@TheGzeus: Wire did indeed sue on grounds of plagerism, and they strangely won the case (or it was at least settled out of court). I heard that a few other bands including The Stranglers had a go as well. Those peshy nit-pickers!
@TheGzeus: sorry, the subtle attempt at humour must have been a little too subtle. Yeah, they ripped off Wire, and The Stranglers, and drew more than a little inspiration from Blondie, Chrissie Hynde, The Flying Lizards and the entire 1980s New Wave pop scene... but they were what 'Britpop' was all about: a band that was brash, arrogant and not afraid to look to the past for inspiration.Oh heah, and they were indeed pretty cool.
@TheGzeus: I'm not doubting that Wire were (and indeed still are) cool, and before you ask, I am a fan. Yes, Elastica took quite a few liberties with their blatant noise piracy, but the outcome of their actions meant that Wire received a much-deserved push into the mainstream music spotlight again, giving people who had never heard of them before the chance to listen... and that pop music was once again fun.
@TheGzeus: oh, and thanks for telling me that I'm not a funny guy. Luckily, I've never tried stand-up comedy... what a bad career move that would be. Could you give me a few tips? How about starting with a whimsical name for my account that suggests me to be both the second Christian Holy Trinity and the 'father of Gods and men' all rolled into one? That'll have them rolling in the aisles.
@TheGzeus: I though Eddie's heart pumped not bled. Damn. Now you've made me reply, which I was trying to put behind me.
Getting back to the matter at hand, it would have been far easier to do a cover or indeed ask for permission beforehand. At least they credited Wire for their 'inspiration' while they ripped-off riffs all over the place for their second album.

@JackOfferlott A lot of bands from the '90s pretty much blew. We need a return to ballsy hard rock and metal. Thankfully there are some bands like that.

@atomicbleep Wire was cool.
This is just watered-down and weak.
It's not that I didn't get that you were trying to be funny, it's just that 'trying' does not equal 'being'.

@atomicbleep Well, they should have just covered the song and/or paid them up front.

@rwilli1228 isn't that kind of stereotyping? Either way they're super hot and talented. I don't really see why it would matter.

They were pretty big for a hot minute. Thank God the alternative era died out pretty quickly. The whole thing pretty much sucked.
