Marty is the man, but he's doing this wrong. In reggae and ska, always play on the upstroke, not the downstroke. There is a difference and you can hear it when it's done properly. Also, playing on the upstroke makes it a lot easier to get that nice bite on reggae riffs and makes it easier to stay on rhythm.

About the only thing Sublime (or any of its clones, e.g. Strictly Stoopid, the Excrementables etc) has in common with actual W. Indian reggae is the skank guitar. The rest is strictly party-rock.
