hi, i'm loving this corvette. i have a question though. you responded to someone else on here that the motor is an ls7, is that the motor from the new c6 z06? if so i'm very impressed with what you've done to the car. It sounds insanely awesome.
@MrMurphy1025 LS7 block, Callies Dragon Slayer crank, Manley rods, Wiseco LS7 pistons, LS7 valves, ported LS7 heads, LS7 intake, 103mm MAF, 100mm throttle body, Katech World Challenge cam (580rwhp) or custom .700 lift cam (600rwhp), DeWitts radiator and DeWitts oil cooler, Turn One Power Steering pump, Kooks 1 78" long tube headers, Kooks 3" mid pipes, no cats and either 3' straight pipe or stock C5 Titanium mufflers. Custom tuning and a ton of money ... none of which will be recouped LOL ;)
@RCFourFive I'm building (actually, I'm having someone build it for me) a 2K C5 Vert. I think I sinking WAY too much money into it, but I've seen my builders past cars and ultimately it'll be worth it. If you had to estimate how much you've spent on this build, what would it be (not including the car)? I heard other people's similar build costs and I'm just trying to judge my "deal".
@07STi8U its a lot and get's expensive quick. The build has really stretched from 2005 till now. At the time C6 Z06's where still quite pricey. If I had to do it all again, I would start with a used C6 Z06 for $35,000 or so and just do cam, headers, seats, suspension, wheels, tyres and brakes.
My C5Z06 has about $45,000 to $50,000 in it excluding the original purchase in 2002. I would be lucky to be able to sell it for $25K now. ;)
2:50 and where did you get your ls7 and about how much did it cost? I want to sell 1 of my cars, get a c5 zo6 and throw a ls7 in there if its not to pricey
The ONLY thing this video is missing is the ginormous grin you must be sporting while driving that monster. Good work, bro! I will definitely look to you for advice when my Z06 finally gets here!
what do you think is the biggest i can do in a stock ls1 with kooks 1 7/8s headers, no cats, xpipe, and b&b bullets? i wanna do the biggest cam i can. texas speed has the option to do custom grind but i dont wanna push it
@DERANDUM normally folks charge about $350 for a cam, whether off the shelf or custom grind as the cam manufacturer will just pull a blank off the shelf and grind to what ever specs ar eon the cam card. So a "custom" grind should not cost more than a "catalogue" grind.
@TheVetteman86 possible shagged selector fork or blocker rings where the cause for a vry tight shifting, with the gear refusing to engage at high rpm, the only solutionw as the double cluthc and let the rpms drop a little more to allo wthe shoft to take place - hence the slow shifting. See my other videos for evidence of fast shifting when the tranny was better behaved.
That's awesome dude! Sorry about your two friends. I have an '85 vette that I am restoring right now but I hope that one day I'll be able to afford a c5 they are the best! Keep her clean and between the lines dude!
Sick ass car dude! God I wish I had the money it takes to get that new of a vette and do that kind of upgrades to it! How did you get those progress monitors on the screen? They seem too accurate to be just added in later for looks. And don't the grand sports have 2 stripes instead of three? I didn't know if you were just trying to be different or not.
@racekid691792 - my car is a 2001 C5 Z06that I bought in 2002 used - the mods where added over a 6 year period. - the data overlay is courtesy of a TraqMate data logger. The fender hashes are a tribute to 2 friends that where killed by a hit and run driver and a tribute to the US Soldiers who ave given their lives for our freedom.
Very Nice motor love the sound.. would love to get my camaro motor finished. then we could race and i could watch your ass end as i try to keep up. that car is fucking sick. Great job
Sweet ride brother and it sounds great. I've got a stock 2007 C6 that I'm doing some upgrades to. Any suggestions other than replacing the cam and exhaust system? I also noticed in your video you have one hell of a short shift. May I ask what shifter you have in yours?
Sweet vette bro! excellent exhaust note and beautiful car. Im currently camming as well as some other mods on a '08 Mustang Bullitt cant afford a vette but I love them as well as other cars. anyway, props on the Z06 man. very nice!
Hey man, sick ass Z! Just wondering where you got the wide rear fenders at? I want the xr1 exhaust. Right now I have headers, catless and x'd and stock exhaust. It sounds good. But not nearly loud enough. Vettes all the way bro. Would appreciate a answer on the fenders, thanks!
@ibanezkid07 - if you dont know the story, then WTF would you speculate? The car suffered an on track engine failure, documented on this channel on YouTube.
Thanks for the ride that was sweet! we cant get away with this anymore in Cali. the fuzz are all over the place and not to mention to many idiots here that get in your way.
I know you are a road racer but damn bro, yank those gears. lol, just giving you a hard time, great video and awesome car. beautiful and savagely fast, a dangerous combination.
hehe - yeah, it does have a little bit of bite, especially when those crappy GM ABS electronics go on the fritz.. it takes the traction control and active handling with it.
You have not lived until you have to drive home from the track on Kuhmo semi-slicks without ABS or TC and 600rwhp on tap..... and it starts to drizzle ;) hehe
Cam - single in block cam, push rod V8. And yes, the cam profile is the source of the engine timing events, the tune the reason it all works so well :)
dang that is sweet!! diggin the black rims even brings the silver out btw my g/f which is siting right next to me said she would feel cooler if my vette sounded like that lol what size is that cam if ya dnt mind
About 186mph in 5th at 7,000rpm. I am sure it will pull to about 195mph after a couple miles in 6th gear, but the stock gearing is just too tall to produce meaningful accelleration in 6th gear.
Love the sound of those lsx motors, goddamn. Sorry to hear about the tranny problems, but you're doing the best you can with it instead of babying it - which is great! Must be nice to have roads like that around you, to use the z06 what it's built for.
The car is plagued with the classic C5/C6 GM sticking clutch and the transmission, at 90,000+ miles is in need of a rebuild. (last reuilt at 60,000 miles)
2nd to 3rd shift at high rpm is like a brickwall, the selector forks or synchros or what ever just refuse to mesh at high RPM, I have to drop to a certain RPM level for the shift to take place.
This is the reality of a DIY high HP track car based on GM street parts. One day I will drop a really strong built RPM Transmission.

what do you do? i feel i have a decent job, no kids, and all i can afford is this stock 01 mustang GT and im still falling behind a bit. what am i doing wrong?!?!?!?!?!?!
Man... what a great car! I've always said that before I die, I want a hellride in a badass corvette! Stay safe tho, don't kill yourself in that rocket!
it sounds like he's got a roller cam in there cause he is seriously got some major lift. i know with roller cams you tend to give it more rpm's than normal and you have to ride the clutch more often when your trying to drive it normally.
have your heads ever been flow tested? you could plug the head flow numbers into DesktopDyno and find a cam grind that works well with this car. If your cam is closing the intake valve later than 30degreesABDC you definitely will benefit from some ignition retard. Just some tips. That motor has alot of potential.
The car is a bitch to shift into 2nd 3rd and sometimes 4th at high rpm at times - I have not bothered to get the transmission rebuild for many thousands of miles, so I psuedo-double clutch to reduce the tension on the internals to allow for a smotther shift as the rpms drop.
Its the easiest way to drive the car in the interum without finally getting work done on the transmission and clutch hydraulics.
Probably go with an RPM STage IV or V at some time in the future.
This car is AWESOME!!!!!! srry to ask this because youve probably heard it asked alot, but...what exhaust stuff do you have done to this car??? it sounds amazing and beastly and what cam do you have in it and whats all done to it and piping size? all of that...i love this car! haha thanks for your time ...
No problem. In this setup the car has a 427ci forged LS7, heavily ported heads, very radical .7xx cam, 103mm MAF, 100mm throttle body and 3" X-pipe, Borla XR resonator and 4.5" Borla XR straight tail pipes.
The current build ahs a slightly milder cam and stock C5 Z06 Titanium mufflers and electric cutouts.
Also added since this video is functional aero (full splitter and C5R wing) and big brakes.
The radar detector is not really meant o "get youout of a trap" - it will alert me to a radar signal a mile or so up the road. Works extremely well. Combine a radar detector with common sense and you are golden.
You mean the "stripes" on the left front fender? They are "hash marks", as first debuted on the 63 GS race cars.
The first black stripe and the slice of Stars and Stripes is in rememberence of the victims of 9/11 and the brave veterans who have given the ultimate sacrifice defending freedom and liberty in Iraq, and the last 2 black stripes are in rememberence for 2 motorcycle friends killed by a hit n run drive while they where riding their bicycles early one summer evening in 2003.
I added the first black hash with the strip of the Stars and Stripes - then moved the other 2 black stripes from my motorcycle later - so yeah the last 2 stripes are a little offset.
I need to make new video of the cars current build - it has fully functional front splitter with undertray and a 6ft wide carbon fibre C5R rear wing, C6Z06 brakes and light weight 2 piece brake rotors. I have plans for a TVS super charger to bump power to about 700rwhp and 750rwtq in the future.
It cost way more than I wanted to spend in the end. Lets just say that if I had saved all the money put into the car including purchase price since 2002, I could have bought a new C6 Z06 and had a H/C job done on it... but then I would have not enjoyed a kickass car for the last 7 years hehe.
MTI is sadly out of the tuning/hotrod game, my Z07 was the last one they did :(
yeah all these guys saying that he is a bad shifter, he is obviously not pushing it, if he were hitting this thing as hard as he could he would easily get a 4.2-4.4 0-60
pfff this thing goes in my top 3 best sounds in my life....

dude with a lopy cam does it stll easy.???
THACHACHA 2 years ago
it sounds like he's got a roller cam in there cause he is seriously got some major lift. i know with roller cams you tend to give it more rpm's than normal and you have to ride the clutch more often when your trying to drive it normally.
EIPtuningR32 2 years ago
mti r1 cam ftw.
irockoutlouder1 2 years ago
id rather have a ta.. but then again i never drove a vette
bigal778 2 years ago
have your heads ever been flow tested? you could plug the head flow numbers into DesktopDyno and find a cam grind that works well with this car. If your cam is closing the intake valve later than 30degreesABDC you definitely will benefit from some ignition retard. Just some tips. That motor has alot of potential.

why double clutch?
b501 2 years ago
The car is a bitch to shift into 2nd 3rd and sometimes 4th at high rpm at times - I have not bothered to get the transmission rebuild for many thousands of miles, so I psuedo-double clutch to reduce the tension on the internals to allow for a smotther shift as the rpms drop.
Its the easiest way to drive the car in the interum without finally getting work done on the transmission and clutch hydraulics.
Probably go with an RPM STage IV or V at some time in the future.

thts pretty sick
but a zr1 would pass tht up in quick second
straightoutacali707 2 years ago
Considering the ZR1 is supercharged and makes almost 100ftlb more torque at 4000rpm I would be rather dissapointed if it didnt.
My car is just an N/A 427ci, rather than a supercharged 378ci one ;)

RCFourFive 2 years ago
A C5R wing. Jeebus. After the trick work, you made sure the rear wheels were planted smack into the ground, eh?
Awesome job on the Vette, man.

How did you get the gauges on the bottom of the vid, is that from a datalogging software?
endlesspoints 2 years ago
Yes - the data is realtime gathered using a TraqMate datalogging system, and overlaid on the video using TrackVision.
RCFourFive 2 years ago
wow, your vette hauls ass!!!! souds great too!!
01ttstang 2 years ago
some cars have shitty trans, in my exp. so its made it very difficult to dbl. clutch w/o the car damn near stalling.
crogerspsayahoocom 2 years ago
sounds like your double clutching when you shift, that takes pure skill dude, nice!
crogerspsayahoocom 2 years ago
NICE CAR!!! What unit do you use for the spedometer / accelerometer to overlay over the video? Does it have GPS too?
P.S. by the time your radar detector (I'm assuming that's what that is) goes off, you'll be through their trap already ;-)
rens24 2 years ago
The data is captured using a GPS Datalogger.
The radar detector is not really meant o "get youout of a trap" - it will alert me to a radar signal a mile or so up the road. Works extremely well. Combine a radar detector with common sense and you are golden.

lol, I'd rather get hit by a Vette than a big ass truck too.
Your Vette looks and sounds badass but the stripes look kinda uneven?
spiderx1016 2 years ago
You mean the "stripes" on the left front fender? They are "hash marks", as first debuted on the 63 GS race cars.
The first black stripe and the slice of Stars and Stripes is in rememberence of the victims of 9/11 and the brave veterans who have given the ultimate sacrifice defending freedom and liberty in Iraq, and the last 2 black stripes are in rememberence for 2 motorcycle friends killed by a hit n run drive while they where riding their bicycles early one summer evening in 2003.
:)
RCFourFive 2 years ago
Rest in peace to your buddies and Salute to America :)
but I mean the 3rd stripe looks farther apart from the first 2 haha, Could be the video though.
What are you plans for this car if any?
spiderx1016 2 years ago
I added the first black hash with the strip of the Stars and Stripes - then moved the other 2 black stripes from my motorcycle later - so yeah the last 2 stripes are a little offset.
I need to make new video of the cars current build - it has fully functional front splitter with undertray and a 6ft wide carbon fibre C5R rear wing, C6Z06 brakes and light weight 2 piece brake rotors. I have plans for a TVS super charger to bump power to about 700rwhp and 750rwtq in the future.

Redgts6969 2 years ago
Say I have been following your cars progression for awhile now and was wondering approx what it cost you to drop a LS7 motor in a C5.
I have a 2003 ZO6.
Shoot me a line if you have a couple of minutes.
I know MTI does nice work
Thanks Bon
vette00009 2 years ago
It cost way more than I wanted to spend in the end. Lets just say that if I had saved all the money put into the car including purchase price since 2002, I could have bought a new C6 Z06 and had a H/C job done on it... but then I would have not enjoyed a kickass car for the last 7 years hehe.
MTI is sadly out of the tuning/hotrod game, my Z07 was the last one they did :(

yeah all these guys saying that he is a bad shifter, he is obviously not pushing it, if he were hitting this thing as hard as he could he would easily get a 4.2-4.4 0-60
