On this day, yeah - the weather was aweful. From memory it was 35-45 knots gusting winds. There were thunderstorms in the area, that was part of the reason why we were held so long.
They are installing "stop bars" to upgrade the current lighting to CAT III specifications. More can be read about this at the airservices australia web site - Sup S7-H87
Ahhh - I thought it might have been - but the last time I remember seeing that road it was a single lane in both directions - so it must have been upgraded since I was last out that way.

I remember flying through a storm between the Gold Coast & Melbourne several years ago & it's quite interesting & hair raising I must say.

Awesome video, Could of also being an RNAV approach... just to let you know the road you thought was the ring road is actually keilor Park drive :)

The aircraft appears to position off the inbound radial and onto the runway centerline. This wouldn't occur on an RNAV approach.

Very Nice! Excellent landing, not that you'd expect any different on Virgin Blue.. :P. I'd put money on it that it was a VOR approach though.
