As the way I understand it our "Civilian Soldiers" get crap equipment (Viet nam era) and have to do the same job as our "Professional Soldiers". I sent you a private message with the transcript of the entire speech. The speech is about volunteerism, expanding Americorps, the Peace Corps, Energy Corps and a host of other ways Americans can give back to their country to make it a better place.
It does not, as the original poster of this clip stated, include the word 'paramilitary.'

To me this sounds like he's talking about our National Guard being as strong as the regular military. As the way I understand it our "Civilian Soldiers" get crap equipment (Viet nam era) and have to do the same job as our "Professional Soldiers". I take this speech by Obama as meaning he's for increasing funding for the US National Guard to bring them up to spec. Google it and you'll find plenty of info about the poor conditions, nam era equipment, etc..

Ya know, I think there may be a reason it's called the "National Guard" because maybe they aren't supposed to be offensive? In fact they're only supposed to be a malitia but we've lost sight of that as well. If I remember that's what they said about Germany in the 1920-30's when the Gastapo came into the act. You'd be amazed at what some people who join groups like this are willing to do. I just learn from history so no promises but just keep your eyes peeled, that's all I'm sayin.

This should scare the snot out of everyone out there. This was tried before with the foundation of the American Legion. A paramilitary force who answered only to the President. Thank God it didn't turn out that way. Between this idea and the government partnerships with the corporations over the bailouts, welcome to the opening shots of fascism. Keep to the 2nd amendment, DO NOT register anything if you can avoid it. I hate that it's come down to that. But that's the country we live in now.

I'm sure we can name a couple times in history that the people were hurt because we have to register, Nazi Germany during Hitlers rise to power the Gastapo confascated countles firearms from innocent German citizens. That's just one event, lets not even get STARTED on Russia, and China.

I like this idea. This makes the country stronger against a potential invasion. Hugo Chavez did something similar in his country to thwart a possible American invasion. He created a civilian force that could organize, assemble, and fight off an invasion in the event that the military was knocked out.

what are u talking about? we have police all over the street right now. without them u will see more gang violence and drug dealers.
civilian police is a lot different from military police. i know the difference and preferred civilian police like the one we all currently have right now. we need to increase funding for training civilian law enforcers. civilian laws!!!!!!!!!
