in canada we have government inspectors that come to every farm and slaughter plant to make sure the livestock is handled moved cared for and slaughtered in a humane way u cant kill a pig with that bolt gun its worthless but its cheap and thats why they use it. if my ol man saw me do this to an animal he would kick my ass and asked how i liked it bottom line treat animals well and u will have a good product in the end

Just where do you get your information from? PETA absolutely DOES NOT kill 100,000 animals per year. They euthanize animals each year because that is the only option left for the animals. The ones that can be adopted usually are, you have to realize that PETA rescues animals that were so horribly abused, they may no longer have a quality of life. They euthanize the animals quickly and humanely and are often there comforting the animals as they pass. They've killed 23,000 animals in 12 years.

Interesting, but you have to keep in mind that "factory farming" or whatever you call it is why we, for the first time in history, have enough food for everyone. Yes, meat production isn't pleasant, but it just points out how removed we are from our food production. Animal cruelty is not good, but eating meat is not a crime. In the wild, animals abide by an eco-cycle including vegetarianism, predatorism & scavengism. Its all part of the eco-cycle guys. This video is not representative of the way these animals are treated. Furthermore, "factory farming" is the result of people being unwilling to spend more than $1 on their McDonalds cheeseburger. If you want these practices to stop, be willing to pay more for the product. It takes money (a LOT of it) to implement practices that would be considered humane by the public's standards.

I come from Ukrainian farming lineage. There is nothing natural about our modern day food sources when it comes to animal rearing. "Real" farming no longer exists. I was not at all removed from my food source hence my reason for not going miles within animals reared in today's world. These poor creatures are mere cesspools of drugs, misery, squalor and despair. I agree, there is nothing natural about these farming practices, yet I do believe meat should be eaten. My uncle rases cattle for food in a large pasture full of grass and space to run. He doesn't buy industrially processed meat, and the cattle are killed quickly. I believe that is the best way to eat meat, but another alternative is eating foods from free grazing cattle.

I dissagree. Our canines may be smaller than most predators, but they designed for meat. Notice monkeys, who are anatomically related to us scavenge, and given the chance they eat meat. I don't condone or agree whatsoever with this technique for acquiring meat. Protein is actually a necessaty for our muscle growth (the brain included, its a muscle). As an athlete, if I don't get enough protein in my diet I cannot retain my muscles.

There are federal regulations that reqire most food animals to be processed in a state or federally inspected facility. In other words, it doesn't matter how the beef people you know treat their animals, they have no control over how they're treated once they leave the farm. I have a hard time believeing a touring facility will be inclined to show you the truth.

Dairy calve are not treated like that, the auction isn't even American, at 1:25 they are not even speaking English. little pigs don't have their ears mutilated, it's a form of ID. I judge meats and we had to go through a whole plant to find a dairy type cattle, took me about 10-15 mins so from the first off this video is full of bull.
I used to ride w/ my uncle a few yrs ago while he hauled cattle. This video does not only represent the common conditions; it was actually not as graphic as it could have been. Every slaughter house we went to you could see in-humane treatment. On one occasion, my uncle transported Veal calves who were cruelly forced onto the truck because they couldn't walk; only to arrive in Illinois with their bellies frozen to the trailer. They ripped open as the workers forced them off the truck.

This video kills me. Native Americans saw animals as food, but thought there was honor in an animal giving its life to provide food to us. We need to see animals not just as a resource, but as any creatures that deserve respect. Shame on all of us who are not willing to look where our food comes from and not demand better conditions.

Just where do you get your information from? PETA absolutely DOES NOT kill 100,000 animals per year. They euthanize animals each year because that is the only option left for the animals. The ones that can be adopted usually are, you have to realize that PETA rescues animals that were so horribly abused, they may no longer have a quality of life. They euthanize the animals quickly and humanely and are often there comforting the animals as they pass. They've killed 23,000 animals in 12 years.

Interesting, but you have to keep in mind that "factory farming" or whatever you call it is why we, for the first time in history, have enough food for everyone. Yes, meat production isn't pleasant, but it just points out how removed we are from our food production. Animal cruelty is not good, but eating meat is not a crime. In the wild, animals abide by an eco-cycle including vegetarianism, predatorism & scavengism. Its all part of the eco-cycle guys. On the other hand, I don't believe these methods of obtaining meat is correct, far from. You have no idea walking into any chain restaurant how their animals were treated before they were processed. That generalization is very dumb. This video is not representative of the way these animals are treated. Furthermore, "factory farming" is the result of people being unwilling to spend more than $1 on their McDonalds cheeseburger. If you want these practices to stop, be willing to pay more for the product. It takes money (a LOT of it) to implement practices that would be considered humane by the public's standards.

I come from Ukrainian farming lineage. There is nothing natural about our modern day food sources when it comes to animal rearing. "Real" farming no longer exists. I was not at all removed from my food source hence my reason for not going miles within animals reared in today's world. These poor creatures are mere cesspools of drugs, misery, squalor and despair. I agree, there is nothing natural about these farming practices, yet I do believe meat should be eaten. My uncle rases cattle for food in a large pasture full of grass and space to run. He doesn't buy industrially processed meat, and the cattle are killed quickly. I believe that is the best way to eat meat, but another alternative is eating foods from free grazing cattle.

I'm not condoning cruelty, but do most of you even know that cows prefer to stand and are more comfortable standing? I dissagree. Our canines may be smaller than most predators, but they designed for meat. Notice monkeys, who are anatomically related to us scavenge, and given the chance they eat meat. I don't condone or agree whatsoever with this technique for acquiring meat. Protein is actually a necessaty for our muscle growth (the brain included, its a muscle). As an athlete, if I don't get enough protein in my diet I cannot retain my muscles.

I know vegetarian families, obviously and in a personal close experience opinion a friend of mine is a professional rock climbing teacher & engineer in computer systems graduated with honors, first of his class, monkeys does that because don't know an extensive variety of food as we do in their environment, neither gorillas eat meat and they have great fangs, pandas eat only bamboo, and where does all cattle takes protein to build their muscles if they feed from pastures "naturally"?

About the book...it's a must read. I hope those of you that really want to learn will take the time to do some of your own research. There are federal regulations that reqire most food animals to be processed in a state or federally inspected facility. In other words, it doesn't matter how the beef people you know treat their animals, they have no control over how they're treated once they leave the farm. I have a hard time believeing a touring facility will be inclined to show you the truth.

This is slander! I doubt the slaughter plants are even in America, I've toured one and its nothing like the ones in the video. Dairy calve are not treated like that, the auction isn't even American, at 1:25 they are not even speaking English. little pigs don't have their ears mutilated, it's a form of ID. They make a notch in the sides of the ear which represents a #. The pig unloading trailer in not an American trailer, so again not in USA.

99.9% of slaughtered cattle and pigs are not treated like that, they are givin a humane death and trust me I know many people who raise cattle and they dont treat their animals like that. I'll support the beef industry till they day I die.

Look up the statistics of Factory Farming and Family Farming, family farms don't make much money- the world is all about money- organic cruelty free beef is a rarity. Ignorance is Bliss- you really shouldn't post fallacies, Educate yourself first. About 20% of farms are family owned, but that was in 2003. Either way my body won't be a tomb for other animals, I'd like live a healthy life and die a peaceful death, following our natural design.

I just want to let you know, I have no problem with what you believe, however misguided I feel they are, this is America. You may eat what you wish, I just wish to get the facts straight on animal cruelty. Such cruelty just doesn't happen. Especially the part where they claim hogs are scalded alive considering hogs are bled completely before being put into the scalder.

You should realize that the SAME people who raise beef cattle, dairy cattle and swine GROW YOUR DAMN VEGETABLES. so if you're all gung ho about sticking it to the farmers- good luck. Better start building yourself a little flower pot garden in your backyard and growing your own shit cause buying it from anywhere including orgainic or health food stores- bet your ass its grown on a 15000 acre operation that has cattle also.

FYI I do grow my own meat I do grow my own vegatables and no your wrong most people who have plant fields are not animal factory farmers! duh that is a stupid thing to think if you have 500 acres of corn wheat etc.. you are spending most of your time working on plants running machinery etc. to have a factory farm! yes they may have a small herd of sheep or cattle but I am talking about FACTORY Farming not REGULAR farming there is a difference look it up.

you "grow" your own meat? its not a tree. I am an Agriculture Business MAJOR it is my profession, MY life and my FAMILIES life. We have cattle, soybeans, corn, wheat and cotton on 7000 acres. So I feed you, dress you and feed myself some good beef. You apparently have never been on a large scale farm. It's not one person running the whole thing its a family & hired help operation- we have time for a lrg herd & row crops. and FYI we have over 3500 PAIRS of BRANGUS CATTLE. Thats a pretty damn big

Provide room for animals to live and thrive, provide a humane death, provide adequate room on cargo trucks, increase the price for meat at the supermarket to compensate for their proper treatment. If we can't respect a fellow animal (we are animals too) then we shouldn't consume it. In this scenario, respect comes in the form of price per lb. I'm on my way to vegetarianism.

I used to ride w/ my uncle a few yrs ago while he hauled cattle. This video does not only represent the common conditions; it was actually not as graphic as it could have been. Every slaughter house we went to you could see in-humane treatment. On one occasion, my uncle transported Veal calves who were cruelly forced onto the truck because they couldn't walk; only to arrive in Illinois with their bellies frozen to the trailer. They ripped open as the workers forced them off the truck.

This is heartwrenching..what people shld really learn is that when meat is consumed, we are eating fear, anxiety, depression- in essence, we are what we eat.
These poor defensless animals die with fear.
I made the decision to turn veg, not by only based upon seeing or hearing abt the torture of animals but exactly what I was eating.

This movie is sickening. We just started learning about this in school and my teacher has gotten many e-mails from parents complaining that their child has made them buy organic meat or has become a vegetarian.
Why the fuck are people making this racial? This has nothing to do with racial issues this has to do with some large company owner who just wants money. The fast food companies get it cheap so they can sell it for more and get more money too.

This video kills me. Native Americans saw animals as food, but thought there was honor in an animal giving its life to provide food to us. We need to see animals not just as a resource, but as any creatures that deserve respect. Shame on all of us who are not willing to look where our food comes from and not demand better conditions.

The people castrating the piglet without anesthetic, bleeding the cow to death etc. are not the only ones responsible for this cruelty. If you drink milk and eat meat - then YOU are, too.
Every single person who drinks milk and consumes animal products (including poultry and fish) should be made to watch this video (as well as the Peta video "Meet Your Meat"). I would hope that the vast majority would then become vegan.
