You have to see the beginning of the movie to understand the atmosphere and why everyone there is like a family and would 'care' about any type of achievement of Alex(the smart guy of the park).
Uh, gee Boss. Thanks. No one gives a rat's ass about the family-like atmosphere . . . . everyone getting excited over this punk's video game is hysterically lame no matter what.
Just a minute youngster, learn some history of video games. First came Pong...a blip of light back and forth...then came Space Invaders and Asteroids. Hour long marathon gaming and a lot of friendly competition. When this movie came out the home systems were quite expensive, I remember buying an Atari for $150.00 and that was a sale price. People watching great gamers happened everywhere, as if it really mattered.
I can't play any of the new games . . . . give me some Tempest or Centipedes over all these lame shooting games and Lord of the Rings crap anyday. And remember when we'd line up all our quarters on the rim of the screen so people could look over and see that we'd be busy for a while and not bother us? And if you want a video game movie that hasn't aged well, just take a second look at TRON. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
YEAH YEAH! I miss those days! Standing side by side sweatin' it out over a game of Street Fighter 2! Only the really good players would put their quarters up. I remember.:)

HAHAHA!!! SF2 was about when I stopped playing. Before that I can remember a few games at the local donut shop or 7-11 that totally consumed me.
"Karate Champ", "Kung Fu Master", "Legendary Wings", "Kickers, Inc.", "Gondomania", "Double Dragon", and . . . . . "TOTAL CARNAGE"
