  • Faramir? Mind is BLOWN.

  • Fuck this film !!!

  • isn't this only a legend?

  • @darkbluemars actually there are many proofs for her existence. like that they don´t use the street where she has born the baby anymore for this festival (there is actually a document that says they don´t use it because of pope joan) but nobody is sure. it´s more than a legend, though ^^ (if you read the book you will find some more interesting information a the back. ^^)

  • This movie is awesome!!!

And it teaches people a lot about goodness and humbleness.

Very very good, i really enjoyed this!

  • why isnt she white blonde? her hair color had a big significance in the book.....

  • is this really a true story?

  • Comment removed

  • When are they going to release in the U.S.? I don't think my new Blu-Ray will play region 2 DVDs.

  • @Catracks3 They're still working on it.

  • Its just a dumb myth!

  • @LVCIVSDEI we are not sure about that yet the Vatican burns documents which they think embarrass them.

  • @johnnyisachampion

    Perhaps.

A women as a pope is that that bad......

She would still teach catholic dogma so..........

  • I really had high expactations of this film, I guess they ruined my good opinion of it. I love the book too much to be able to like this film.

  • @MusicOwnsTheWorld a book is ALWAYS better than the film...

  • @xXxXLoveMetalxXx Ha, yea I know... I didn't say that I expected the film to be better than the book. How could it be? I never have THAT high expectations of films....

  • @MusicOwnsTheWorld i´m watching now the film, but yeah, i had high expectations of it too, but it's dissapointing me a bit :/

  • I have uploaded the 1972 version of this movie.

  • This movie is great and touching. I think I'm lucky to be born in this century.

  • At 0:22, it says this is "a true story". Actually it was a fable that was commonly believed for about 2 centuries.

  • BUT THE MOVIE FROM EBAY ( U MIGHT NEED AN ALL REGION DVD PLAYER)

------THE BOOK YOU CAN BUY FROM YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK STORE ...

  • Its ok to make a movie about a myth,after all,pope joan is only that...a myth,not a truth

  • I believe she existed, just like King Arthur and Merlin.

    LOL....

  • @arnolddao aha aha ah lol clever comment

  • Poor Pope Benedikt XVI, his flock frankly and cynically flout at Christianity. Feminism here more then Christianity.

  • I've read the book and just seen the movie.

You need to know your history to understand this story.

If you know that the position in this very dark and christian period was not good for being a woman, her brain was just as big as her woomb. Reading and writing was not allowed it was blasfemia. So many women disguised them as a man to have the chance to study. it is nog all through what has been mentioned in the book so please interpretation as a romantic and historical story. But it is great.

  • I am just reading the book at the moment, haven's seen film yet. It's quite scary and tense...no wonder that time is called Dark ages, so many horrible things were happening...

  • @AstiPasta Where they really happening or did the book just make them up? Were you really there? Think for yourself!

  • I want to see it!!!

  • omg i really wanna see that now!

  • amazing movie <3

  • what is the reflection of this movie?? pls answer. need it badly tnx!

  • @JBWKZ12345 I'm not sure what you're asking. Reflection?

  • @JBWKZ12345 Maybe you mean the moral? If that's what you mean, I think there isn't any. I liked the movie, the main character does sort of a spiritual journey and she ends up being the pope... I liked it, but you have to know how to appreciate it...

  • This movie did not release in Italy. Fuck off Vatican!!!

  • @deepenhancer i think it's coming out in these days in italy

  • it depends where you're from.

  • will i be able to get this movie in canada or do i have to order it from europe

  • Just finished this book.

    So good!!

  • Which one?

  • Pope Joan.

  • @OlgaGreece Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross, the book this movie is based on :)

  • @kaferchic Actually the book is Greek....It was published in 1866 by a Greek author Emanouil Roidis.....And noone seems to know that......

  • @OlgaGreece Well, on the trailer it says the movie is based on Donna Woolfolk Cross's book.

  • @kaferchic That's what makes me wonder and also angry....This chick shows up a hundred and something years later and says she has written the book.....Which is A COPY of the Greek......I don't get it........

  • @OlgaGreece I would say it's really just her take on the story. It's not like Roidis just made up the whole thing; Pope Joan comes from legend. His book is also more of a comedy while Cross's is very serious. The beginning of her book is also very different from his, which is because Joan didn't really "step into history" until she reached Rome. So, everything in their books that is before Rome is their own story. Cross did her research for the book; she didn't just copy his book.

  • @kaferchic yeah ryt..its just a legend!!!

  • nice!i suggest the book of emmanuel rhoides(greek writer 19th century).

  • Are there any funny moments in this film? because i have a feeling that this movie looks so serious.

  • It is a serious movie - the setting is during the Dark Ages. Not exactly a funny time for many who lived through those years

  • But I'm sure they have some humorous concepts here and there

  • I must see this film! The book is brilliant. I do not think that the film (or films, to be more correct, since there now are two) is as good as the book. the films can't be even near the book's brilliance. I must see the films... or I'll get crazy. the book is like a drug to me.

  • omg this movie is so fuckin damn amazing! i watched it (im german) 2 weeks after the premiere.. so EPIC! *_______* just epic...

  • really?!?! OMG!!! i want to SEE it!!!

  • jep, you're right...just the kind of movie you can watch again and again, and it never gets boring!

but one thing....i tought i was in the false movie when i first saw Gerolt! doesn't David Wenham look like still being Faramir of LoTR ?! XDD

but i think i like him more as Gerolt than as Faramir :DD

  • haha yes! mh i like him as faramir more :D i donno, i think gerold is a bit "strange"... can't say why but... :D:D:D:

  • @jfhzo

    *g* strange? ^^

i think it's pitty that he dies in the end...(but somehow it served him rightXD-he's just too stupid running into the trap...i mean, shouldn't one become suspicious way earlier?? :P)

well i liked him or let's say Faramir before he decided to marry Eowyn ....i hate her *jealous* ;DD

^^ i sympathize with Joan much more than with Eowyn, she fits well to this Faramir- hybrid ;DD

  • hell yes! i though: "oh no, now he's geting killed" and booooooom - dead. so stupid :D i hate eowyn also... she's so girlie-girl-like :D (in german we say: pussy, but thats in english another meaning :D) mh i think joans hair cut (tonsur - in german :P) is really ugly. :D:D

  • I am looking for a download but I cannot find it does anybody can give me a link?

  • cool story bro.

  • how hard is it to dye your hair? her hair is supposed to be white blond. . . it's her only feminine feature in the novel.

  • This book was NOT from Donna Woolfolk Cross. This book was writen by a Greek writer, Emmanouil Roidis and published in 1866! So, it is a copy from the original!

  • I also wrote Gone with the Wind. Margaret Mitchell stole it. Lol! It does not matter. There were also many books about Marilyn MOnroe. Its always the same story just by another writer. And the legend of Joan existed also before Ms. Cross wrote it as a novel

  • I agree with these. Besides, in the 19th century, did not exist the intellectual rights.... Surely, this story, is real. As reality can be a history that passed from the 9th century up to the moment where it wrote in the 19th century by Emmanouil Roidis...

  • "A true story" ROTFL

  • The movie was originally shot in English then dubbed into German.

So there is really no need for English subtitles.

  • i was at the premiere bitchz!

  • lol u fail

  • uhhhh noo u fail! sheise wessie!

  • learn to spell and I might be bothered to read your gibberish next time.

  • i dont have a german keyboard dumbass and if u actually care about spelling get off the internet! LOL! its not a place for old pple.

  • Well, it's a myth that really existed. The reality, of course, is unfounded.

Still, it will be interesting, I imagine.

  • Jesus, how good does David Wenham look here?

  • Do you really believe that she exsisted?

  • I ment I do believe she exsisted, but I wanna to hear your options......

  • it's a german movie, that's why.

it was filmed in english though.

  • I'm very glad I didn't remember the trailer when watching the film!

  • Great film - Bad Trailer

  • also, it will be release in the U.S. not in german witth subtitles but in english. i read it in desicated coconut

  • omg thanyou!! thank you thank you thank you!!!! This movie is actually in english but i hae no idea why its dubbed in german

  • I think it's because the movie is a German/US co-production... Johanna Wokalek who plays Joan is German. That's a good idea IMO as the real Joan was German, too (or at least lived where today is Germany ^.^).

But still they could have released an English trailer, too - wouldn't have been that hard if they filmed it in English...

  • Jeanne d'Arc. She was french.

  • Ardenis? Take some history lessons, darling. Jeanne d'Arc is NOT Johanna von Ingelheim. XD

  • OK, sry, my mistake... I'm not that interested in the whole thing anyway, but you're right than I guess...

  • I wonder why this trailer is dubbed in German - when it very obvious the actors aren't even speaking in German?!?!

  • The film has no US release date. Yes, it was filmed in English, but right now there's no English trailer. This is my way of trying to generate interested from the US fans. :)

  • @bennjr

yes, it is 2 years after your comment :)

the trailer is dubbed in german because it is a german production

  • Awesome! I hope there'll be an US release!

  • Wow! Fabulous! I can't wait to see it.
