The first 2 years of a bulldogs life you should not let them use stairs or hop in and out of cars. You can damage his back legs and it will cause him/her alot of pain. Buy a book on careing for your bulldog. Very different then other dogs.

I think the best technique is to use a treat to coax him out, or pick him up and put him on the ground simulating the movement the dog would make himself to get out. Then put him back in the car and let him try it. Then reward him for doing what was asked of him. Then he has a clear idea of what to do. You don't want to make him skittish by yanking him. Positive reinforcement works best.

Yes, bulldogs DO have to be careful jumping from heights because of breed health/joint/structural issues. While they will/can learn to get in/out of a car on their own, puppies CAN do damage that will give them arthritis issues later and require supervision, as all puppies do. Not all breeds are the same & even within breeds there are variances. I can't open the car door around my English Bulldog or he'll scramble in; he LOVES the car. If I don't watch, he'll leap from an open rear hatch!

You gotta understand bulldogs to appreciate this video. Our bulldog is a tank and is not afraid of anything. She use to do the exact same thing at 8 years old and 52 pounds. It's a bulldog thing. They are stubborn..... and the car ride is over when they say it's over.

He wasn't being stubborn. He was unsure!! I'm sorry but the fall which was caused by the leash holder pulling him out shows he was not sure as in did not know how to how to descend SAFELY!. I agree with Sgeorge510, it would have been less harsh to help him out till he was bigger and had a bit more agility. I'm sure he got over it and learnt to get in and out safely but frankly it was unnecessary. Once they associate rides in the car with fun and play they're motivated. That's all you need

I don't feel like tugging your dog out of the car with make him/her more comfortable next to jumping out of the car rolls around. If the dog fears jumping out of the car, yanking him/her so they hit the ground may be a short term solution to getting them out of the car, but you've just further instilled their fear.

As an english bulldog owner, this seriously pissed me off. And candygirl, youre fucking stupid. English bulldogs puppies ARE fragile. They are prone to hip dysplasia and numerous other leg problems. Bumps like this can encourage them.
