Perhaps Jesus was a Buddhist. Buddhism was 500 years old when Jesus was born. Many Christian ideas, rosary, prayer hands etc. are Buddhist BEFORE they were Christian. The Bible is a book written BY the religions of Abraham: Jews and Christians etc.
I think it is interesting that other spiritual ways accept each other but Christians have to 'save' everyone and say that if you don't believe their way you will go to hell.
@JodyWIanuzzi Tulkus being recognized , like monks will go and look for their reincarnated lamas has great parallels to the 3 great wise men. Some parts of Jesus life was not documented a big part, rumour is that he was in India and what religion was still flourishing then in India Buddhism.
reincarnation was a concept in the bible before a roman emperor removed it :)
do buddhist believe in Jesus Christ? they seem so modest, content, compassionate. and it would not be right, since the bible states that no one will go to heaven unless they believe in jesus christ. Just very confusing but i admire their simplicity of life.
@savvy1954 no, we don't. in fact, the buddhist religion existed before christianity. And you do not need to be christian to be compassionate. Anyone can be. compassionate and caring, regardless of religion.Stereotyping like this should be avoided, as it closes your mind. And the bible doesn't apply to anyone but the christians who believe it, so we are not worried about believing in jesus and going to heaven, as we wish to reach nirvana, and attain buddha-hood.
I love the symbolism of Bone Mala. It is particularly favored material for malas as it reminds one of impermanence and using it is a powerful reminder of our mortality so spiritual transformation comes faster.
I believe the Christian and Muslim rosary was probably adopted during the contact between the Islamic and Indic civilizations. From Islam, it has influenced the Christian probably during the middle ages and hence both Christian and Muslims have their own version of the mala too.
I saving my red coral mala for Tantric practice later! I hope i do get Vajrayogini practice later if I do get the practice. But at the moment I am using my usual tiger's eye mala. I love tiger's eye! I saw the 13th Dalai Lama using it and he looks great using it so I am copying his holiness.
I just bought a beautiful crystal mala from Kechara Paradise's fair in Penang's fair for a friend's birthday. Crystal mala was auspiciously offered by Lama Tsongkhapa's previous life to Buddha Shakyamuni to create the cause for what he did.
A crystal Mala was offered by one of Lama Tsongkhapa's previous life to Shakyamuni Buddha and it created the cause for him to become a Buddha himself and for the blessings of his teachings to liberate many others.
Well a Mala can mean a lot more when we actually use it to do real practice instead of just hanging it around our wrist or around our necks. Well hehehe, I am guilty of that. =)
Thanks for giving this profound teaching about Mala(Rosary), i do learn alot from here. I will buy more mala and chant more mantra to blow on it and offer to my friends, so they can get the blessing by holding the mala, and also hope the Dharma seed will be planted into their mind......
Didn't realise there's so much to learn about malas. Tsem Rinpoche is so eloquent with his explanations. I would like to attend Rinpoche's talks when I'm in KL.
Another fantastic talk by Rinpoche. He gives such a clear explanation of something we often take for granted...we never think about why our mala is important to us. He gives you answers to questions you always wanted to ask (like why 108? and why have a mala anyway).
AND, as though knowledge isn't enough ;), you also get humour all the way through. What more could you want? ;)
Hi premala! Thanks for the link, I visited their website and theres just so many contents in there that literally explained the foundation Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has set in Kechara House, an affiliate of the famous Gaden Monastery!
hi dharmaguy00, Ive been following Rinpoches teachings in youtube for quite some time now. You can visit kecharahouse(dot)com, I m very amazed what Rinpoche has done in Malaysia. This rinpoche is special hehe.
Wow! Now I know with mala alone there is so much to learn about. This Rinpoche is really cool. He has explained it so detailed and yet so easy to understand. Coupled with his humor in this video esp. in 4.11
I remember in one talk Rinpoche he said why objects become holy is because the beings holding/having those items have the altruistic mind which imbues the objects with their energy. Which means anyone can create holy items if they have bodhicitta.
Yes, all of Rinpoche's teachings are accurate because his lineage can be directly linked to Buddha Shakyamuni. If you check out his site tsemtulkuDOTcom, you can find out more about his background, lineage, gurus and activities. Plus, the Gaden Tripa (gelugpaDOTnet) wouldn't endorse someone not accurate ;)
the hand and fingers that is used to count the rosary beads is significant as well. Other than helping mantain awareness, they also help manipulate the subtle energies, or chi that will have direct effects. For example, using the index and thumb fingers will affect the chi that affects the brain, thus improving intelligence. neonlama(dot)com
A Mala, or a rosary is used for counting the amount of mantras that the practitioner has done. It has 108 beads for general practice and 112 beads for special purposes. The extra 8 beads is to make up for any excess or lack of mantras. Malas are a great thing to have because it helps in stabilizing energies in a certain area, especially those blessed by high lamas before. tsemtulku(dot)com
Why do you even need to mention if Rinpoche is gay or not. Why does that even cross your mind on a Dharma video?? Why dont you just focus on the teachings, absorb it and apply the teachings into your life and see how beneficial it is. Be mature and respectful. Dont bring unnecessary questions into something that is not the place for it. Can you do that please. Thanking you ahead.
maybe he's gay and would love to include Rinpoche in his fantasies. Either that or he's completely homophobic thinking that sexual orientation affects people. How sad and shallow.
It's not the cover that matters. It's always the contents.
H.E.Tsem Rinpoche took rebirth in Taipei, Taiwan where he was recognized as a Tulku at 7 months old, but his mom refused to let him go. Then taken to N.J.,USA. From Jersey, he left to California where he met his root guru H.H.Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, where Kyabje Zong Rinpoche re-recognized him again. In 1987 he left for Gaden in South,India where He was officially enthroned. In 1992,chosen by Lati Rinpoche to go to Malaysia where he went on and off to teach. He resides in Malaysia full time now.
this is wonderful to listen to, i only wish the sound was better, but i learned a lot and was reminded to maintain my own practice and make it stronger. though he mentioned a few things (words) unfamiliar to those of us who are not in malaysia i think (i.e. spirit harm, etc.)
The most important thing is to stick to your own practice rather than taking up new ones that you cannot commit to or practice to your full potential.
yes, it is important to maintain one's own practice...that's exactly what i'm trying to do, i have no intention of taking up new ones.
thanks. (though my point in my comment wasn't about that- just wish the sound was better and the words he mentioned that us non-malaysians don't understand.
I thought buddhists are open to all kinds of questions! of course it doesn't matter if he is gay.... but to me he seems gay - that is all! If he happens to be GAY, then it'll only emphazise how TOLERANT buddhism is...
He is a modern teacher and he also gives a lot of background information that rounds out the teachings nicely. For example, he explained the results of karma in such a clear and concise way that now Im really careful about what I do... I now believe it - because I could clearly see it.
I dont know what his preferences are in THAT respect. I'll never meet him, but I think he is a great teacher.
thank you so much...i hope that one day i can meet you...i'm a kagyu practitioner...but i have been busy/distracted with things in the ethereal world...that i have not practiced consistently for some time...thank you for awakening me further...you are such a blessing...i have been using my bro's you tube accout...tara dolkhar
