Was just looking on ur new site and saw this. Just want to make one correction. The feet when you put together the legs you have to put the feet on first before the lower armor so that it will be locked in place. The way you did it in the video will let the feet fall off.
RX-78 was my dream toy when I was five (I didn't know it was a model kit back then) and 18 years later I bought this kit for my first MG. It's completed and I can't stop watching him standing on my bookshelf.
I just now finished assembling the GM 2.0. I recommend it for anybody who is willing to spend less money and get less accessories. no corefighter, simpler armor panels(shins and skirts), no javelin, no hammer, simpler gun, and a GM head. i love it, but I do love the grunt suits.
Now that I revisit this kit, I really look the classic look is just very iconic and retro. Really love this kit so since there probably won't be a MG nataku for a while, I will go ahead and make this my next kit then follow it with Char's custom Zaku (planning matte finish with flat coat).
I think that they reused this kit as the basis for the Full Armor Gundam. Even the core fighter is the same. It seems to me that the FA is the same model as this but with extra armor and different weapon.
Transformers can learn from this? That is just an automorph. I know that this vid is a bit old, but there were tons of 2007 movie and 2009 revenge of the fallen figures with automorph. Though I would agree with you that the pushing in of the core fighter nosecone is a very novel idea for the transformers line. I agree with you in the end.
I think you're dead wrong about the proportions. MG Gundam isn't really anime-proportioned - it's much too slim and flat in the belly and chest. The anime itself is horribly inconsistent, of course, but generally the original Gundam had kind of a puffed-up "mighty chest".
Apart from the head and shoulders MG Nu is pretty much dead on.
I assume therefore you are excusing the v2.0 proportions because you assume they are accurate, and criticizing the Nu's proportions because you don't like them...
i just bought mine yesterday. i was planning to buy the 1/48 Mega Size RX-78-2 because of its massive size. i hope i am not disappointed about the MG RX-78-2 Ver2.0 despite its smaller size.
Hey rrobbert284, what do you suggest I use to put the weathering effects on my gundam? One that is erasable though and I want to match the brownish color from the MG box's art. ^_^
for those who don't like the retro look and prefer the o.y.w. panel lines but want the articulation. just grab the rx-78 30th anniversary and scribe those panel lines in, since it has the retro look of 2.0 but in 1/144 obviously.
@Salamalion98 I usually go over them with a marker. so i use lining markers for dark colors, or a real touch marker for red, green, blue, etc. hides it fairly well, although there's much better pro ways to do it.
salamalion98, leave 2-3mm off when cutting from the tree. then with a hobbyknife, slowly cut the protruding nub layer by layer. when you're as close as you can get to the actual piece itself, scratch it with your fingernails. it will magically blend in the plastic in the area the nub was on. trust me. i don't paint any of my kits save for a few touch ups and it works out pretty well. =D
Just watched through all 4 parts and I think your reviews are the best around. Bandai should be paying you for this kind of publicity!
Oh and just one thing. You demonstrated that the shield plugs directly into the back of the gundam, but the box shows that it can plug into the backpack. Is that possible?
maaaaan i cant wait till i get this this will work good with my gundam ver1.5 i cant stop thinking about RX-78-2 Gundam ROCKZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man after seeing this I just might get it(if it is still available) this rocks and I hope in the near future bandai amkes a ton of Master Grades like this especialy the V gundams they need it but I'll hope for a Guntank and cannon.
Hi rrobbert184, love your videos, your reviews are probably the best ones on youtube. I assume you live in Japan because all the paint bottles have yen stickers on them etc? I'd like to see a PG-model review from you, have you thought about getting any? Oh and you pretty much sold one Gundam Ver 2.0 with this review, gonna pick this up after finishing my current models : ) Keep up the awesome job!
just letting you know, the gundams from char's counter attack are bigger in comparison to the others because their design was based off the psycho gundam so its in proportion
Hey man, just wanted to say tha I love your videos! I've got a request/question for ya. Do you have the MG Shining Gundam and if so could you review it? Again awesome work with you videos.
IMO the back ankle armor and angle guards were terrible on this. Had nothing but trouble with those two parts. But other than that, it is awesome. The iner frame is extremely fun to pose and fool around with.
best in technical aspects, ugly as fu*k....i liked the anime, but as i've said to a mate, unless they make one that flies on its own (RX-78-2 that is), i wont ever buy it. coz it's so over done, and everytime i look at it, i get reminded of exactly how many RX-78-2 there are...i hope they use this amazing inner frame technology to build other gundams who are deserving of proper MG treatment...
