There is a beautiful and constant, consistent truth in the words this man speaks. It compares with all the great compassionate words, thoughts, concepts of great human beings through out history. Always look for consistent concepts, ideas from all cultures, be it in metaphor or even exact examples to give you a clear path in your quest for truth, knowledge, wisdom.
Dr. Schweizer is very humble and hard working, and more importantly he devoted all his life helping others as well as other living things. His Jesus-like love and reverence for life last for ever.
merci à ce grand homme d Alsace , merci pour avoir été le pionnier de " l humanitaire " , et aussi comme grand protestant , un témoin de l Evangile et du Seigneur Jésus
He was a man who helped poor man. He never asked for money. He never asked for noble prize(well he got1). He wanted only one thing one thing only.....PEACE that we can't find if we still hating each other.
I am sure he was a remarkable man and i would like to see the new film about him, but i have to stand by my comments in an age where famous people are re-evaluated, I put him in the same league (almost) as General Gordon who was once a huge hero in Britain, but is now seen as no more than as self publicist!. It's only an opinion, Happy Christmas

He was just a European in an uncivilised Country...no more!..he was no Captain Cook or David Livingstone, just a normal average Doctor who was aware that he could achieve importance amonst ignorant people!
@rjun67 No doubt he had a lot more to offer to those in need (no matter what country or continent) than you and I combined...
Can you not recognize the benefits offered by someone that has dedicated their entire life to helping others, human and animals equally - just because it's the right thing to do????
Perhaps you should watch past Part 1 .....
You must have been raised a spoiled brat - and maybe I should be talking to your parents!
Such an amazing man! My father took goats over to him, that were a "gift" from (I believe) that Children of Cincinnati (or maybe they were a gift from the Zoo...not sure) I remember hearing his first hand accounts, see all the footage of the film he took while there, the pictures and the stories. :) Such an inspiration!!
In 1957, I bought a book by Dr Albert Schweitzer titled "On the Edge of the Primeval Forest".
Thank you for uploading this 8 part series on this saintly person. His books and your videos should be incorporated into the school curriculum, to remind the current generations that there are priorities in this world, other than fast food, cosmetic trivialties, and materistic iPhenomena.
Dr Schweitzer's work and legacy transcend boundaries. He had established the bar for us mere mortals to follow.
@ABYCYZ Wouldn't that be a nice change in our school system, I couldn't agree with you more. It seems there are a few generations lacking some basic human values and empathy for all living creatures.
@ABYCYZ I watched a documentary on UK tv about 20 years ago called 'Secret Lives' which questioned his motives as being..if you like...an average Dr in Europe who was aware that he could be seen as a unique white god in central Africa..I believe this. Any half educated person can be seen in this light in an uncivilised backwater..he was more than aware of Captain Cook and David Livingstone's legacy..but only took the GOD route an eye blink before that civilisation did reach africa!
We respect a lot of his humanity work in Africa. He loved our 'Thirukkural' book which was written 2000 years ago in Tamilnadu, India. He enjoyed about few poems in Thirukkural which is in Tamil language. By, Aravazhi, Tamilnadu, India
I think it was Churchill who called Schweitzer "a genius of hymanity" and an Amrican journalist called him the 13th apostle. Both statements are too poor to desribe this outstanding person.
while most are going to spend today complaining about Obama winning the Nobel, I doubt half know any of the great people like Schweitzer who have won the award years before.
"The African is like my brother, but my junior brother."

@rjun67 "no more"? Have you any idea what this great man freely, selflessly gave up to become "just a normal average doctor" in Africa?
