And and I've been wondering about the foggy white thing you scrubbed all over the place after you made the strips in the background...what is that substance?
My teacher always says not to work with square brush and to wash all the colours with water(not to have streight edges) when painting in watercolour. I see you have streight edges but still looks cool! Nice video
Wow, watching this made me want to sit down and paint! Thanks for sharing, and you have a wonderful style; a satisfying mix of spontaneity and detail.
wet into wet can accomplish that. he is not really employing that technique however. those r just very light flat and graded washes. basically leave the background light and abstract , then sharpen and make darker as u move into foreground. wet into wet is simply wetting the paper and then dropping paint into that area and the paint disperses in a very interesting and abstract way. experiment with it.
I believe he used guauche. He let the painting completely dry . Then (but it doesn't show in the video) sprayed the painting or the part of the painting with a fine mist and brushed the guauche all over and feathered it with the 3" hake brush where so as to not show any hard edges. You have to make sure the brush is dry at all times.
Great job, John. Please upload more videos of you painting. I enjoy painting wet-on-wet in water-colour and would like to learn more about mixed techniques, both in water-colour and acrylics.
John Lovett, I just started painting with watercolor and somehow I tripped upon your book for beginners. My 10 year old son and I have become avid fans and though I know it's important to find our own styles we are really in awe of your work. We'll be ordering your DVD soon. This video was fantastic!!!
first it was like a mess.. but when it finished. damn! an awesome painting pops!
