence?

  • What? There was no 'dissing'.

Jerry's a genius. How great are all those people on stage?

  • "dissing" Ghetto term didnt exist back then.just good old times.

  • I rememba dis. I was woiking The Sands when I didn't get my invitation already. All of em class acts I tell you. Class acts ah...(hack hack hack cough cough cough) Oh looky there. I farted a pile of dust.

    Jackie Whipple Jr.

  • Thanks for posting this! Great stuff!!! I've only heard this of the "Here's Johnny" LP. I always thought Bishop was talking to Jerry about the blowing smoke in the face. And I too agree with the Sarge, no dissing here, just some old Friar ball-busting.

  • What a professional. When he realizes that he has to step in front of Johnny, he quickly spins around so he doesn't show Johnny his back, thus upstaging him. Nobody knows shit like that any more.

  • Jack Benny, George Burns, Joey Bishop, Johnny Carson. Jerry Lewis was trying hard to steal the show because he had to follow so many comics and everyone was stepping on lines and trying to steal it back. But as comics they all had mutual respect for each other and their on stage antics were just that. What's amazing is that Jerry had such close relationships with Joey Bishop, Sinatra, Sammy Davis and Lawford (working with all of them) but avoided Dean Martin. That must have been impossible.

  • Wow! Just finished a film in Sweden. Jerry must have been talking about "The Day the Clown Cried." Never to see the light of day.

  • And Johnny suspected i would never show, I suspect. I read the movie was terrible. This wa near the end of his movie-making days. He just couldn't do it any more, only guest appearances on TV or roles on other people's movies

  • sargeanthulka is right, there's no dissing here. They're all just joking around. That's how the comics operate. Among friends, like this, it's just roasting. All in fun. Jerry's reaction was just acting. He didn't take any offense to it, but you wouldn't get the same reaction from an audience if he just laughed at Johnny's comment. Plus, you expect him to come back with something other than a polite laugh.

  • There's no dissing here, it's all entertainment. You titled the clip wrong.

  • WTF was Jerry's problem?? They were just busting stones. Hell, he started it.

Take that stick out of your ass Jerry, and relax a little.

  • its called a joke fag! lighten up!

  • I am a little confused. These guys are comics. They made their careers being funny. They aren't mad at Jerry Lewis and Jack Benny breaking George Burns cigar WAS JUST A JOKE! It's just funny old guys braking each other's balls. That's just the way they do it.

  • Wow. This was ackward. Why did the guy break George's cigar?

  • That "guy" was Jack Benny.

  • Thanks. I didn't remember. So, why did he break the cigar?

  • Hmmm...interesting. So rare to see Jerry being thrown around like that. With his kind of ego...I'm sure he disliked that he wasn't driving the bus during that interview.

    Anymore from this??

  • thank you so much for shareing this with us . i havent seen this befor even though the sound a bit off it is still a pleshure to watch lol!

  • This was 1972 and yet, George Burns was already 116 years old.

  • I don't think Jerry has to worry , there are an awful lot of people who love him; I know I do. This very wonderful, do you have any more? I love to see Jerry in these types of settings; the closest I may ever get to seeing the real Jerr. Thanx so much <3x

  • yeah, he's great. I got to see him in KCMO in 1995 (I believe) during his tour in Damn Yankees. fantastic, He even did a standup routine afterward. Had front row seats. It was worth the price.

  • Hahaha. I got a kick out of this. Go Jer.

  • What year was this?

  • hey dished it out first.

  • Jerry took it like a champ. They were all just fooling around though...all in good fun...lol

  • Oy. Un-comfortable. Wow. Poor Jerry. I'm guessing that the film he's talking about is "The Day The Clown Cried."
