I had a DE1103, replaced it with a PL-660. The 660 has more selectivity and less overload from mw stations on lw. I need to make an lw antenna like yours.
I got a G6 a fefw months ago when they were on sale for $58 at Ratshack. Ive been looking for a good simple antenna for it. I've got a spare air variable lying around. I'll give it a shot.
Works great with Quantum Loop. From Phx, AZ, copied SYF-St. Francis, KS, which runs 50 watts, as well as other NDB's. Can hear RYN-338 kHz groundwave from over 120 miles away.
@iw3fzq okay, my bad, just watched the video, the atenna looks like it's been taking/broken off, a radio signal will bounce around to any cunducting or reflective material, this includes anything metal, such as screws, girders, Pipes/Plumbing you don't have to touch them either
For SW can use insulated wire & alligator clip1)before you connect the clip to the whip antenna ground it to discharge static electricity to protect the receiver 2)try different lengths and place as much outdoors as possible. Best length for a given freq = 234/f MHz, ie for 10MHz the antenna would be 23 ft long or3) dipole of two (23 ft) wires; coax cable braid soldered to one wire & coax center conductor soldered to other wire, plug on end of cable to ANT socket, center wire to tip, braid gound
This radio is very good for listening to SSB ham radio voice ('phone' mode), you can get the tuning just right for voice. For weather fax and SSTV, it's kind of hard to get the frequency right, though I suppose you can use Audacity and Sine:Oscillator.Frequency:Control.Amplitude:Audio to re-tune it if you recorded the fax with the wrong frequency. This radio is hard of hearing below 3 megahertz, and the 70 foot wire out in the forest doesn't help on the G6 as it did on the G5.
I got a G6 this Christmas and the LW reception is poor unless I use a loop antenna. I have a loop antenna that uses a LW coupler, and also will be using a KA-35 to experiment with. I will find a hula hoop at the dollar store and build a loop soon a possible.
Yes, the G6 is a little deaf below 3MHz! By the way, if you connect an external antenna to the G6 in the winter, ground the antenna and yourself first to drain the static electricity. Otherwise you could damage the receiver. The inductive-coupled loop will be safe enough, but even if you have a static charge (walking on carpet in a dry room for example) the discharge via spark to the whip antenna can be enough to damage the front-end. 73, NG9D
Are there any other loop antennas that would be good for the Grundig G6? I have a coupler if you have seen the video from my profile, and the coupler uses a loop antenna that is untuned. What is the best way to get DX LW reception from overseas in the East Coast with the G6?

After tuning, the improvement is very impressive.

What is the variable cap you are using and where can I get one? Thanks

How is connected the variable capacitor to the coil? 73 de Enrico, IW3FZQ

IW3FZQ -- Hi Enrico.
The loop + cap are connected in parallel.
Thanks and 73 DE NG9D Lynn

most grundig radios have a 3.5mm plug hole for an external antenna

Just got a G6 and really enjoying..Haven't tried LW beacons, but SSB ham QSOs are great with just the whip.

Hey, dude, what kind of good homemade SW antenna would you recommend me for a SONY ICF-SW7600GR?

I am planning getting that radio. Thank god that it only costs $100. Good loop antenna design there.
