I'm from Memphis and I've been watching Eric since he was 13 or 14. He is the real thing. There are video's of him jamming with Shawn Lane on YT and he's playing through Luther Dickinson's (N Miss All Stars/Black Crowes) on one of Shawn's Ibanez guitars and he brought down the house. He's an incredible talent. He's also a really good guy. He's made some mistakes, but he is on the right track and people better sit up and take notice...
Have to agree with bgoode. Seen him alot and sometimes it was bad. He needs to be a session player. He would smoke Brent Mason or any other guitar player out there. His lack of songwriting except with Eugene has pretty much killed his solo career. Again play session. I have seen him at least twenty times live in Memphis. Anyone in that area can tell you the stories and I have seen some not so good shows as well. It all depends on the "state of mind" he is in.
@shanemauldin Yep. That's what it's about.. the state of mind. A great guitarist can have a bad day... but after ya see the same stuff all of the time, it becomes way too predictable and his gear sounds like it's off the rack.. Randy Hanson does a great Jimi show... his gear is very special.. and he has a certain quality about him that brings it right home.
Everybody hears it a different way,The only difference here is that "gillybgoode" is the only one hearing it that way................Eric is one of the best live performers ever! I saw him a few times and was blown away when he made Eric Johnson look like he was an average player at the Experience Hendrix show in NYC a few years ago.He was the first guy on stage and we didn't even know who he was but you can bet on it that we never forgot.Keep it up Eric there is nobody like you.
@mikeytows Ever hear of Randy Hanson? He's mainly on the west coast and Europe.
I am not damning Mr Gales in no way.. We can't bring back jimi.. but Randy has basically morphed into Jimi and for the many ppl that have never seen Hendrix live, Randy will take you down that road. Check him out.
Generally, Eric's performance is pretty good, but saw him at BB Kings NYC last night and have seen him do better, His ripp off from ZZ Tops,"Lagrange" into his own funk jam lead you on a journey of a disppointing performance. His "Voodoo Chile" mission was weak and limp.
The rest of the band was great... as for Eric Gales.... stop ripping of Jimi, because there are better Hendrix impressionists out there. Alot better. Jimi was an original
but Gales in in limbo and has lost his direction.
@gillybgoode wow. I can't believe this. I have heard Eric Gales many times and he is definitely not a Jimi "impressionist". Eric Gales incorporates many styles into one, and is very original..the world needs people like Eric to keep music alive. keep doing your thing Eric. I'm a young guitarist myself and I hope that one day I can take my talents to a higher level as you did/still do
Thanks Eric and gang!!! good job-you got the right rthym and feel on this.It made my morning. From 1970 to 2011, Jimi and Buddy hand the baton to you dudes.
Mr.Gales you light up fire in Ice ;-) keep up the great work brother, blessings!
