Listen here, dorks. I'm a fan of these Dragonlance books insomuch as they were my gateway into fantasy fiction as a young, impressionable youth. I've also met Margaret and Tracy and they are the nicest people you will ever meet. That said, if you're going to try and convince me that this series of novels deserves the same big screen or television treatment as Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones you've got your work cut out for you.
Yea, I've see this animated movie...and I must say its HORRIBLE. I've read alot of the books in the series and there are NONE better than the first six. In fact I like the Drangonlance series (orig 6) more than the Lord of the Rings,which are gr8. I still hold out hope that one day they will be full features like the way they did the LOTR trilogy..They so deserve the same respect...One can hope can't one?

they stand to make a ton of money should they do it... each book could be a 10 episode season.. there a good 6 seasons of material with the first 6 books and would be good enough to close it out after that.

Should Have Been Split Into 2 Or 3 Films To Do It Justice!

It looks like a children's cartoon. But the book was geared more toward teens/young adults/adults, so I don't get the kiddy-like graphics. It's such an amazing series, and deserves better!

The animation was so piss poor I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes. The only thing that would've made this production even more shitter than it was would have been the inclusion of Jar Jar Binks. Years waiting for a film adaptation and this is the best they could come up with. A kid could've done better with crayons.
So I heard they were making this and spent months trying to decide whether I even want to see a trailer of it - I hate watching 'movie' versions of books, because they usually destroy the whole portrayal of a character in your head - I'd finally decided to watch this trailer but I'm so glad for all these comments, because now I'm not going to now I know it's absolute rubbish. I read the books as a kid and they were fun but even at the time I read them (mid to late 80s?), this would have been embarrassing beyond belief! Puh-lease, this is official?!? You've got to admit that it's a very long, long way from the best fantasy series but makes a good kid's introduction....even so....there must surely be some public domain animation software that is getting a hernia laughing at this 60's-era crap!

Damn, I remember this movie and it sucked. I saw it on TV and thought it would be interesting, because I kinda rarely see an animated epic fantasy movie. When I first saw it, I had little hope, thinking this must have been an old movie when animation was still young. But as soon as I saw the 3D monsters, I knew that it was going to suck. This actually reminds me of that Warcraft game that was canceled.
Second, it was an experiment. If you know a little about the LOTR then you would know they were trying that too, they made it animated first and then they made a movie.
Ziom, Ralph Bakshi's LOTR is not only more interesting than Jackson's LOTR, but its also 100,000,000,001 times better than this piece of unimaginative and badly written crap animated by approximately 4-7 underpaid Indians.
I mean really, the animation looks like it was from early 80's....If they would do Dragonlance movies LOTR style, then I would like to see it, but this...this is just utter crap! It's like that Ultramarines movie that is now out, that's utter crap too!
I mean really, Hollywood is ignoring so many great franchises, like Dragonlance, Artemis Fowl and Warhammer 40k....with proper director's and actors you could make so many great movies out of those franchises.
@Balnazzardi There are many others including Dragonlance that deserve a live-action film, like Forgotten Realms, Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer Fantasy, Riftwar Saga, Dying Earth, new Conan, Elric, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, Earthsea (forget the anime movie), A Princess of Mars (a real movie of it), Song of Ice and Fire, Terrinoth (the board game series), The Silmarillion, Mage Knight, Hyperborean Cycle, and Discworld.

Other video games like Elder Scrolls, Might & Magic, Diablo, Everquest, Guild Wars, Defense of the Ancients, Dragon Age, Kingdom Under Fire, Bard's Tale, and Ultima could have decent movies if done right. Also, what we really need is a D&D movie actually done right, not the one with Jeremy Irons.

@Balnazzardi - Wizards of the Coast HATES the DL saga for some reason. I guess it makes too much money for them or something. I recall with excitement when I first heard that this movie was being made. Then I watched in horror as the budget was continuously slashed until it was down to something like a mere $1,000,000.00. Sad to see what they did to this great novel. Truly, truly sad. :(

I've read the entire Dragonlance series, and imo, if you're going to make a movie on one of their trilogies, then you need Peter Jackson to do it LOTR style. Otherwise, it is a slap in the face to all of us who love this series!

I'm sure the quality of this animation boils down to what most things boil down to and that is money. if they had a bigger budget for this film then the quality would be there. they must not be spending much on it.
While this wasn't the best quality; Neither is most Anime if you really look at it. Sure it's popular right now but much of the quality is pure shit.
That is, unless you think that 20 seconds of an unmoving character with only a mouth moving; or a still shot of a jumping character with swishy lines moving in the background is somehow 'high quality" animation.
@Sakyosha It's a matter of appearance, not just outright quality. It has to be visually appealing, not necessarily "high quality" to be good. That's what makes anime like Ghost in the Shell, Samurai Champloo and Full Metal Alchemist successful. Plus some of that "unmoving character" stuff provides more insight than American animation (ie: characters thinking). Though Japanese MOVIES are a totally different style from TV series, so at that point you're judging on 3 different levels, not 2.

Ever since I saw Golgo 13 for the first time way-back-when, I realized that computer graphics and animation just don't work very well together, especially when the animation is sub-par. Pfft. You think that of all the money Wizards of the Coast has swindled from everyone, they could have presented something better than that.

Damn, I remember this movie and it sucked. I saw it on TV and thought it would be interesting, because I kinda rarely see an animated epic fantasy movie. When I first saw it, I had little hope, thinking this must have been an old movie when animation was still young. But as soon as I saw the 3D monsters, I knew that it was going to suck. This actually reminds me of that Warcraft game that was canceled.

Other video games like Elder Scrolls, Might & Magic, Diablo, Everquest, Guild Wars, Defense of the Ancients, Dragon Age, Kingdom Under Fire, Bard's Tale, and Ultima could have decent movies if done right. Also, what we really need is a D&D movie actually done right, not the one with Jeremy Irons.

I recall with excitement when I first heard that this movie was being made. Then I watched in horror as the budget was continuously slashed until it was down to something like a mere $1,000,000.00. Sad to see what they did to this great novel. Truly, truly sad. :(

I've read the entire Dragonlance series, and imo, if you're going to make a movie on one of their trilogies, then you need Peter Jackson to do it LOTR style. Otherwise, it is a slap in the face to all of us who love this series!

While this wasn't the best quality; Neither is most Anime if you really look at it. Sure it's popular right now but much of the quality is pure shit.
That is, unless you think that 20 seconds of an unmoving character with only a mouth moving; or a still shot of a jumping character with swishy lines moving in the background is somehow 'high quality" animation.

@Sakyosha It's a matter of appearance, not just outright quality. It has to be visually appealing, not necessarily "high quality" to be good. That's what makes anime like Ghost in the Shell, Samurai Champloo and Full Metal Alchemist successful. Plus some of that "unmoving character" stuff provides more insight than American animation (ie: characters thinking). Though Japanese MOVIES are a totally different style from TV series, so at that point you're judging on 3 different levels, not 2.

Ever since I saw Golgo 13 for the first time way-back-when, I realized that computer graphics and animation just don't work very well together, especially when the animation is sub-par. Pfft. I'd rather watch the Dungeons and Dragons movies back-to-back, and that might kill me.
