As an antagonist, Sephiroth did a good job at getting in your way, pissing you off, and basically making your characters feel insignificant. As a villain though, I believe he's average. Just becoming a crazed lunatic because he can't accept the fact that he's not real. But either way, it's a good game.

He's a GOOD villain, however, which is why I disagree that he is 'average'. X-Death is average. Sephiroth is far more memorable, far more worthy of hate than many other villains. That being said, he is not the BEST, mostly because his motives are foggy, His actions, not his motives, are what defined him.

this reminds me of when boss battles in games were difficult.
demons souls was the most recent game that had bosses that were actually challenging and forced me to sit down at the door before the battle to revise my strategy since i got my ass kicked the last 4 times.
in FFXIII i got the trophy for getting a 5 star rating on the final boss the very first time i fought it.
not that it wasnt a good game cause i enjoyed it but it says something about how easy games have gotten

I agree mainly with the comment that the goal here is to hear what the music in Sephiroth's head sounds like. In other words, this song is #1 in old Sephiroth's Ipod.
I'm probably one of the few people that didn't even realize this song existed back when FFVII came out.
I honestly couldn't hear this track over Knights of the Round. I was too busy watching all of the knights godslash him to death to realize Sephiroth had a theme (I didn't even know Super Nova existed). They shouldn't put Super Bosses before Final Bosses, at least not on the first play through.

@MrSlaide i woludn't say it's bad, but it IS an overrated game. take a look at all the prequels and the fanboys that it created. you probably won't catch any older gamers as fanboys (started gaming in the SNES games) but you definitely will see a lot of 14, 15 year old kids saying this is "teh best game evar!" the reason why I think it's overrated is because of what it caused to gaming. ever since this particular game out, i could not find a single rpg (besides xenogears) that was actually great

@MrSlaide I couldn't agree with you more. It has not diminished in popularity. One could argue that spin-offs made such as DoC and Crisis Core were money-makers, pure and simple. But one could also--and, in my opinion, more correctly--say that they were made because of the sheer emotional power and sense of catharsis the story evoked. FFVII, whether you're a gamer or not, is undeniable. Cloud was the quintessential RPG protagonist, and I'd be proud that other characters emulate him, not sick.

I have played ff7 and do like sephiroth, but in my opinion, he isn't that great compared to kefka. I DO, however, enjoy fighting sephiroth in kingdom hearts games.
Personally....as GREAT and amazing as this song is.....I actually like the Bizarro Sephiroth fight theme much more now. It has that final battle feel to it.
as a kid, i was terrified playing this part because like i said, it's not the usual boss theme that usually pumps you up and give you confidence in a fight and it really caught me off guard. The result is it made me very cautious on my attacks to see how he would counter (supernova= QQ)
In short, the theme is made to emphasize a new definition of fear, which is what makes it great and it becomes memorable to players because of that very reason

On my first and only playthrough, I spoiled the last battle entirely by spamming Knights of the Round all over Sephy's face . That's all I remember. xP

I remember when I first hit this scene. I was playing through FF7 because I was devoted to the series, but I wasn't having all that good a time. I was finding the story a bit confusing, and the sidequests distracting. (I'm trying to save the world, why am I teaching birds to hump again?) Then *this* started playing. Made me sit bolt upright and go "Oh shit!" Took Sephiroth from annoying personal nemesis to unstoppable badass by virtue of soundtrack only.

Nah, it's a pathetic battle, as his damage output is incredibly low, even when you're severely underleveled. It doesn't help that the background in the battle is extremely anti-climatic --- purple soup going in a circle? Really? Good work, Square. Let me hand you the Cookie of Fail.
I remember the first time I heard this song, my friend was showing me the entire battle and he had all the summons. I already saw the game one time before this I think. But this time the person playing was only trying to catch chocobos around..Let's say that when I saw the final battle, with the song, the knights of the round table, I was fucking sold o_o especially at 12 years old XD
I think this song works fine at 22. It's a legendary song with so much epicness, but it isn't the greatest song out there. Sorry fanboys, I love FF7 but I don't think this song is the greatest thing since birth control pills.

@lordsofthedance23 I'll give you that it was 'influential' for it's time, but it is not the best, not the most influential RPG of all time. People wet themselves over it's graphics, but then eight came out with FMVs that blew FFVII out of the water in terms of detail and fluidity with game play, but it wasn't received by the masses as well.
VII was a sub par Final Fantasy. However, a sub par Final Fantasy is still a pretty good game in it's own right, so some credit should be given there.
It wasn't the most influencial for me but in the general overview of RPG's. My most influencial RPG was Lunar the silve star story, sega cd. That is what did it for me. I just hate how people think it gives them RPG cred by dissing Final Fantasy 7. I have been playing these games from the beginning and this was an amazing game. Not nearly the best of all time.

I have played two times to the end. At first i have needed about 30 hours, at the second time the ingame-counter stops at 99.99.59...
Then in the very last fight i used the omni-punch: 9999 9999 9999 9999 9999 9999 damage per hit......lol

This fight was disappointing at best. Sephiroth was harder in KH2, and he was too easy in that.
Hardest part of this battle: Staying awake during the supernova cast animation.

I was only expressing my OWN version of interpretation of what MIGHT Uematsu wanted to deliver. Very epic, and truly one of the all time greats. I actually think top 25 is good enough, because there are just some out there that are masterpieces.
It fit well with the game itself, so it's definitely one of my favorite final boss themes.

I remember when I first hit this scene. I was playing through FF7 because I was devoted to the series, but I wasn't having all that good a time. I was finding the story a bit confusing, and the sidequests distracting. (I'm trying to save the world, why am I teaching birds to hump again?) Then *this* started playing. Made me sit bolt upright and go "Oh shit!" Took Sephiroth from annoying personal nemesis to unstoppable badass by virtue of soundtrack only.

@lordsofthedance23 I'll give you that it was 'influential' for it's time, but it is not the best, not the most influential RPG of all time. People wet themselves over it's graphics, but then eight came out with FMVs that blew FFVII out of the water in terms of detail and fluidity with game play, but it wasn't received by the masses as well.
VII was a sub par Final Fantasy. However, a sub par Final Fantasy is still a pretty good game in it's own right, so some credit should be given there.

It wasn't the most influencial for me but in the general overview of RPG's. My most influencial RPG was Lunar the silve star story, sega cd. That is what did it for me. I just hate how people think it gives them RPG cred by dissing Final Fantasy 7. I have been playing these games from the beginning and this was an amazing game. Not nearly the best of all time.

The song itself, has a very powerful emotional impact to those who played the game. Alone its still great in the eyes of many because it can portray the atmosphere and Sephiroth's presence intensely, which is important because of his type of character (one very well known character to many many gamers). Nobou makes great music. Personaly I love this song, best... dk, matter of opinion. Overrated song/game? Hmm.. it had a very amazing balance/touches to elements that made it just right. Thats why
