I love the book because of the characters' depth(well most of em) and how all the events of the past kind of just came into one meeting point. The book has the feel and the depiction of high school and what fitting in is all about. You don't ever fit in, that's the point. You have your friends and you enjoy em.
As a bibliophile, I've read books by several of the authors that SpadeAndArcherBand says are deeper and more meaningful, and agree that those authors touch on things more universal and mature. As a wallflower, none have touched me as deeply nor been as meaningful as Perks, nor have ever made me feel infinite.
@FilmNitrate hahahahahaha, oh god. I wrote that? That had to be very, very late or very early. I commit grammar crime once in a while. I like to think of myself as a crimininal, it gives me a good image.
This wasn't the best book i've ever read, but it was one of my top 5 and I have definitely read more than a few hundred in my lifetime..Maybe it isn't the pinnacle of good literature, but it has emotion and meaning in it. For me, that is the most important aspect of a good book, the fact that an author can capture emotion and put it into words, so you feel as if you are feeling everything the main character is. I guess it all comes down to a matter of taste. But that's my opinion(:
Perks of Being a Wallflower is a decent book. That said, the only people who think it's the greatest book they've ever read are not at all well-read (i.e. they read Twilight/hunger games or some other shit and then this book and, of course, think this book is better).
On a side note...the movie will probably suck. Logan Lerman (while he is sorta cute) cannot act, and Emma Watson can only act as Hermione. When she does other roles she still is stuck in the Hermione attitude.
@midnightwallflower What's wrong with that? People that read those books are fairly young. We aren't introduced to "good books", yet. But then again, maybe you're just some angry hipster.
Maybe i should figure out what the books about first? LOL Better acting that us recreating the Outsiders, though I must say, our death scene was 100x better than theirs.
...okay. i fucking love this book. but, why do they have to go on and Kill iit!?? is this for real?? mannnn just coz the "writers" are on strike doesnt mean they have to go on and fucking ruin the books!! Thats why their books!!!! for fucks sake! so people can make their own images in their head!!
Ok, the song "Great Romances of the 20th Century" would be great for a trailer of a true film adaptation of this book. Especially if, towards the end of the song they are flipping between black screen white print with "The perks of being ____" (Show dramatic sequence in movie) "The perks of being___" (Show....) and speed it up until it shows in black on white "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" with a little pencil flower shedding a leaf.
@BailleysoAbby If I'm not mistaken, the book is being adapted for the silver screen. The author himself is writing the script and directiing it, so maybe that's a good sign. The film won't stray too far from the book. I believe Logan Lerman is the only actor cast so far, as Charlie.
No offense, but I pictured Charlie to actually be more attractive, and to be shy and to have the voice of zac efron. and for his sister, to not have that weird voice. to sound more like rachel mcadams, otherwise, loved it.
stop being so rude, im sure you couldn't do better.
- everyone who's read it has probably gotten something different out of it. if you were to make a trailer of it, it would be different because you didn't see it with the same eyes as the person who made this video did. have an open mind to other peoples visions on the book.
this was absolutely awful. i wish people would stop making these because they're all horrible. by the way your acting sucks and you look nothing like how charlie is described.
Hey buddy you and your friends suck at acting... seriously. Also you don't look anything like charlie... You just don't look young enough... or pathetic enough... you're just forcing it... I can tell.
ayn rand, antoine de saint-exupery, tom robbins, kurt vonnegut, richard brautigan, jack kerouac, lawrence ferlenghetti, philip roth, william s. burroughs, j.d. salinger, franz kafka, leo tolstoy, daniel wallace, marcel proust, george orwell, all writers that have written something with ten times the depth and meaning that perks could ever have.
@SpadeAndArcherBand some books speak more to some then others. It's okay to have your opinion and I don't think people are saying that this is the only book they've found meaning in. Maybe it's the first book that really touched them, Maybe they haven't found any other book that has.
@SpadeAndArcherBand whoa! you can list a whole bunch of the highest rated(and some of those, the most over-rated) authors ever. if someone finds meaning in a book, or is comforted by the words of an author, good for them(and the author). also, rand has never written anything that I wouldn't use to start a fire.
@SpadeAndArcherBand I disagree. I've read a lot of those authors and I disagree. I was a wallflower and this is the first book that came anywhere close to an accurate picture of my high school experience. I think it's definitely for a certain type of reader, but it's the book which, in my opinion, comes the closest to real life out of all those that I've read.

Well, I thought that you did a great job in every aspect except the acting. In the "He could have talked to me" you should have been 'out of it,' crying and screaming. I guess that's asking a little much, though. Anyway, over all, you did a good job.
