@xITechMediaIx threads are want the pc uses to process data usually if u say had 4 cores that is 4 threads so the pc and programs have the extra cores / threads to depend on and use, not a lot of programs use the threads them selves more cores is a little better, the place where threads help over cores is gaming, Auto CAD things like that, but say if u r doing some thing that uses the cores u can go onto some thing else and the pc will go to the threads seen as there not being used..

What makes you think that Intel having more cores gives them the advantage? You got it twisted, AMD will have a 8 and 16 cores CPUs as well but Intel will have faster CPus clock per clock as they always had since Core 2 Duo. I'm not stating they will catch up, i'm actually HOPING they will so we can benefit from the competition.I wouldn't like any of them to win the war instead i'd like them to exchange places for the best performer each year.

All this ram stuff confuses me. All sites say supports 1366mhz ram. Will I have to downgrade my corsair dominator TR3X3G1600C8D? (it's at 1600mhz timed to 7-7-7-24) so is it no i7 980x with that memory combination?

all the Core I7's have a memory controller clocked at 1066mhz, but all kind of memory can work with that chip, people have even been using ram thats at like 2100mhz and thats over the double limit, the only thing u might have to do is set the timings your self, the cpu & board may set it to 1333mhz just up them to 1600 and correct the timings and every thing will work fine, good luck & Thanks for watching

I got a phenom 940 but if you really want the greatest for gaming just get i5 750 or i7 860 at most then just blast to it 4ghz and your set...there's no reason to go with the 920 or higher unless your running more than 1 monster video card...

Right now I've got the q6600 like a lot of people and I think I will either jump into the i9 or go for the next lineup, but not if the next line up uses a different socket because I don't want to spend another $300 on a new motherboard. If I remember correctly socket 775 dates back to intel Celeron so maybe that will be just before they release another socket type.

I have a 955 and have a 5850 on the way to replace my 4890. I'm all for price/performance. Hell, AMD's top line is 200 vs. 1000. Real world performance, and gaming is hard to separate. That's why Windows 7 chose ATI features for DX11.
