Interesting in how this video only gives one side of the argument.
If your case is so rock solid, give both sides and let people decide for themselves which side they favor.
We have blind/private voting in local and national elections for a reason. You speak of voter intimidation from the employer, but don't speak of intimidation from the union and union thugs..........as we've seen in one video after another.
Soooo, this isn't about health care as much as it is union power.
So let's say given a choice I would CHOOSE Dr. Smith who is covered by Insurance plan A; but my co-workers who do not even live near me (thus not having access to the same medical facilities or personnel) have better doctors under plan B, which does not allow me to use Dr. Smith.
I now have to lobby against the best interests of my fellow co-workers to receive the best health care for my family and self.
Labor is an open market just like the stocks you buy on the NYSE. There's a going rate for skilled and unskilled labor. If you don't like your compensation then look elsewhere or start your own company.
This country was founded with a free market system and unions degrade that. If your job goes overseas, so be it! Go back to school. Become better skilled than those Chinese or Indians who make your cogs or write your code!
your thoughts are simplistic and do not reflect an intelligent, nuanced position
you are way off. total free market without government is oppressive and horrendous. money is funneled up to the very very rich more and more, without government checks in the free market we have EXTREME poverty, starvation, more crime, more illiteracy, child labor, no healthcare, etc
look at 1890s britain or US! look at the modern first world nations of western europe! where would you rather live?
The only way this would be an employee free choice is if it was the right to vote by secret ballot. This act will subject employees to intimidation and is a one sided act in favor of unions. Give all sides a fair shake. By taking the right to vote away you are implying that employees do not have the intellect to make the correct choice for their future. . I voted for President Obama with this right and I want the same right to make any other decisions that will have an effect on my future.
Unions make up 12% of the US workforce and don't have the ability to threaten workers with losing their jobs. You tell me where the power to intimidate is.
you don't understand the bill or the current situation. look at the way businesses intimidate worker's choice in the current set up. there have been plenty of studies showing how businesses oppress unions and fire or threaten those who want to discuss the possibility. look at the history of union labor - the laws in the mid 70s that destroyed american unions and led to smaller and smaller percentages of workers being represented
then look at stats on income inequality - how it grew since!
@sullim04 : The law is currently one-sided because the coercion comes from the boss. If you take the time to read the EFCA Amendments; and have basic knowledge of the National Labor Relations Act, you would discover that EFCA doesn't repeal any current secret ballot language.
Before you voted for President Clinton, did your boss take you and your co-workers into a meeting and state that you would lose your jobs? That's the reality of current labor law.
When his reinvestment plane works the replacement of good paying American jobs will jump start the economy. And as it grows the tax base will widen and the defect will shrink. You business men should know you have to spend money to make money
The horse has left the stable and it is too late to close the door. With the loss of the Glass-Steagall act THANKS Republicans Gramm, Leach, Bliley, the banks are to large to fail
The Ron Paul and Russ Lameball guys will come out of the woodwork and say IT WAS THE Democrats FAULT but there is a lot of blame to go around.
Republicans are screaming Socialism but they dont have a problem with sending American jobs to a communist country (CHINA) to make money in the short term at the expense of American workers
The recovery is borrowing thousands of dollars per tax payer to give to failing companies and make "down-payments" on massive new entitlement programs. We would be better far off if they did nothing at all.
It is a fact that even working middle class Republican voters are mad the union voted for Democrats, But they dont think or see that democrats side with the middle class a lot more often then Republicans
I would disagree with that. My sense is the democrats are a coalition of a rich and educated elite and those on the dole in one way or another. The Reps are another coalition of libertarians and social conservatives.
Why are business men so freaked out, if they are paying a living wage and are treating their workers with respect the workers will pass on the union anyway? Why are they so scared?
who the heck defines "living wage"? You? The union bosses? Or, heaven forbid, the people who have created the job and who enter into free negotiations with current or potential employees?
this standard generally means that a person working forty hours a week, with no additional income, should be able to afford a specified quality or quantity of housing, food, utilities, transport, health care, and recreation.
Union or labor union is an organization run by and for workers who have banded together to achieve common goals in key areas and working conditions. The trade union, through its leadership, bargains with the employer on behalf of union members (rank and file members) and negotiates labor contracts (Collective bargaining) "WITH EMPLOYERS"
It called Collective Bargaining, so a group of workers bargain or negotiates WITH the employer to come up with a wage that is fair to the workers and employer this idea that it is one sided is just not true. We have non union businesses going bankrupt just as fast as union; because people that actually MAKE THINGS are getting paid less and losing jobs to countries that dont have labor laws.
I have nothing against unions in principle. I am interested in protecting the rights of workers. But big unions don't always have the worker's interests at heart, just as our leaders in government are driven by selfish motives, so too are the actions of union leaders.
Yes you will always have some bad apples but we cant toss the baby out with the bath water, you have to agree that we have strength in numbers. The reason the rich republican power base is trying to prevent people from forming unions is that a well educated, informed and organized work force that votes will undermine their lobbying efforts.
you ignore the concept of competitive advantage. If you are twice as good as me at X, but 5 times as good at Y, then I should do X and you should do Y. You don't have time to do both. It is not a fixed pie, this division of labor will create more for the world. Besides, even if the pie was fixed, goods would be cheaper, as would wages, so, it all equals out.
Interesting in how this video only gives one side of the argument.

@skreese26 : "The labor of a human being is not a commodity or an article of commerce." The Clayton Act of 1914.
So it's been settled law for almost 100 years in our nation. Thus, the end of the lesson.

There is no secret ballot currently in place. What the EFCA WILL take away is the Employer's ability to intimidate.

And you don't think Unions intimidate workers - the initimidation comes from both sides.
