The price diff is due to several things: malpractice insurance, defensive medicine, ungainly privacy and records requirements, insurance paperwork, Medicare/Medicaid payment schedules below cost (the losses have to be made up elsewhere), large numbers of unpaid procedures, etc. The system is broken; only, government intrusion is invariably the CAUSE, not the solution.
