Whilst Martone and Batten are technically phenominal the tapping tricks and arpeggio excercises are lacking emotion and creativity . It's only really interesting from a technical standpoint. The equivalent of musical masterbation.
Zappa would have told them they're "Spooing again". I'd much rather listen to an improviation that goes somewhere musically. Holdsworth, Herring, Krantz, Henderson, Scofield, Freed et al are way more interesting IMHO.

My appreciation for Dave Martone is great, because his style is one that borders on Neo-Classical, Jazz and a little bit of Blues. If you listen to his other works, you'll notice that the smooth blend of tapping arpeggio's, rising arpeggio's and descending arpeggio's, along with the legato scaling within each of his songs, is simply soulful. You can't discredit his skill, because even in his slow playing it's absolutely beautiful. Regardless of using a mute band....

It's called atonal tapping, many people do it and when you have people that like to use jazz fusion scales the chromatics in the scales make it atonal many times. But you probably don't even know music theory lol
Y'know with all the complaints it's quite apparent that although people are willing to criticize "how" they are playing, they don't really comprehend "what" they are playing. The signficance lies in the harmonic content and how it relates to the rhythm track. Yes there is a rhythm "track" playing. The fact that they can play "in tune" to and in harmony with the rhythm and the fact that this is mostly improv. should be impressive.
Okay, first of all, music is expression NOT competition... who's better? It's like asking which color is better. The shallowness of your comments illuminates your lack of comprehension. dave martone is a dickhead, he soloed using the same tapping lick 70% of the time while batten squeezes in about 2 licks (which are way better than his)
