Not to be a dick but the ship was not sunk untell 2006. I was on this ship in the late 90s early 2000. this is a link to the true sinking of the USS. Belleau wood AKA (The Big Dog)
I was on the belleau wood from 96 to late 99. Air Dept. V-1. I was Fly one P.O. ahh yes...ah the belleau wood and sasebo. some memories. I wish there were more videos on this site about that boat. kudos to this one.
I was on the Bellaeu Wood in '99 a part of the 31st MEU, part of SOCEX, I remembered I was part of Ship's Platoon. I was among the first to arrive on the ship at Sasabo, Japan. We set sail for Okinawa to pick up the rest of the Battalion, and while doing so in the middle of a typhoon. Boy, those were the days lol.
What a bitch. I servedm on her from 1986 - 1990. That makes three former ships that are sleeping with the fishes. Am a plank owner on the Elliot DD-967 and Vincenness CG-49. Kinda have a complex now. I was a SM which also now does not exist. combined with QM's.
I was also on the Belleau-wood I reported to her in Jan 1990, went to the yards in Long Beach, then went to Sasebo for about a year and a half. I cant belive they sank her, she was in far better condition to the Tarawa. I was in OPS OI DIV
I served on the USS Belleau Wood from 1989-1992. DC3, R-Division, Firecracker Team . WestPac 89' was awesome. 2 Fleet Weeks and countless other memories and trips.
My Dad served on her (LHA-3) from 1997 to 2000 In Sasebo, Japan where we were stationed. During 2000, they did a command swap with the newer ship USS Essex LHD-2 . I miss that ship, I went on my first tiger cruise on her from Okinawa to Sasebo Japan. They Navy sank her in July of 2006 as a part of Operation RIMPAC.
I wonder why the Navy sank that ship. All of its sister ships remained in service for some time afterwards, even though they are just now beginning to be decommissioned.
Hi. It is AI and aircraft landable for FSX..For FS9 it is static but landable. There are lots of locations around the World it is placed Moving or static..Thankx

Why is there no video of the actual sinking? I'm surprised there isn't. Perhaps the sinking footage is classified for some reason?
I was on the ship a few different times and for three months total (westpac) in '93.
