STOP DOWNLOADING! Bands deserve to get paid. It doesn't make them "sellouts"..If your boss doesn't pay you for your job at Mc d's you are getting ripped off like downloaders rip off bands.Cool bands cant recoup costs from their labels and are getting dropped. We will be stuck with GaGa and Beiber cuz 12 yr olds pay for music more than "indie" kids do. It is also compromising the state of the internet. It's a human problem not a music problem.Give something back to music and the net.
@valentino0214 You assume people make music only for money. You also assume bands make a dime from their actual songs and cds, and not from concerts and tours. In other words your a bit presumptive.
@maniswil2 I am signed with a label, all my friends are singed with labels,Major and indie.I am not assuming anything.I make 50% of album sale royalties.Labels take over 50% of shows and merchandise.Did you know that?Or are you being a bit presumptuous? Dont make excuses, new indie bands are not getting the chance they deserve because of people like you.In other words you're a bit of an idiot.
@valentino0214 Actually I was being a bit presumptuous in thinking about being signed, especially to a major label. I can't help that, I'm going on the idea the band is self-promoting and taking an independent approach to being a band and not relying on the hand of big business. However once again --I remind you people get into music because they want to be musicians. Also the best way for your bands music to get out is allowing people to have it for free. Unless you want to be Metallica.
@maniswil2 That was a more productive point you have made.Let me enlighten you on how it hurts artists in my opinion. It stifles the option to work with and take time with a studio and Mic drums/amps, get natural reverbs and good takes and soooooo much more because there aren't any funds.I want bands to sound like Marvin Gaye,T.Rex,Beatles etc etc again. It's cool that we get creative on our ipads but it's not cool that we cant benefit from generations of studio techniques.
im sorry but i dont think ill ever be cool enough to enjoy the song remember off this album. is this actually accepted as genuine music? i honestly dont know i am completely ignorant to the subject pleeease enlighten me.
Definitely not an easy listening album. The beauty is within the deep complex sounds and loops. Your review was great, you put words to my thoughts, and I thank you for that. Such a great album.
He barely just 'saunters into the field of sample based music' he's been using samples in his work for ages. If anything he's stepping back into an old field of his and - particularly his project as Chuck Person. His 'eccojams' being entirely loop based experiments. (they're all on youtube to check out) To me he's more taking his current OPN stlye and using the eccojam approach to get this new sound.
Just got around to listening to this. Definitely picked up on the influences you mentioned in the review. Love the samples used here, but so intriguing that it also took a bit to get comfortable with them. It's the kind of record I discover late into the night and it's not until sunrise that I can really "see" its merits and potential. Great review!
@ smokyp3nguin... first, i think if yr going to review shit, then perhaps set yrself apart by reviewing music that isn't anywhere. why not break new bands? also homophobia? you mad brah? all of my friends are gay, but this isn't some pc pissing contest. & it's the internet, we're welcome everywhere. fuck off asshole.
@yearfuture Wow, seems like a faulty argument because most of what he reviews has never been on pitchfork. But of course a better question is: who the fuck cares? Take your homophobia elsewhere, you're not welcome here.

whenever i listen to your album reviews i put the album on grooveshark and listen to you narrate over it. Needledrop is my number one currently for finding new music.
How many listens did it take for you to 'break'/'get'/love this album, I'm on about my 5th or 6th listen and it still isn't quite resonating with me yet. I'm enjoying parts of it, but just not loving all of it, so I was wondering how many listens you had to reach before you finally loved this album?
You should review the Prurient album, Bermuda Drain. It's hella angsty in an embarrassing way but its got this noise-goes-pop thing going on and its so charming.
After watching this I am even more excited to listen to it again, listened to it lightly sort of skimmed through it and thought it was amazing, it definitely showed a lot of range sonically, the samples are too much at times but still amazing. Hope you can review the sigur ros album.
I streamed this yesterday morning. It was pretty dang good. I enjoyed it a lot. Some memorable and interesting samples and loops. Thank you music nerd.
Thank you for reviewing this! I agreed with your review in that initially the samples, and the rhythms they created seemed distracting, but ultimately that's what made this album unique and interesting. Thanks!
Hey Theneedledrop, I think you should review Trapped Under Ice's new record, Big Kiss Goodnight. Its release caused a major buzz in hardcore, and I think it would be interesting to hear your take on contemporary hardcore bands (I am thinking specifically of Rotting Out, Trapped Under Ice, Take Offense, etc). I noticed you seemed like a fan of some hardcore (props to your enjoyment of "Rise Above" on the Death Grips review) and I think your opinion would be welcomed. Think about it. Thanks!
Hey anthony, love to know your opinion on Owen's new short LP, Ghost Town. The lingering, and simple yet haunting sounds of the guitars and xylophones are pleasure to listen to. I suggest you try it! Also I am listening to increasingly more indie music, and I was wondering what your favorite Animal Collective songs were! Thanks and keep nerding, we love you!
I'm streaming the album right now, thanks to your wonderful review which I paused to listen to the album. I have to say it kind of reminds me of Animal Collective.
All I can say is wow, this album is amazing! I loved OPN the first time I heard him, and surprisingly, YourWrongImRight reviewed his previous album and got me hooked to this beautiful music. This is an awsome album and one that will be in my collection, thanks for the review Anthony :-)
AF, I'm a little late on this, but amoung all my purchases this year an electronic EP album struck me. MILES - Facets. It came out last summer, you should have a try...
if you listened to chuck person's eccojams this wouldn't be new to you. i like this album a lot, but eccojams really took the idea of making samples into songs to a much crazier level.
Best thing OPN has done so far by a long shot, IMO (though I'm also quite enamoured with Channel Pressure). Personally, I feel this album seems stranger, more interesting, and leads me on some sort of journey more than the sleepy synths of his older stuff.

To tell you the truth i think we are in need of a review that will upset some people.Just like the Disma's album Towards The Megalith.
I really enjoy this album, the different layers of samples on certain songs are great, but I don't enjoy the more synth driven songs quite as much. You can tell how much care was spent into creating these songs though.
