Mean Floyd was just an cowardly childish and stupid man! He look like the carpenter from The Walrus and the Carpenter in Disney's animated movie, Alice in Wonderland. Look at his face and his lips. And Rover Joe was an sleepy hound dog who need a peaceful rest.
I just found this...loved it as a kid, still love it today. But hey, tubaplayindonkey, I could have sworn when Rover Joe is telling the story he actually says, in his unique way, something like, "but he steepppped on maah ta-il". Am I remembering it wrong?
How were they able to make the farmers' mouths move when their hands where the arms are? Like when Mean Floyd said "Ghosts are comin' up outta the ground, waitin' for a body". How'd Jim do that? & maybe Rover Joe didn't know it was Mean Floyd how stepped on his tail, & who's butt has in his mouth, & that DOES seem suicydel when he gets thrown out the closed window.
With big bird, it's a puppeteer inside with one hand doing the mouth, the other an arm, and there is a camera inside so they can see... This looks like the same way, since, I think, one of the arms doesn't move... but, at least for Leroy, it's smart intercutting of different puppets, I think... so I dunno.
Actually, the puppeteers each fitted their lips in the mask's lips which allowed them to move the mouths like the zombies in The Haunted Mansion movie.
The cat was my favorite...and now watching it as a 30 year old adult..she still is. Her accent is a breath of fresh air to me. (im southern as well) lol also I like the way she sings the blues as well. This movie is a classic! I love it when she says..."NO I AINT"
Mean Floyd is voiced and performed by none other than Jim Henson, so his voice will share qualities with some of Jim's other characters like the Swedish Chef, Ernie, and even Kermit the frog.
I agree with both Rkean44 and Classicssfan, I really dislike Mean Floyd too. How could anyone mistreat such a sweet dog? I love dogs and I'd love to have Rover Joe as my dog. :)

I don't think so. If you look when Mean Floyd says "Oh, that dang dowg is gone.", both his hands are holding the rake but his mouth's moving.

well since the principle muppeteers did 100's of characters it's hard not to hear the similarities..
however, the fact that leroy sound like Bender from futurama is just funny
