Dear God, what nostalgic memories this brings back! I watched this as a kid back in 1975 (I was 6 years old). Yeah, sure, as an adult I can see how people say how cheesy it is. But back as a 6 year old kid, this really appealed to me. I loved how it starred Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker from F Troop (another one of my favorite sitcoms, then and now), the gorilla, the old car they drove around in, the ghost busting theme of the show (as I loved ghost stories), and the overall comedy. Fun show!
I just found "the entire series" on DVD at Books-a-Million yesterday. I looked at it and said to myself, "So, *this* is what that cartoon was based on!" It even has the gorilla!
So the Real Ghostbusters weren't the real ones... Hmmm Just the BETTER Ones!.. I remeber The Filmation Ghostbusters Animated series too, i liked that one as well
I went to see Forrest Tucker sign autographs about the time this show was on.... I was the only one under ten in the crowd, when it was my turn I told him how much I loved Ghost Busters, his response was a hushed "Thanks, kid" It took many years before I realized I was shining a light on an area of his career that he'd rather not too many adults see.
@EmSeeSquared Racism:The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
I simply made a joke that does not fit this definition. Please understand the words you use.
@krelbar you called Ernie Hudson a gorilla. a racist description that HAS been given to black people. i've even seen incredulous assumptions that King Kong was meant to represent a black slave in love wit a white woman. so yes, your comment sounded racist.
@EmSeeSquared Tons of comedians, black and white, use derogatory terms for their own race and other races and it is accepted. Why can't everyday people make the same jokes? After all, like I said, it was a joke. If you couldn't ascertain that from my original statement-well-that's your problem. As a side note, people jokingly call me a Nazi, because my mother is native german. Are they saying I kill Jews? No...they are just making a joke-and it doesn't bother me one bit. Get a thicker skin.
@krelbar if a comedian is using a derogatory term for their own race, they're making fun of themselves. but if someone outside their race is doing it, then it's out of line, UNLESS they know the person and KNOW that they're just being funny. if i go on a comment board, where pretty much EVERYONE is a stranger to everyone else, and i see "The Ghostbusters movies should have had a Gorilla sidekick" "They did...Ernie Hudson.", i'm gonna take that as a hurtful, racist comment.

I love how the real ones stole the name. That's pretty awesome actually, since this is like mystery science theatre material.
