How is appreciation for anything shallow? gifts, talent, music, etc. How is appreciation of any of these things shallow? Since appreciation takes compasion and likeness I don't see at all how any appreciation could be shallow. If you truely believe that these people are shallow and lost for liking this music, than you are a "shallow" personality.
hi - yes i've seen juan play live here in uk - he was ok. i can't say he was fab cos i thought he wasn't. he lacked so much that a true flamenco player has. this tune incoporating the amount of wild tapping on the soundboard is just a way for juan to create a unique style of his own and nothing more. I totally agree with vincent paco IS much better and even he doesnt need to do all the tapping to sell his music. Juan definately lacks passion

Why don't you skeptics quit griping and complaining? Go somewhere else. I see the same comments on all of his videos. Do you get paid by the word to trash this guy? He is pretty damned good, and I don't care what some purist in Andalucia says (remember, Segovia regularly trashed all guitar playing but the purest classical) and just let the rest of us enjoy the music!
Spanish the JUan way: just put an 'h' before every word, example: "h-he's h-a h-from h-Andalucia.." though on wikipedia it states Juan's nationality is a closely guarded secret especially by Juan himself..if he's SPanish-Andalucian why does he keep this secret? because he's not is the logical answer, his accent belongs on Fawltey Towers and his playing wouldn;t go amiss there either..

Came by this by chance. I'm a semi-professional, half spanish Flamenco guitarist living in Andalucia. Every guitarist I've ever met down there (and I'm, talking big names), just laugh and shrug their shoulders if you mention his name. Strange, I've never seen his name mentioned anywhere at any festivales, he's never won any premio, and yet he claims to be one of the best guitarists in the world. Go for it Juan or is it John? :)

Where does he claim that? I've never heard him make any such claims....some of his fans however, that's another matter.
I do agree that there are a lot better guitarists around, but he still plays a lot better than me.
