I saw these guys live on the Cool Tour with bands like Blessthefall, As I Lay Dying, and Underoath. These guys were easily the best musicians, but I like a little singing in my music. I have yet to come across a song other than this one where there is actually singing (I haven't looked hardly at all though), was hoping someone could let me know if they do sing in anything they do or if it straight screaming? I love As I lay Dying and Blessthefall, so I'm not asking for straight singing.
@jgp1322 "Sun of Nothing", "Foam Born (a) The Backtrack", and "White Walls" (at least) from Colors have singing. Pretty much every song from The Great Misdirect does. Bits and pieces on Alaska and tracks 4-7 on The Silent Circus do as well. Just a few examples to check out. BTBAM used to be my favorite of all time in high school and still hands down my favorite metal band. Highly, highly recommend TGM...and Colors...and the other 3 albums.
Imm seein em on the 15th on Long Island at the Crazy Donkey on the 15th!!!!!!!! I hope they play some of this there.. Last I saw em they played most of The Great Misdirect but they DIDNT PLAY SWIM TO THE MOON :/ I hope I get to hear it live
It is really satisfying, I hope they don't fuck up later in the process because many bands disappointed me with their last records, from that style of music of course.
Still, BTBAM are crazy and I really dig their new sound, but this really is some kind of mash up of BTBAM record and TGM, which is great.
does anyone else sense that this song has more "Tommy" in it? by that, i dont mean simply more singing parts, but it seems like he directed this song and its overall structure more. tell me what you think
I miss the old melodic BTBAM parts. You know with the great guitar harmony as Selkies, the end of Mordecai and Ad a Dglgmut, parts of Ants of the Sky, the end of White Walls... I dont know what to think about the new BTBAM, TGM and this 6 min, I mean, too many parts make no sense, too much dissonance, I really dont know...
@XxQCGHxX sounds like somebody only listens to BTBAM for the "catchy" parts and disregards the actual musical perfection they pull off on this EP.
Also, you must have not listened to TGM or Parallax in its entirety, because there are MORE parts like that, and 10x better. This EP will blow your fucking mind, go to metalsucks (dot)net and listen to the whole thing streaming.
@LANDofCONFUSION Don't get me wrong, I enjoy every second of these 6:44, and I actually have TGM. I like it, but not more. I think its not that much compared to Colors or Alaska. And its not because I said I liked the melodic parts that I didnt like the heavier parts. I love mordecai, ad a dglgmut and many more. I just think the heavier parts in the new BTBAM (TGM and this EP) are way too dissonant. Still, as a musician, I know these guys are genius, and I will def. buy this EP...
@LANDofCONFUSION I just listened to the whole Ep. It's good but it didn't change my mind. And even though you said there was more of these parts, and 10x better, I couldnt find them. If you could direct me to a time marker of the 3 songs I'd be damn happy. To me, its better and more original version of TGM, which is far from Colors awesomness...
@mitchellolol It's an EP but it's 30 minutes long. So it's pretty long as far as EP's go. But since this album is like the first of two "parts", so to speak, I'm sure it won't take very long after this is out that they'll release the second part. Just a guess though.
@tuffthumbz Symphony X is pretty good if you like Progressive Symphonic Metal. I recommend anything in V: The New Mythology Suite album, or Paradise Lost.
@wombat989 as a musician I understand and can appreciate the instrumental music as all of my music is also instrumental because I am horrendous at vocals =/ but nothing gives great music the perfect edge like the perfect vocals to bring them to you full force ya know? I know of songs that are truly epic and great even without vocals but then you add them in and it becomes something so much more immense... I can never really explain it.
@wombat989 also vocals can be a double edged sword... vocals can just as easily take away from amazing music if they are not good/ not the right style to bring the music out. You have to be careful when adding vocals to music that is stand alone amazing. Example of vocals I think take away from great music... EMMURE, DREAM THEATER would both do much better off with different vocalists. I know dream theaters vocalist is AMAZING but I am not a fan =/ and it kills their sound for me.
@SintheticEmpire Protest the Hero also illustrates that point. I enjoy Rody's vocals, personally, but I know some people who want to stab me every time I listen to PTH because of Rody alone.
Holy shit man. I've got everything except "The Anatomy of". Saw them in January last year, along with Cynic, DTP and Scale the Summit. Best show I've been to. It's a first day buy for me. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure BTBAM won't take this out, after all, it's obviously done with good intents. Rock on~
I liked the part from 0:01 to 6:44

@jgp1322 They didn't sing at all at the concert either...
jgp1322 4 months ago
@jgp1322 Very very rarely, and never more than as a flourish. They were a dedicated death metal band before Colors, where they got a lot more proggy.

Nowhere near as good as BtBAM though.

Dude are you serious?
your comparing two COMPLETELY different bands here!
Symphony X have and awesome guitarist but its absolutely nothing like BTBAM in style terms
Plus the vocals in Symphony X are perhaps the furthest from BTBAM as you can get....
Just... a horrible band.
Derienzo 11 months ago
@Derienzo I know it's absolutely nothing like btbam, but I was recommending it, as it's a prog metal band.
I was serious when I said "Nowhere near as good as BtBAM though."

@tuffthumbz Scale the Summit Or Animals as Leaders. Both instrumental, but both epic and similar to BTBAM
