The US pacific fleet outfitted the USS Seawolf and sent it to listen in to an underwater cable that led telephone lines in the pacific theater. It got some intell, but not much, and the repeated operation cost over 50M$ when the dollar meant something. The USSR sent 2M$ to a quatermaster for the pacific fleet, and they got complete crew rosters, food rosters and probable weapon loadouts for 3 years in a row.

US defenses? Really? The best other countries can hope for is that the US military gets weak enough for us to not launch invasions, but we're adding ground troops under Obama and we're using Iraq as a training ground. People need to look at Iraq realistically. Only 4,000 US troops have died in about 7 years. That's a low number in any war-occupation.

Even if the US had no military we have 300 million+ citizens and the most guns in the world. Invasion would be impossible.

invasion is not necessary; all anyone would really need to do is use cruise missiles to destroy your refineries that are all near the coasts - the seven major ones. In fact because no new refineries have been added, the US with increased gasoline consumption is not capable of producing all of its needs.
