Now that is how you film a roller coaster ride. Straight a head at the tracks, not looking all over the place or other peoples faces. Great job. Thank you for making this video.
And it just might. I guess all good things have to come to an end eventually and roller coasters aren't exceptions. I'd be willing to bet it's got another 10+ years left in her though, our maintenance guys get the job done for the most part.
I didn't want to sound mean but ....i wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt either....it just yeah...i don't know the fact that it's wood.....and....the fact that it carries a ton of weight on it...i don't know...i just don't like watching people get hurt that's all..... they should make a new one it would be cool....sad to end a big tradition but...nice to have something new to begin with and it could be safer ...more beneficial..
Yeah I know what you mean. It would be hard for the park to get rid of what has become an Iowa national treasure though. Too bad there just isn't enough room to add another coaster, preferably of the steel variety.
Yeah..well it can stay standing but they shouldn't let people ride it when it's a bit older...they should plan on making another one later on ...because eventually the park will have to grow since the population will grow ..and especially in a place like okiboji ... i rode that roller coaster when i was in 2nd or 3rd grade...i almost cried the first time but i was like hey i liked that adrenaline feeling ...so i just kept going on it lol ..
@weirdkiddo142 Do you know how dumb you sound? Do you know anything about roller coasters? With a good maintenance team, a woodie can easily last over a century, and still be perfectly safe. Look at Coney Island's Cyclone. Built in the 1920s and still one of the best coasters in the world.
@jamesthemaniac Besides that, our maintenance guys are doing an awesome job (even though our most experienced guy up there retired this season). This season has been one of the smoothest working seasons I've experienced thus far.
@greiman23 Id love to get out there and ride that! Our pastor at our church moved here from Okoboji about five years ago, and her daughter tells stories about growing up at this park and on this coaster. Im so jealous.
@jamesthemaniac Easily one of the roughest coasters I've ever been on, for sure one of the true old school woodies. I think the only complaint people have is that it's a bit on the short side but then again during the week the park isn't so busy so you could easily squeeze in 150+ rides in an 9 hour day. You'd be lucky to ride a coaster in a big park more than 15-20 times in the entire day.
@greiman23 well some roller coasters are more than 100 years old. rolling thunder is pretty old and that one is definatly a ride that gives u the chills
I guess it all depends on your preference. If you want the better view and slightly less shaky ride then the front suits you.... if you want to be shook around like an unloved baby then the back is the best.
Well the reason I ask is because the park won't hire you unless you're 14 years old and it's been a long time since they've done that even. I want to say the youngest person I remember from last season was 15 and he got fired for not showing up to work. You might have to toss me a hint...
i live here im from arnolds park if you want to know anything about arnolds park amusment park ask me i worked there this summer i could tell you lots about the roller coaster and the other ride
Where in Arnold's Park was my question. Did you work games? I'm picking my brain trying to remember a 13 year old from Spencer named Shane to no avail. If you worked there last summer then you should remember me considering I was running the coaster 95% of the time.
I didn't mind that version of "The Legend" but comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges. If you like a speedy ride then Holiday World's version is your best bet, if you want the old school feel (meaning more airtime and shakiness) then this is the Legend for you. It's all about personal preference.
I was on that the first year I was tall enough (1987) and some drunk chick puked all over the back of our shirts. We ran into her again in the tipsy house, crawling up the ramps hugging the wall and sending her friend to see which ramp was real, and at the time you could look down over the railing in the tipsy house and see the 'coaster coaches as they launched, and damn if she didn't puke all over them!
Haha, there is nothing worse than a roller coaster puker. I actually had one this season already in the form of a 10 year old boy. It was kind of funny because the kid had been riding all day up to that point (at least 40 times) and all the sudden he threw up on the coaster deck then once again on the exit ramp. The new guy on grounds didn't know the procedure when it came to cleaning it so I had to help him out. The kid came back about 20 minutes later.... ready for more.
every year for fourth of july my whole entire moms side goes to okoboji and stays at the inn across the lake!!! we've been going since my great grampa's been 15!! it's awesome!
whose fault is that? You can only blame yourself for that? The employees follow very strict guidelines to make sure the public including you are SAFE.
its 80 years old and in the top ten oldest rollercoasters in the world, and frankly in my opinion, its the biggest hunk of crap i have ever ridden, the dork didnt even buckle me in good enough and i was fkin hanging out the side
Thats why everyone is free to buckle themselves in.... It's not our jobs to buckle people in unless they need help (kids, old people, physically challenged people for example). I can only assume you had to have fallen into one of those categories and if thats the case then it's your job to bring it to your ride operator's attention. I doubt it was me though because I take special pride with my job.
Well to tell the truth the bar never goes down all the way and locks completely. It always gives the rider a little slack so it doesn't smother them. But I apologize for your experience and if you're ever at the park and I just happen to be working then I might just hook you up with a free pass.
well everyone else seems to love this roller coaster. kinda seems like your the only one. and theres absolutely nothing wrong with the operator or the seat, its called being on a rollercoaster. suck it up and deal with it.
Yeah, people come to realize that the old wooden roller coasters are the best ones because of how physical they are with the passengers. You don't get that from those cushy steel coasters.
I don't think videos will ever do these old woodies justice. If you rode this ride, you'd think this coaster rocks. Because it does! You get airtime with almost every hill you experience on this coaster, and it is smooth for a wooden coaster. This is the coaster that never fails to get you wanting more when the train pulls into the station. You have to experience it to love it, and then you will always want to come back for more.
I agree with you. The video might not look good, but this old coaster is great fun. I've lived within 20 miles of arnold's park my entire life, and over the course of several decades, this coaster still provides lots of fun.
Finally Iowa's got something EXCITING for a change--an old coaster. Iowa mostly has nothing but corn, corn, corn, and more corn.
